James Potter has been going after you for months and you were certainly not against it. You liked the boy just as much. However, you were still slightly scared of his advances, his feelings for Lily barely changed a couple of months ago. You didn’t know what caused the change, let alone why you have become the subject of his infatuation, he just stopped chasing the ginger girl from one day to another. You didn’t mind of course, it was certainly enchanting to see him pay so much attention to you, but it left you uncertain.

Some days he brought you flowers, some days he made them appear at random places around you. At times he sent you little love letters, telling you what a beautiful person you were, whilst other times he walked beside you, calling you adorable pet names and carrying your books and bag.

Even if you tried to resist him, you couldn’t. But whilst he did make sure to shower you with all his attention, he never actually asked you out on a date, he never tried to get close to you physically, his lack of physical contact left you questioning his intentions. You wanted to go out with him, you wanted to hold his hand, you wanted to feel his arms around you, but he never even attempted to ask you out and you couldn’t have said yes to a question you haven’t been asked which left you wondering where he was going with the amount of attention he showered you with.

It was subtle, but (Y/N) could tell he was struggling. The young Squad Leader watched out of the corner of her eye as the newly promoted Captain Levi looked over the reports in front of him, his eyes darting back and forth over the words and his brow almost imperceptibly furrowed. She watched him as he huffed a quiet breath and turned to another report instead, his eyes scanning the page furiously, as if he were searching for the key to some great revelation.

(Y/N) knew the truth. She had never told anyone, never planned to, but thanks to the significant amount of time she spent with the surly Captain, ordered by Erwin to help him manage his workload, (Y/N) could tell. Levi couldn’t read. He had never mentioned it to anyone, had never voiced his concerns with the mountains of paperwork on his desk. He only sat alone in the late hours of the night, trying to discreetly teach himself without anyone knowing that Humanity’s Strongest Soldier was illiterate.

(Y/N) lightly nibbled on the end of her pen as she watched him, pretending to be reading the document in front of her. She was worried about him. She barely knew him other than her brief interactions with him while they worked, but she could see the weight of the stress on his shoulders, see the quick flickers of anxiety flash in his eyes every time he saw the increasing workload on his desk. It also didn’t help that the other soldiers still treated him like shit due to his background. He was a Captain now, so nobody would outright insult him, especially if they wanted to keep all of their limbs, but she knew he knew about the rumors, the whispers, the sneers as he walked past.

Remus decided to stay at his parents cottage since his mother was quite sick.

The weather of London matched (Y/N)’s mood perfectly. The grey clouds covered the sky, no ounce of blue in sight. A cold, bitter wind nipped at exposed skin, as if a thousand papercuts sliced at the skin. Pulling her coat around her tighter, grumbling to herself, the streets of Diagon Alley were deserted. A few people running their errands to get it done quickly before the weather took another turn for the worst. The only shop that seemed to burst with some excitement, being the only brightness of the day, was Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes. (Y/N) pushed open the door, walking inside and gasping slightly as the warmth engulfed her. She shook slightly, taking in her surroundings, trying to find her favourite redheaded twins.

Pushing her way through the crowds of people, ducking every so often to avoid something flying over her head and apologising for bumping into people, (Y/N) quickly spotted George behind the counter, conveniently with Fred. She grinned, her heart leaping in her chest as she manoeuvred herself towards them, meeting Fred’s eye first. Her stomach did a mini flip, making her scold herself at the reaction. (Y/N) and Fred’s friendship had always danced along the line of being more than friends, but nothing was ever said between the two.
