It’s a little late, and quiet on this side of the avenue. Looking up, some of the lights on the buildings are switched on, most are off. He knew that James’ laying low, but it doesn’t mean they’re not allowed to have some fun.

A different kind of fun, he thought to himself as he adjusted the bill of his baseball cap and whistled sharply. James should be able to recognize the sound of it. 

He checked the time on his mobile, and looks around. All clear. Leaning against the bricked wall, he waited for James.

        He had been stockpiling, having recently gone and gotten some food to keep up since they couldn’t exactly keep up on eating pizza, despite Clint’s claim to a pizza diet. While they kept moving around, this was the one central place where they could at least come back to if the others had gotten burned and notified.

        The whistle caught his attention, different than Clint’s but very similar. He grabbed the gun on the table just in case, keeping it directly at his side as he approached the window. Slowly, he peeked out and down on the street, not seeing anyone or anything. Until the faint glint of a metal arm caught his attention and he laughed to himself. “Son of a bitch.” He set the gun back down on a crate, grabbing his jacket and beanie before climbing out of the fire escape to join Bucky down on the street level where he casually strolled up to him and bumped their shoulders together.

Not who he was expecting to find, sitting behind Tony’s desk– but it wasn’t too surprising (those two followed each other everywhere with a puppyish devotion he found vaguely humorous)

“I was looking for my brother– why, is there a reason things wouldn’t be ‘okay’?”

        “Watch it, Rogers.” Lightly he flicked James on the ear before wiggling out of his grasp lean down and tug his shoes. Might as well gear up for a night in. Only other reason his butt is going to leave this couch is if James offered to get take out. Which Eli should bring up later, now that he thought about it.

        “Oh, thank god. I was starting to get a little antsy there and have Billy track down that unfortunate soul.But– seriously. What’s up?”

        “Man, why do you have to do that.” He pouted at him, his bottom lip jutting out while he rubbed the side of his ear. His hand fell to rest on the back of the couch, legs stretching out in front of him while he let his eyes fall closed with the feeling of being safe surrounding him.

“Right, of course.” He didn’t believe that for one second. But James was slowly accepting that he couldn’t know things. It might make it worse. 

“If I do make it back, I’m going to call him that. Just to see his reaction.”

“Of course I do. But I’ve been to dozens of worlds and none of them have been the right one.” There’s another shrug. “Fighting is the only thing I seem to be good at.”

“….Something happened.” He’s not as smart as Pym, but he is perceptive. And something definitely went on with the old team. “Credit goes where credit is due. He’s a true leader.”

        “I was simply curious, that’s all. I didn’t mean anything bad by it.” He simply left it at that, knowing full well he couldn’t say anything to truly ease his mind in any way. His arms folded themselves over his chest, leaning back against the wall with a firm expression.
