I think people's attachment to character-driven stories over plot-driven stories is ultimately the reason so many OC stories are just lore, worldbuilding, and some cool character designs. These aren't agents of a narrative, they're fictional real people.
People don't treat characters as if they service the narrative anymore, they treat them as if they're AU and headcanon fodder, and just turn their favs into OCs so they can make them and their other OCs live in fantasy homes or whatever.
Actually while I'm still on the topic, it's interesting how people will act as if a thing happening solely to move the plot forward is somehow a bad thing, as if characters don't exist to move the plot forward and contribute to an overarching narrative??? "Yeah this scene only happened for the plot" buddy I think you'll find most major things happen to move things forward.
These characters aren't crafted as your friend, they're crafted as a message. The author wants to tell you something about their worldview through these characters, even if subconsciously. Characters don't just exist for cute pinterest outfits or mini angst comics about potential lore they have, they're part of a story!!! They exist to say something!!! And a character doing things to move the plot forward is because they are an agent of the plot!!! Not an independent person!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Goodness!

I know intersex people are still getting excluded in a lot of LGBTQIA+ spaces (let alone wider society) and I think it's crucial to show this group is included in the statement that we all deserve equal rights.

I miss when ads were a single click and then they’re gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesn’t even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.
I hate advertising. I hate that you can’t do anything without companies jumping down your throat with mostly bullshit ads. I hate that billboards exist. I hate that every company unanimously decided to make their ads longer and longer. I hate that ad blockers try to charge you money and there are in app purchases to remove ads. I hate that my attention has become commodified. I hate that there’s nothing I can do about it.

a feeling I do have and will stand by is "While I enjoyed their work overall I did have some gripes that I overlooked out of affection and whimsy, but now that my loyalty is gone and my affection tainted there is nothing holding me back from enumerating my many grievances, to which the revelations of the creator's shittiness may or may not provide a new and infuriating context."
