❛ sounds like you're really solid rivals, to push each other to be better like that. ❜ the professor's own rival experiences are comparatively few, certainly in proportion to how old he is, but any trainer worth their salt knows the value of a rival who drives one to overcome their best time & time again, & who knows to learn in turn. the thought brings a nostalgic spark to his expression.

It sounds like one, at the very least, but Ree can’t tell with adults. Sometimes brave means reckless or stupid.
And usually, Ree can’t tell until they either start getting scolded or get told to keep doing their best.

as much as that fills kukui with second - hand pride ( a fondness he doesn't try all that much to conceal ) , he very carefully avoids saying outright the question on his mind : if ree's trying to be like the previous champion or simply like satoshi. because there definitely is a difference, even in satoshi himself ; in most champions, from what he's gathered.

furious scribbling in the bg aside this brings up another reason to rewatch pokeani coz i for the life of me cant remember how much of kukui's past exp w leagues i know from the anime n what ive just picked up thru osmosis & yes the answer matters to me a lot

They give a smile at that, though they still can’t quite meet Kukui’s eyes. It’s clear they’re lovingly teasing Satoshi, even when he’s not around to act all offended. Ree laughs a bit, going to scratch behind their neck this time, instead of their wrist.
”I’ll give it a thought. I think maybe having Strelli come battle me would be a really cool thing.” A pause, before Ree pushes, “Would it be bad if we did two exhibition matches?”
the tease gets a hearty laugh out of the chairman. ❛ have you seen the first exhibition match ?? blowing the whole place up was half the fun. ❜ it was a pain for the maintenance crew, but from the post - league - chatter he overheard he figures the complaints were more habit than true aggravation. the smiles throughout the stands & across the field were certainly worth every cent it cost.
ree's push receives an indulgent smile, but, unfortunately, here's where he has to pump the brakes. ❛ i'm likin' where your head's at, but let's not get bogged down by the twos, yeah ?? i'll ask around just to know if we can manage the logistics for that, but that might cut close. 'sides, you always wanna leave some room to grow — it'd give us somethin' to look forward to next year. & a whole year of a heads up should work to make sure strelitzia can definitely make it, yeah ?? ❜
