New European Bauhaus Festival 2026

Well done to our ensaama Product Design students, Loic Ballesteros and Samuel Galmiche, whose trophy design, Endless Triangle, was selected among the top 10 finalists and showcased as a prototype at the New European Bauhaus Festival in Brussels 👏🇪🇺🇪🇺

As part of a design competition, the European Commission invited students across the EU to design the first official Trophy of the New European Bauhaus Prizes: a chance to turn creativity and innovation into a lasting symbol of sustainability, beauty, and inclusion. 

10 selected finalists presented their concepts at the Festival of the New European Bauhaus in Brussels (9–13 June 2026). The winning design, Aurora, was announced in Brussels on Friday 12 June and will later be produced for the NEB Prizes 2026 Award Ceremony in October.

A huge congratulations to all the participants and thank you to the European Commision for organising this inspiring event!

Experiencing Europe 🇪🇺

📊 Data Metropolis, a five-day intensive workshop, brought together 42 participants, including 6 MA Product Design students and 3 staff members from Ensaama.

🎯 The challenge? Representing the 15-minute city.

Through experimental data visualization and research, complex urban datasets were transformed into accessible narratives and interactive installations designed to foster city-engagement.

Blending educational practice with transdisciplinary European exchange, the event turned academic cooperation into a truly human and creative experience

🇬🇧 World Design Congress, London

The World Design Congress was hosted by the Design council at the Barbican center, followed by the WDO General Assembly at the Design museum.

Exploring the Design for Planet theme, the event showcased inspirational keynotes, stimulating discussions, dynamic workshops & hands-on activations on design, climate, sustainable AI, fashion, architecture & innovation.

Among the highlights, let us mention Norman Forster's Lessons from a Life in Design, Jane Goodall’s reminder of the importance of Mother Nature, and Thomas Heatherwick’s perspective on ‘Emotion as Function’.

The Ensaama Product Design and Spatial Design departments participated in the WantedDesign Schools showcase in New York from May 19 to 21, 2024, as part of the ICFF - International Contemporary Furniture Fair.

On this occasion, Pascale Serck, Head of International Relations, spoke about ‘The Role of Education in the Future of Design’ on a panel with Giulio Cappellini (designer), Anita Cooney, (Pratt Institute), Mariana Chavez, Riccardo Balbo (IED).

Trophée des Ambassadeurs d’Ile-de-France

Aristide Renault et Mélina Benhamou, étudiants de DSAA graphisme-transmédia, décrochent une médaille d’or du Trophée des ambassadeurs d'Île-de-France pour “Insula Gallia”, projet mené lors de leur semestre d’échange en Ecosse.

"Insula Gallia" se présente comme une édition dont l'objet est de faire découvrir l'Île-de-France à l'international, au travers d'une interprétation artistique.

Illustrations, photos, récits, etc, cet ouvrage recueille une diversité de travaux, anciens ou inédits, qui racontent la région d'un point de vue sensible.

Destiné aux étudiants partis en mobilité, le concours Trophée des Ambassadeurs vise à récompenser les étudiants qui participent au rayonnement international de la Région Île-de-France et de l’écosystème d’enseignement supérieur.

Connectivity and Creativity in times of Conflict

Ensaama took part in the international Cumulus Conference organised in Antwerp, Belgium, from April 12 to April 15, 2023.

HOMO FABER FELLOWSHIP

We are happy to take part in Homo Faber Fellowship, a new education initiative for craft graduates and master artisans, a programme developed by the Michelangelo Foundation.

The seven-month programme is designed for duos of master artisans and young talents to facilitate the transmission of skills and enable craft graduates to take the first steps towards a profession in the craft sector.

The Fellowship is developed by the Michelangelo Foundation in partnership with Jaeger-LeCoultre and local members of the Foundation’s international network together with the academic partner Essec Business School and the creative residency of Joana Vasconcelos.

On September 14, 2022, at the Elysée Palace, the President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron inaugurated the new table for the Cabinet Room, Medulla, designed in 2020 by four award-winning ensaama students in Product Design: Etienne Bordes, Misia Moreau, Lucille Poous and Julien Roos.

Described by the President as ‘France’s backbone’, the connected, fibre-reinforced concrete table took shape with the support of the Mobilier national and 11 companies all over the country. President Macron also underlined the importance of design, which projects a new vision of a reinvented France for 2030.

Medulla won first Prize ‘Mobilier national -Jeune Création’ for furniture ensemble in 2020. The competition included 22 projects, 162 students from 5 Parisian Colleges of Art and Design. It was organised by the Mobilier National, the institution in charge of the furniture of the French Republic's national heritage worldwide, in partnership with Campus des Métiers d'Art & Design - Manufacture des Gobelins under the aegis of Académie de Paris and Région Île-de-France.

The jury paid special attention to:

- originality of form;

- innovation of materials and experimental research in prototypes;

- ability to source the different materials;

- modular and robust structure, easy to transport and disassemble;

- various lighting and digital connections.

The table was designed by ensaama - Olivier de Serres Product Design students under the supervision of their Design mentors Richard Devinast, Jean-Michel Policar, and Christophe THÉLISSON.

Design In The Age Of Transitions

On 29 June 2022 Ensaama, represented by its Director Eric Chenal, participated in the conferences on the Dassault Systemes campus as part of the World Design Organization's design week. The spotlight during the day dedicated to ‘Design In The Age Of Transitions’ was on French design schools. On this occasion, the students in Dnmade3 Spatial Design presented their project "The Wood Cocoon", which highlights sustainable rehabilitation of student residences focusing on furniture and interior architecture. The project was conceived in collaboration with French Design by VIA and Codifab (a professional organization in the wood sector).
The presentation was given in English, under the supervision of the international relations department.
