Dante knew he wouldnât be eating for a while, so her suggestion went with just a little shake of his head. When she finally left, he felt like he could breathe a little better. He hated himself so violently for what he had done. There was no way he could bounce back from this, there was no way â he and Emma were through. She was probably just saying all this to make him feel better.
Jimmy: He glanced up as Emma walked through to the kitchen. âNo, they should be back in a few,â he replied with a little shrug. He got up from the chair and strolled to the kitchen, leaning against the doorframe. âHow is he?â
At first, Emma wanted to stay optimistic for the rest of the family. She put on a small smile when Jimmy walked toward her, knowing that while this was hard for her, it was harder for his family. Regardless, it was hard for her. âHeâs, um... well, he seems a little better, I guess. Better than when I got here.â She sighed, her face falling as she shrugged. âHonestly, I have no idea. I donât know whatâs good or whatâs bad, Iâm - Iâm in way over my head. Heâs not throwing up or acting like heâs, you know, out of his mind, but heâs still not acting like... him. You know?â Surely he knew what she was talking about. He was the one who had been through this before, and she was the one who seemed to just be getting in their way.Â
âI donât think he wanted me in there, so I didnât want to make things worse. He just seemed like he wanted to be alone,â she offered, wishing she had any more to say about the state he was in. She already felt like she was useless in the moment, actually being useless was worse. âI donât know. I know everything wonât be solved in one night, but how long did it take you guys to get him back on his feet the first time?â
