cassiobeeryβ:
There was something in the honesty that the other seemed to just exude naturally. That was something he could admire and rarely saw. If nothing else heβd envied that.Β βI doubt even the body snatchers would have been able to copy that mouth.β Cass quickly teased back and found himself attempting to mimic that very same energy. Even on his potions he couldnβt quite get it but it felt pretty damn good.
βTheyβre going for the most part.β Was the polite and only thing heβd say. Past that he wasnβt willing to get into much. It was simpler that way, even with friendly face. But perhaps things wouldnβt always be like. Heβd hoped not. Erik was calm and collected, very different from most the rest of the company he kept. Heβd be lying if he didnβt welcome the change of atmosphere.Β βDonβt think Iβm ever really going to get used to it but I think itβs good. Itβs a change.β Which he was in desperate need of. But those habits heβd groomed and fathered in the last few years were awful to bite back at.
Cass shifted around until he was comfortably able to look at his housemate. More to gauge what heβd been thinking, if anything at all.Β βIβd hold off on the charming part.β He spoke softly, holding his hand out and heβd curled his fingers back a few times, almost as if to will the otherβs flask from him. Though it was rude to just invite himself but then again it wasnβt exactly like he could share his own.Β βI wouldnβt want to ruin your perception just yet.β Cass smiled boldly and in return gave his fellow raven the same intended wink back.Β
βBesides itβs awful boring being written off on the good side.β
Erik burst out laughing at the other maleβs reply. His expression changed to something more serious as they discussed being back here. βGoing,β he spouted back, not pushing beyond the answer he was given. He knew the feeling and it wasnβt his business to ask more than that. It was curious coming from Cassio, but all of them had grown up and things were different now.Β
βGoing it is,β he remarked again before taking another slug from his flask as if that was all that needed to be said. The entire world was going on around them but for now, Erik was okay just existing here. βHave to admit, Iβm not sure Iβll ever get used to it either. But I needed a change,β he admitted, not going beyond that. βSomething different.βΒ
He took in the features of the other Ravenclaw as they sat on the dock, handsome face and light hair. His eyes flickered silently over Cassioβs moving hand and Erik took on a quizzical look but said nothing, just kept the questions in his head where they were. He held out his flask to the other male, but said nothing, leaving Cassio to indulge or not.Β
βNoted,β he said with a gleam in his eye, his stomach now burning with alcohol and making everything seem a whole lot more entertaining than anything else. βNo more charming Cassio. That seems fair,β he added, βAs long as I get to keep some perception of mystery, as well.βΒ
There was a lull of silence and Erik drank it in but felt himself becoming antsy, something that was far from uncommon for him. βHow do you think the water is?β he asked, leaving it in the air as a question for the other and a dare for himself. βAm I going to end up in the clinic with hypothermia if I jump in?β He didnβt expect an actual answer, but the water was inviting.Β
It was something stupid that he would have done as a child but being back at Hogwarts made him feel childlike at times and indulging in that seemed like the best idea heβd had in ages.
