Medical astrology is a branch of astrology focused on how astrology can be used to identify physical weaknesses and strengths, bodily deficiencies, and potential illnesses. While it isn’t used to diagnose illnesses or diseases (only medical doctors can do that), medical astrology can give insight into what we may potentially struggle with physically. Medical astrology should NOT be used in place of seeing a doctor or medical professional, and, as with basically everything in astrology, nothing in medical astrology is set in stone. Just because certain physical weaknesses are shown in your chart, it doesn’t mean you will suffer from them.

Many astrologers don’t believe in medical astrology, believing it’s too ancient and archaic in this era of modern medicine. Personally, I’m not completely sure how I feel about it (something about medical astrology makes me feel a little icky), but I’m learning more about it, and I’d like to discuss it a bit since it’s really fascinating!

The Zodiac Signs

Many people know that the zodiac signs are associated with different parts of the body, and these associations are used heavily in medical astrology. For those who don’t know what parts of the body the signs are associated with, here’s a little run through along with other bodily functions and occurrences associated with the signs.

ARIES: The head, the brain, the eyes and other parts of the face

TAURUS: The throat, the thyroid, the gums, the tonsils, the middle ear, the vocal cords, the esophagus

GEMINI: The lungs, the arms and shoulders, the nervous system, bodily processes that involve connectivity

CANCER: The breasts, the sinuses, the stomach, the uterus, the chest cavity, other “containers” or cavities of the body

LEO: The heart, the back, the spine (not including the spinal cord)

VIRGO: The intestines, the processes of the liver, the pancreas, bodily processes that involve discrimination or cleansing

LIBRA: The lower back and butt, the kidneys, the vasomotor system, bodily processes that involve balance or equilibrium

SCORPIO: The reproductive organs, the colon, the bladder, the rectum, bodily processes that involve elimination

SAGITTARIUS: The thighs, the hips, the liver itself

CAPRICORN: The bones (including teeth and nails - wait, are nails bones?), the knees, the hair

AQUARIUS: Blood circulation, the lower legs and ankles, the valves of the heart, rare diseases

PISCES: Feet, toes, lymphatic system, hard to cure diseases

The Planets

Also, the planets are associated with maladies and reactions of the body. In a way, you can compare the zodiac signs to anatomy and compare the planets to physiology. Again, I want to repeat that just because you have a certain planetary dominance, it doesn’t mean you will have the disorders or diseases associated with that planet. So please don’t worry.

SUN: Inflammation, fever, heart problems involving the muscles of the heart, energy problems

MOON: allergic reactions, female health problems, mucous formation, acute pain or ailment, altered body rhythm

MERCURY: speech disorders, memory problems, nervous system disease, hormonal problems

VENUS: benign growths, balance problems, blood sugar issues, poor circulation

MARS: infections, fever, burns, sudden illness, muscle problems, acidosis, a need for many surgeries

JUPITER: poor metabolism, liver problems

SATURN: chronic disease, atrophy, under activity, skin diseases, obstruction

URANUS: sudden illness, seizures, spasms, lack of coordination, heart palpitations, accidents caused by electricity

NEPTUNE: hidden diseases, addiction, misdiagnosis, drug sensitivity, coma, poisoning

PLUTO: massive infection, malformation, amputation

Medical astrologers use these associations with the planets and the signs to read into people’s charts (especially a person’s planetary aspects) and see where underdevelopment, weakness, or conflict lies.

The Elements

Medical astrologers also use the elements present in a person’s chart to make predictions or find patterns. A lack or an excess of a certain element can point towards other bodily issues.

Here are what the different elements are associated with.

FIRE: Heat and purification. A person with too much fire can get burned out too quickly. A person with too little may have problems fighting infection

EARTH: Support and stability. A person with too much earth can become too obsessed with the body or may suffer from a lack of moderation. A person with too little can make a person ignore the body and symptoms.

AIR: Oxidation and connectivity. Too much air can lead to being gassy or overly sensitive. A person with too little air can have problems with feeling faint or with a weak nervous system.

Hello! Have you been stuck when it comes to love? Do you ever struggle wondering what you want? Well, to know yourself well on the romantic side, here’s some things you could look at on your chart!

SIGN OF YOUR VENUS. Venus, the planet of beauty and romance. Probably the best place to look for when it comes to romance! Your Venus sign tells you what attracts you romantically, and how you would act in love! This is especially true for girls, since it is a feminine planet! What you want in a first date would be expressed by your Venus!

LOCATION OF YOUR VENUS. The house where your Venus is located will mix with the sign of your Venus! A lot of people can think their Venus is expressed as a certain sign, but when you put it into a different house, you could express your Venus in a different way, depending on who rules the house! For example, my Venus is in Aries, but it’s in the 7th House, so I also show Libra tendencies when I’m in love! Also, the location of your Venus shows where you’ll most likely meet your love interests. If that’s not useful, then I don’t know that is.

MARS. Whether you connect love and sex or not, Mars is very important, especially if you’re a guy. Mars shows how a guy will pursue you in love! It also rules how you will flirt with the person you like. And Mars also shows what you’re like in bed ;) The sign and house it’s in will tell you how your love interest could be passionate, and where they’re passionate.

PLUTO. The deep, intimate side of sex (if you know what I mean) is one of the things that Pluto gives insight to. Look at the sign of Pluto and what house it’s in to gain what you want in secret intimacy with your partner.

JUNO. Your Juno gives insight to what you want in a partner for the long run, and what your life partner could actually be like!

PSYCHE AND EROS. These are your “sex” asteroids. While Mars is kind of a little general, telling you about your energy, passion, your masculine side, and your anger, your Psyche and Eros signs will give you more insight into how your love interest could be in the bedroom! Best part? You don’t need an exact birth time, just their birthday! Once you find it, compare your Eros sign to your partner’s PSYCHE sign. Don’t pair your Eros to their Eros or vice versa!!

SYNASTRY. Synastry is compatibility, but on steroids. Synastry is basically comparing your chart to your partner’s chart and analyzing the aspects that are created! Synastry is a great way to know how two people will interact with each other in a relationship, and it’s great because you could see your lover’s reasons for doing certain things through synastry! Synastry is very focused on the two indviduals in the relationship. Aspects between are very important in synastry!!

COMPOSITE CHARTS. Unlike synastry, composite charts don’t focus on the two individuals, but more on the relationship itself. Composite charts are created by creating the midpoint of your placements your partner’s placements into a chart. The nature of your relationship when you two are together are mentioned here, and how people will think of your relationship will also be mentioned! While synastry is more “romance” based, you can do a composite chart with your friends! You can create a chart from more than two people, so might as well do your whole squad!!

THE 5TH HOUSE. The fifth house strictly rules dating and only dating. How you are when you’re looking for a casual romantic relationship would be mentioned here! Pay attention to the signs and planets in this house if you have any!

THE 7TH HOUSE. The seventh house strictly rules marriage and the long-term partnership in your life! Things like serious relationships, and marriage will be mentioned here! Pay attention to the signs and planets in this house if you have any!

THE DESCENDANT. The Descendant is the sign that rules the cusp of your 7th House. The Descendant gives insight to what you want in a partner!!

THE SUN-MOON MIDPOINT. While the Venus-Mars midpoint could give you a good idea for compatibility, I personally the sun-moon midpoint is better when it comes to compatibility. All you gotta do is look up your sun-moon midpoint on astro.com and find the sign! Whatever sign is your sun-moon midpoint, you’ll find comfort and feel attracted to anybody who has personal planets in your sun-moon midpoint, even if they’re not attracted to you!

VERTEX. The Vertex is known as the “secondary” Descendant and could give more insight to what you want in a partner. Just look up your vertex on astro.com, and you’ll find the sign!

NORTH AND SOUTH NODE. If you’ve ever felt that “deja vu” moment when you talk to a certain someone, maybe one of your planets is conjunct to their North and South Node! If you have a strong connection to someone in your South Node, they could be your soulmate from a past life! If you have a strong connection to someone in your North Node, this person will most definitely help you in the what you need to do in this lifetime!

ASPECTS TO ANYTHING I JUST SAID ABOVE THAT CAN MAKE ASPECTS. I’m talking about asteroids and planets! Venus, Mars, Pluto Juno, Eros, Psyche, ALL OF THEM. Describing the sign of a planet and where it is can say a lot, but aspects can open a WHOLE new world when it comes to describing what love could be like to you!! Just remember about orbs. The smaller the orb, the more significant!! I prefer to only read aspects that have a 0-1 orb for asteroids, and maybe 0-10 orb for personal planet aspects (example: Mercury to Venus), and only 0-7 for personal planets to outer planets (example: Venus-Uranus) I will mention that VENUS is probably the one planet you’d want to look at most!!

THE ELEMENTS. The elements are a great way to remember which signs work with each other, and can simplify compatibility so it fits better into your head. Remember, same element pairings work well, and same polarity (masculine or feminine) pairings also work well. HOWEVER, don’t let this oversimplification make you narrow-minded in astrology! It is simply a guide, and it’s not to be treated like it’s a law. It’s great for textbook compatibility, but it’s ultimately up to you to decide what you consider compatible or not.

In fact, it’s ultimately up to you to do whatever you want. If ANY of these things on the list rules against what you want in love, GO FOR IT ANYWAY. Astrology is ultimately supposed to guide, not to dictate what you do.

Aries Mars:

An Aries mars is very explosive and the smallest thing will set them on a rampage, destroying everything in their path. They can be very blunt and tell it how it is, regardless of if they hurt others’ feelings. After all, they need to know the truth! They are absolutely savage and rip apart anyone that decides to cross them. This often means bridges get burnt quickly and in a rapid bush fire of anger. Unfortunately for an Aries mars, they move on much faster than everyone else. So they may try to talk to someone hours after an argument to find that person has blocked them and wants nothing to do with them.

Taurus Mars:

A Taurus Mars is very hard to anger and they take a lot of pushing to finally react but when they do, it’s time to give up. It becomes like talking to a brick wall. They refuse to listen to anyone and will only do what they want which is frustrating to people around them. Their pride and stubbornness shines and blocks their ability to even consider doing anything but saying no, to everything. Their need to control themselves becomes very apparent in situations where they are distressed or under pressure.

Gemini Mars:

A Gemini Mars often shows anger through acting superior or disinterested rather than aggressive. They seem to believe they are better than those who are more argumentative. Their ability to outwit any opponent often means they win fights, but only because they become unresponsive and sarcastic rather than actually having conversations. They move on very quickly but in the back of their mind, they love to think they are now more intelligent because they won a fight and will use that to their advantage.

Cancer Mars:

A Cancer Mars is literally the most dramatic person you will ever meet. They are savage and go straight in for the sore point but as soon as you even slightly retaliate, they cry and act as though they have been horribly betrayed by their oldest friend and now they must live in anguish. They get defensive before they have even been accused which actually starts most of the arguments they are involved in. They seem to make every disagreement become a personal attack by everyone else onto them.

Leo Mars:

A Leo mars has this need to be the most important person in the room and when they’re not, they throw almighty tantrums. If someone does not pay enough attention to them, they become self-conscious and moody, especially towards that person. They won’t tell you why, though. You’re just left to wonder what you did to deserve the silent treatment. They work hard for attention and when it is not received, they are personally hurt. Also very stubborn, they have a really hard time letting things go.

Virgo Mars:

A Virgo mars generally isn’t aggressive but they rip you apart with their criticism that quite often becomes personal and nasty. Their anger is usually shown through complaining and cynicism. They are very prone to “just doing it themselves” rather than having to explain things to other people because they believe they are the only ones that can do anything the right way. Often, they will shut people down before they get a chance and are able to make people feel as though they are inferior which means they are avoided when anything doesn’t go to plan as those around them know they’ll be on a rampage.

Libra Mars:

A Libra mars wants drama, no matter where or who it’s coming from or involving. They are always the instigator when issues arise and love to light the fire and then run away to watch from afar. Then, when it’s all said and done, they decide to come out and mend the situation to make themselves look like heroes. Very passive aggressive to anyone that crosses them but rarely take action, instead they will talk behind peoples’ backs and spread rumors which solves nothing and in fact, makes things worse. 

Scorpio Mars:

A Scorpio Mars has an almost concerning amount of self-restraint which is even scarier than an explosive Mars sign as you can never tell what they’re thinking. They know how to not only cut deep, but leave scars for years on end. They have a very black and white outlook on life - it’s this or that. Pessimism is common and often alienates them from more happy-go-lucky people. They’re not bothered though, because anyone that sees the world in rose coloured glasses is an idiot, right? They’re able to destroy your self-worth without blinking an eye which means a lot of people tread on egg shells around them. 

Sagittarius Mars:

A Sagittarius Mars often starts fights that they can’t finish. They rarely look at the facts properly before diving in with their opinion and then get offended if you don’t agree. They are violent when they are irritated and literally will throw a chair at someone if they’re not doing what they want. They get bored super easily and will (literally) run away if things aren’t fast-paced enough to keep them interested. If you want someone you know will always be on your side, don’t ask them, their opinions and moods can change in a flash.

Capricorn Mars:

A Capricorn Mars believes they can do absolutely no wrong. They are big on betrayal and backstabbing, making it unfortunate for you if you cross them because you won’t hear about it from them, you’ll hear about it when there are rumors circling about you and you’re getting the silent treatment from 4 of your friends. They seem very unenthusiastic and placid but they are very convincing when they set their mind on something. They are very calm when angry which makes it more uncomfortable for everyone because they become distant and quiet when you have upset them and it is very hard to come back from that.

Aquarius Mars:

An Aquarius Mars is unbelievably clever but they often are bit by the “know-it-all” bug which makes them hard to converse with as they really don’t believe anyone can be on their level. They will fight back if they are forced to follow rules or requests they don’t agree with. They have a tendency to develop a god-complex and believe they are smarter, wittier and better than those around them. They become detached and disinterested when angry as if people are not worth their time which often leads people to dislike their blunt, entitled nature.

Pisces Mars:

So, I have a lot of these asks in my inbox right now, and it’s not really an ask meme, it’s an entire area of astrology! I figured it’d be easiest to just make a post on what areas and ways you may attract certain signs or placements.

The placements here are likely to draw in people of certain signs or planetary dominants. Usually, it will attract the Suns, Risings and dominants of these signs.
