Bohemian Rhapsody. We Will Rock You. Somebody To Love. All hit singles, and all the direct product of a band that was formed when an astrophysicist and a dentistry major found a new friend in an art college, who then went on to recruit a fourth member from the electronics school. Based on this alliance I propose the rift in society between Arts and STEM students was fabricated to keep us separated so as to dilute our true power - and fabricated by who, you may ask? The business major, the only member of society who reaps no reward from art and science and thus must weaken us so as to stay ahead. In this essay I will
Under the rotting linoleum, she finds old gods.
Hon had better be wearing her respirator old gods are NOT good for the lungs
The "elder millennial" "xennial" age group had such an interesting relationship to tech growing up. We just kept rolling w/ the changes that have been nonstop, but our earliest days were pre digitial.
Like I remember when the only way friends could contact me was the old shared house phone...probably the last generation in mainstream US life to say that. I remember the internet arriving and being INFINITELY more competent at using it than adults and fucking around on AIM and chat rooms. I remember pagers and adults having them but wasn't old enough for one until they were already obsolete.
I was taught how to formally handwrite a letter and address the envelope. Followed by mandatory keyboard typing classes and "computers" starting as a "specials" in elementary school.
The first cases of cyberbullying started in my generation. Adults had no idea how to address it.
We were at the front end of cell phones and texting becoming the norm, by my late in my HS/early college times. I remember owning totally separate pieces of tech for digital photography, playing music, watching video, playing video games, GPS/navigation, scientific calculator, an alarm clock, flashlight, etc. many replaced by smartphones. And I remember being an early smartphone adopter in my late 20s.
I remember the screeching hell of dial up and how fucking pumped we were when much better DSL/cable internet started. I remember sometimes having to print out papers for college to some professors and hand them in person and for others, having to submit them by email or online uploads instead. In my early career, I remember having to fax paperwork as much as I emailed it.
My home has physical media in VHS, DVD, and Blue ray formats. I remember when VHS was officially phased out as the standard format.
I had more cellphones with gimmicks across the years than I could count. The old Nokia brick. The tiny phone SNL mocked. The sidekick full keyboard that flipped out. The Blackberry that was my first time getting email on the go. The original Droid. Early iphones.
I'm Mark Zuckerberg's age...aka of the generation of women he was ranking hotness of in this pre-Facebook days and the target group he rolled out The Facebook for...I was on it when you had to be at an invited college.
Idk why I'm writing this. it's just interesting to me. I think part of why my generation is so adaptable to new tech is that we've always had to be...unlike my niece who is starting high school and has literally ONLY ever known tech on a phone or tablet. But also unlike my 87 aunt who didn't interact with tech much until she was in her 40s and older.
I'm annoyed I didn't talk about the music stuff of tape decks/walkman/mix tape to boombox/discman/mix CD to [NAPSTER ERA] to iPod/mp3/Zune to Pandora/Spotify, etc, etc, [and vinyl all along the way] thing
it’s actually not misogynistic to say astrology is bogus, and it is indeed way way more misogynistic to believe that things that can’t be proven rationally through science are More Female.

a dark day for scotland

We will erect another🫡
12 years on and still the best articulation ever made of how one should respond to useless critiques
look, if i catch sight of a mutual's unfortunately popular post in the wild dragging their flailing body behind it, i am obligated to smack that pony's ass and send them for another round of the pasture. i'm sorry, it's nothing personal, but it's in my contract
...yeah that's fair
the main trick to dancing at a goth club is:
1. Imagine you’re a powerful wizard
2. Imagine you’re channeling mana for one of your strongest spells
3. you can also pretend you’re a deep sea predator pretending to be aquatic plant life drifting in the currents to attract prey
Kids today need to learn how to pull the evil taffy.
4. Brush away the spiderwebs in the vast and mysterious crypt you're exploring
Languages tend to peak at their word for butterfly. Never seen 2 that are the same, either. Papillon. Mariposa. Borboleta. Fluture. Vlinder. Schmetterling. Pillangó. Babochka. Farfalla. Sommerfugl. Perhonen. Farasha. Titali. Chōchō. Nabi. Húdié. Buom buom. Great job guys, i really mean it.
Joy and whimsy detected! This post is joyful and whimsical 🦋

the thing about fiber art that nobody tells you about is that every single kind of fiber art is a gateway drug to other kinds of fiber art.
#that's not true every fiber artist will in fact tell you this via @longsightmyth
looking. at you
these guys haven't seen goncharov
Amazing that we call him the cookie clicker guy and not the "this website's hate mail game is insane" guy because one of those things had a much bigger impact on Tumblr culture than the other
#I think it's nice that the thing he'a known for is something he's put a lot of work into and was passionate about#as opposed to some funny posts he made in a few minutes#would you rather be known as large for your funny posts or your books if given the choice?
I'm already known for my funny posts and not my books. People express surprise that I'm a writer constantly.
#wait what#Derin I didn't know you were funny

woman yelling at cat meme but make it ancient greek red figure pottery
From ancient to abstract, this one sure got around.
Japanese one made no sense to me until I finally saw the “sale sale/sasa lele” version. セール セール。 But then it’s a meme so it has to be misspelled? 🤷♂️
tHERE ARE MEMES IN THOSE HIEROGLYPHICS
Ohhhhhhh…. Chinese and greek are my favourite, but there is more!
I took my little brother (autistic, mostly non verbal) out and he was using his voice keyboard to tell me something, and this little boy (maybe 4 or 5?) heard him and asked me "Is he a robot??" I tried to explain to him that no, he isn't a robot, he just communicates differently, but my darling brother was in the background max volume "I am robot I am robot I am robot I am robot"
My little brother insisted if I was going to post about him, he wanted a cut of the "profits". When I explained to him that Tumblr isn't monetized, and is pretty pointless, he and my older brother pointed out that he'd still be bringing me "fame and notoriety" if the post got "big". So we agreed, if the post hit 10k notes, which seemed extremely farfetched and silly at the time, I'd take my little brother out for sushi (his favorite food) and let him eat as much as he wants.
I guess God wanted the little robot to enjoy some sushi 🍣 🥲
