High Voltage

Matthew blinked when his brain registered that he had been asked a question and flipped his book upwards a bit so the cover was visible. “Oh, I’m reading Good Omens. Um… why do you ask?”

“Alfred?” She offers the sprite a smile, moving so that she can hug him, the pair were very huggy, had been, since the day they met. “Thank you for the well wishes, we can get coffee, if you want. As long as you aren’t busy.”

The barista returned with their orders. “So! Do you wanna sit in here or someplace else?”

After wandering along the beach, Alfred found a cafe. “Aha!” He stepped inside, walking up to the counter. He glanced at the menu to study his options, and settled on a large coffee and a sandwich. He waited to place his order.

Giggling slightly, he scuttled over to stand behind the counter. “Alfred, right? Glad you came! Have you looked over the menu yet? I can get you whatever you’d like!”

Back to Feliciano. “I think I’ll have a large coffee, lots of creamer and sugar, and a donut! On second thought, make that two donuts,” he added. ”but if there’s anything that you’d recommend from the menu, I’m all for trying it!”

With that particular day being windy, he wondered if a storm would be close behind. Being caught up in his thoughts, Alfred hadn’t noticed the stranger approaching him until a book landed at his feet. That snapped him back to reality. “Oh! I’m all right, I was just daydreaming a little,” he admitted with a sheepish grin. He picked up the book and handed it back to her. While it had been a surprise, their encounter was also exciting. This made for a good opportunity to introduce himself to a Treowan! “I’m Alfred. I believe this is yours, ….?” 

The sprite set his empty plate and still-half-full mug on the coffee table, then leaned forward to pull Lara into another bear-hug and onto his lap. “After everything you’ve said today, I want to give you all of the hugs,” he admitted. “If that’s okay?” Alfred sat back for a moment to look at her.

Once Alfred had pulled her into his lap, her arms wrapped around him, and she nestled her face in the crock of his neck. “It is nice.” She admits as she snuggles more into him. “Like I said, I usually have to initiate contact, so to have someone that wants to cuddle me so badly, it’s very nice.” She pulls one of the blankets over so that she can wrap them both up in it. “Cozy..” 

The storm had calmed down considerably since they’d gone back indoors. No more thunder or lightning, which made him sad, but at the same time, he looked forward to the warmth of the sun, puddles all across the ground that he could splash in, and the possibility of rainbows. He turned to Lara. “How often do rainbows show up here in Wineberry Beams?”

When he asks about the rainbows, she thinks. Did they come here often? “To be honest, I’ve never really gone looking, we’re a pretty magical place to be, so there is a chance that they do come rather often.” She muses before one hand moves to push some of his hair back. “You want to see one?”

He nodded slowly, as not to bump Lara’s hand. Lara’s words had made him more excited to find a rainbow on Treowa. “Hell yeah! Where do you think would be the best place to look for rainbows?”

“Now that’s awesome.” Alfred enjoyed seeing stories from comics and the occasional books that he’d liked brought to the big screen. “I haven’t read Sandman, but I’ll bet Sandman would be pretty epic, too.”

“Are you feeling tired, too?” he asked, noting that her eyes had closed. “Can’t say I blame ya, today was a wild day!”

One she speaks, the gurgling can be heard from the kitchen, and she makes a noise of discontent. Mumbling, she speaks into his shoulder. “Do you want me to get up and grab that?”

The gurgling of the coffee maker woke him up, as if his instincts knew that the coffee was done. “I can get that for you,” he offered. Alfred stood up, readjusting the blanket, and walked into the kitchen to check on the coffeemaker. “Where do you keep the mugs?” he called, leaning through the doorway to look back into the living room.

“OH! Ah, in the cabinet, it’s the one on the right side of the stove, the one that is closer to the ground, because, as you know we’re short.” She gives him a sleepy smile. “Mm, you can take more of the cake if you want, all if it, really.”

Once Alfred had prepared his coffee, he grabbed himself another slice of cake and sat down next to Lara on the couch, scooting closer to her. “Mmm!” He smiled, eyes closed and head tilted to one side. “This is so good. You need to open a bakery, my dude.”

“I haven’t had a chance to read the news today– Anything interesting happening in the islands?” Feliciano had no qualms striking up a conversation with just about anyone, not even thinking twice about it. It was much more fun to gossip with a new acquaintance than to not meet anyone at all!

“Ah, well, since it’s a ocean town, we have a lot of seafood, though really we have a bit of everything. We’re especially busy in the morning, when we sell coffee and other kinds of breakfasty treats!” He sighed wistfully. “It makes me hungry just thinking about it all~”

“I’m Matthew, it’s nice to meet you Alfred–” he replied as he shook the hand with a grin. “What kinds of stories do you normally like? I know you are not big on reading but there are other things like movies and comics and things like that.”

“And comics, yes!” he added. His eyes were practically glowing, if there was one thing he absolutely loved to read, it was comic books. “Is there a comic adaption of Good Omens?”

“I haven’t had a chance to read the news today– Anything interesting happening in the islands?” Feliciano had no qualms striking up a conversation with just about anyone, not even thinking twice about it. It was much more fun to gossip with a new acquaintance than to not meet anyone at all!

“Oh, I just work in a cafe. It’s a cute little one by the ocean, but we get a lot of business sometimes! Plus, the food is tasty and the coffee is great, so it’s nice to work there. My family wanted me to be a fisherman, but everyone in Anuipuk seems to be a fisherman, so I decided not to.”
