Eartha Kitt on the meaning of life.
LAUREN BACALL in THE BIG SLEEP (1946) dir. Howard Hawks
š reminder: put yourself first this month. and I mean really do it. š
invest in YOU this time around. that book youāve been meaning to read, that project youāve been waiting to start on. pouring more into self improvement and reflection⦠notice the patterns you respond to around you. evaluate your friendships, relationships, and what you pour into most.
do the things you love without anyoneās permission. bounce back with discipline, and donāt let the end of the year paralyze you. you still have time to be who you want to be, you just have to remember you already have what you need inside now š¤

do more of what brings you closer to your dream "you".
As the year comes closer to an end and you find yourself reflecting on your health goals you may or may not have hit this year, I just wanted to talk about how I myself made health a permanent feature of my lifestyle and not just something to see as a two week phase to dive into when I need a pick me up or have something important coming up.
I would say a big component is all about shifting your mindset from āI have to do thisā to āI get to do this ā”ā, especially regarding more taxing things like daily workouts or cooking healthy meals at home. When you stop treating health like a punishment or a quick fix, it becomes something that just naturally happens in your life instead of taking it over or needing to stress about it. A lifestyle isnāt built on perfection a few days here and there, itās built on little actions that you repeat until they start being integrated naturally. Think of it as building a rhythm instead of chasing a deadline (especially with fitness). You donāt need a two week shred program or 30 day ab challenge (not that those sorts of things have no use, I like them too and sometimes focusing intently for a defined amount of time is just what you needed), but to make these things a lifestyle it needs to be about the long haul. Someone who works out lightly for 20 minutes a day because thatās all they can manage without burnout is actually living a fitness focused lifestyle compared to someone who only strives for the big impressive routines from following a program perfectly and will forgo their workouts entirely for weeks (or months!) on end because they donāt feel like killing themself with a full throttle gym sesh for 30 days.
One of the biggest game-changers is changing the bar from āall or nothingā to āsomething is better than nothing, as long as Iām moving forward.ā Remember that a lifestyle is about the routines and habits you partake in day after day, year after year. If you are new to it, the all or nothing approach WILL crash and burn. Allowing imperfection alongside CONSISTENCY (!!!!) is whatās gonna get you there. You donāt need to overhaul your entire routine overnight. Just work on changing things here and there in ways that are manageable and build on to one another. Drink a little more water today, add one veggie to your plate, take a 10-minute walk. These little actions add up much faster than you think, and the best part is that they donāt drain your willpower. Youāll realize you can be consistent without burning out, which is the by far the most important aspect to making healthy habits stick.
And honestly, let it feel good. Celebrate the nights where you choose sleep over scrolling or a home-cooked meal over takeout. Health becomes a lifestyle when itās aligned with who you want to be, not who youāre trying to impress. Being a super disciplined fitness nut who is always on top of it all is very impressive no doubt, but quite frankly so is the person who has many days where they only give 30% or 60% but never falls off the wagon and has been consistently making healthy choices for years on end. When you treat your body with respect by moving it, nourishing it, getting proper rest, etcā¦.it shows. Before you know it, the things you once had to force yourself to do become the things that anchor your day and feel just as natural as brushing your teeth in the morning. Thatās when youāll know itās no longer a phase and now itās just part of who you are.

September. meringue clouds. black tea with orange blossoms, afternoons vibrating with poetry. cotton on bare skin. a soft breeze playing in the curtains. languid dreams of white lace. dark chocolate, tender-bitter. the last few drops of shimmering body oil. honeyed light, honeyed perfume. the afternoon of summer, languid-melancholic-sensual.
