Dover Street Market, the high-fashion shopping destination based in London, has opened its doors in New York. Despite the fact that it's tucked away in Murray Hill (an area not known for its retail selection), it has drawn visitors from some of the biggest fashion brands in New York to seek design inspiration.

Picture a seven floor luxury department store, except, there are no true "departments", but rather curated selections of international designers, both established and emerging. With only a glass elevator as a means for traveling between floors, it's easy to notice the sculptures and displays tucked between clothing racks. 

Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo describes the store as having a "no-rule, beautiful chaos feeling ... in contrast to New York itself, I wanted to design it with extreme simplicity, unsophisticated, almost primitive, and with naïve artlessness".
