storytellerv:
Olivia could feel the palms of her hands start to sweat from the anticipation of getting to hear Charlie’s voice. God how she had missed his voice, it hadn’t spoken yet and she was already a wreck. But the sound of the young girl’s voice calling him daddy brought her heart to a halt before sinking down into the pit of her stomach. He’s a father. He’s made a life for himself. Olivia thought to herself the tip of her tongue swiping over her lower lip as she let it sink in that her fantasy of her and her soulmate getting a second chance was just that. A fantasy. She was delusional to think that he hadn’t found someone else that could love him as much as she did. She didn’t deserve a second chance with Charlie after the hell she had put him through with marrying Ethan. It was a crazy idea to think he had been waiting for her still after all this time. Her gaze flickering towards the direction of where his daughter stood. She was perfect. Olivia had to admit and it just made her heart ache more knowing that the girl’s mother was probably just the same. Perfect.
She couldn’t help but smile to herself at the thought of Charlie being the hands on kind of dad. Arts and crafts projects. He probably had a wonderful life and a strong bond with his daughter. And there it was, his familiar voice lingering in her ear as she gave a small nod and started bagging his items into paper bags. She didn’t know why she was avoiding eye contact, he was the sole reason for her being here again and she had to take the risk in talking to him. She had to. Olivia lifted her gaze up to meet his finally, amazed at how little he had changed since the last time he had seen him. Still the same handsome man she had fallen for all those years ago just a little more mature around the eyes she thought. Her lips pulling into a soft smile as she got a better look at his daughter now that she sat on his shoulders. “That’s one pretty girl you got there, Charlie. You don’t look so bad yourself.” She said, slipping a few extra unused paper bags into one of the used bags. “A little extra bags for your puppets.” She added, scanning the last of his items as she asked a question. “How’s your day going?”
Charlie was memorized by the sight of Olivia, wondering how she ended up working at the grocery store. When she finally spoke to him, he found himself stumbling over words. “This.. is Rosie.” He referenced to his daughter, pausing for a moment, trying to gather his thoughts. “Are you back in town?-- Well, obviously you are... here you are... um-- I’m good, I’m good-- still living on the farm. Just me, dad, and this little bugger.” Charlie chuckled, feeling Rosie peering over his shoulder at the blonde.
“You’re Olivia.” Rosie spoke, recognizing the blonde from the pictures in Charlie’s room and old yearbook. “Daddy talks about you sometimes!” She smiled, waving at Olivia as she continued to occupy herself with Charlie’s brown locks. Charlie chewed at his cheek, watching as the objects were scanned and placed into the cart. “Did you and your husband move back here?”
storytellerv:
Three months.
Three months and Olivia was immensely regretting her choice of returning back home to a place that had obviously moved on without her. Nobody seemed to remember her and it really shouldn’t surprise her that her glory days in high school were just that high school days. Sure she had married Ethan Monroe, son of the wealthiest man in their town, but even that title wasn’t enough to keep her relevant since they had moved to New York City and never looked back as they embarked on their new life together. The move happened due to Ethan’s role in the family business needing him to be the face of their new finance firm. The long hours and constant bi-costal business trips the wedge that kept her world and Ethan’s apart for the entirety of their seven year marriage. The pristine Upper East Side apartment Olivia resided in was probably the loneliest place anyone could imagine but it was her home now whether she liked it or not. The only silver lining within her loneliness was that she got to experience the world of dance as she wanted. Her career stable enough that she participated in a variety of shows more than she ever pictured herself being in. But an ankle injury two years ago ended her short lived dance career instantly making her having to rethink her life and own the trophy wife role Ethan needed her to be to her disliking.
Her marriage to Ethan was anything but glamorous and perfect, she knew that it was never going to be the fairy tale kind of love that she knew she could only have with one person. The past year things had worsen with Ethan to the point that she’d had already started the process to end their marriage but before she could even bring it up Ethan met his end out of the blue. Olivia was finally free as awful as it sounded to say out loud but she hadn’t felt this way in years and to have this freedom again was something she knew she had to handle carefully. This was her second chance and she really wasn’t going to let anyone get in the way of what she wanted. Her freedom came with a price though, she didn’t get the luxury of staying long in her New York apartment once the funeral service for Ethan had passed to think things over on what was going to happen next. She had three days to vacate the property and return anything that wasn’t gifted to her. Ethan had pretty much left nothing to her and his family was no longer interested in having anything to do with her since they had no children together. Olivia was practically useless to them.
Her mother had offered her a place back at her childhood home but she knew if she accepted her help she would once again get tangled up in her mother’s web of control and she was too old and too tired to fall for it again. So here she was working shifts at a grocery store in the mornings and waitressing at a cafe at night. Occasionally performing at the weekly cabaret events the cafe had every Saturday night, singing being the only artistic outlet she had left to offer her sanity when she wasn’t working up the courage to find Charlie again.
She had seen him here and there when clocking out from her shifts at the grocery store, surprised that he hadn’t left this town like she imagined he would have by now but it warmed her heart to know that he was still here after all these years. Olivia hadn’t been able to find out much about Charlie the past three months that she had been back in town and she often wondered if he had caught wind of her return yet. But she ultimately hoped that she didn’t have to find out that she had really lost any chance with him.
————–
Her tired hazel eyes had drifted over to the time displayed on her register’s screen. Fifteen more minutes and she could go home and sleep, last night had exhausted her having to cover a shift at the cafe that seemed never ending. God, she couldn’t wait to meet her bed soon. Usually she would converse with the customers that chose her check stand but today was one of the rare occasions that she kept the small talk short, barely making eye contact as she scanned items and bagged them.
Her attention drawn to her co-worker asking for a produce code that she couldn’t remember but knew Olivia would know. The blonde reciting the code effortlessly before turning back to face the customer that was now in front of her. “Sorry about that, paper or plastic?” She asked eyes widening a bit when it finally registered that Charlie was standing right in front of her. Her mouth going dry as she quickly turned her attention to grab the loaf of bread off the conveyor belt. The blonde too afraid to look up at him again, instant regret of moving here swelling in the pit of her stomach. @embalnced
Charlie moved into line at the grocery store, smiling down at Rosie, who was occupied with her new sugary cereal to pay attention to the line moving along. The little four year old was always getting into trouble, being just as adventurous and mischievous as her father. “Put it back.” Charlie scolded softly, seeing Rosie stick a candy bar into her pocket when she thought no one was looking. When he went to start putting objects on the conveyor belt, it only dawned on him that he was staring right into the eyes of an all too familiar face. The one who got away, his first love, the only girl to ever hold his heart until Rosie came along.
“Daddy! Get paper so we can make puppets!” Rosie interrupted his thoughts, simply staring at Olivia as she pretended to not know who he was. Charlie looked down at the little green eyed girl, picking her up and placing her on his shoulders. “Uh, paper...” He muttered, feeling his heart sink down into his stomach, wondering what had happened to Olivia. Charlie felt bad, unable to stop staring at the blonde, taking in every inch of her gorgeous face.

The smile Leah though she was holding in quite nicely found itself a home on her face, retiring there as she lost the battle against his little movements. Every crack exposed at once with things she found so endearing in him that would’ve kept her away from anyone else. Putty in his hand and unable to avoid it. It didn’t stop her wishing she wasn’t, because moments like this were almost too much. An audible inhale giving her away as his lips pressed against her neck. Unsure if she could even pretend, but she tried for a fleeting moment. “Work was long and hard,” She laced with obvious innuendo, “There was– No, nope.” Playfully, making no attempt to actually move away, Leah shook her head. “You’re the worst, Hamad. This needs to stop right now unless you’re aiming for this pool table seeing something other than a game. Dude, haven’t even offered me a drink and my legs are already trembling, it’s just cruel.”
Amiri rolled his eyes when Leah refused to play the game, smirking nonetheless as his lips hovered at her neck. “Don’t make empty threats.” He teased, pulling back from the blonde and getting off the pool table, now standing a decent foot taller than her. “What do you want for a drink? I’ll go buy it.” Amiri offered, thumbing through his wallet for some cash. “Give you a minute for your legs to recover.” He winked, wandering off towards the bar.
wavinthruawindow:
Amiri’s flirtatious nature never got old to Leah, it drew her in and twisted her around his finger. “How could they be checking me out when they were looking at you?” She flipped the compliment back to him. His were the only opinions she’d truly trusted for a long time, but self deprecating jabs at herself had been a part of her attitude for a long time. She could laugh at it just before he set her straight on how he saw her. “You’re lucky that you’re just good-looking enough for nice to look good on you,” She laughed quietly between them. Buzzed and blushing, Leah fought through the hesitation and sarcastic mood she was in to take another kiss in a room full of strangers. Not letting that fear of open affection she had been trying to balance stop her from tasting the lips she’d been thinking about all day. His peck hadn’t cut it.
“You’re insane, no one was checking out this mug.” Amiri teased, feeling Leah’s hands continue to hold him tightly. When she kissed him again, he was a bit surprised, though welcomed the affection. Amiri pulled back slightly, turning Leah around so her back was pressed into his chest. “Who said I want to be nice?” Amiri whispered, leaning to press his lips at her neck, his movements subtle as he displayed little bits of affection without overwhelming Leah in public. “Tell me how work was... I love listening to you pretend to not be turned on.”

wavinthruawindow:
It was too perfect for Leah not to spare a mocking eye-roll as he pulled her in, allowing herself to press the slightest weight against his leaning body. “That’s what I just–” She tried to interject in banter, but Amiri’s soft voice by her ear seemed to completely wipe any thought that was forming from her mind. A smile barely tugging at her lips while she tried to force herself not to wonder about his whispering. Hand resting against his chest as she pulled back to peer at him, closer to her eye level than usual thanks to his perch on the green felted table. Leah made a useless glance over her shoulder to confirm the stranger had left, unable to spot her or really spare another thought to her. Her head angled but towards him with the same almost smile lingering on her face while she let the sarcasm run free. “Oh, I am so sorry. My bad. You, like, you know I’m more into brunettes, right?” Leahs hands rested on the back of his neck, finger tracing the hairline gently and lips pursed in feigned thought while she looked over his face. “You getting bored with my late ass, huh? Least you could do is pick someone that doesn’t make me look like a foot.”
Amiri grinned as Leah pressed at his chest, creating the distance between them. “I like blondes.” He mused, his fingers coming up to gently play with a strand of Leah’s blonde hair. Amiri leaned in close as hands wrapped at his neck, lips hovering over Leah’s ever so slightly. “There’s not a single woman who makes you look like a foot... if anything, you’re the hottest one in this bar... did you not see literally everyone check you out when you walked in?” Amiri questioned, steal a small peck from her lips. “I’m pretty lucky.”
wavinthruawindow:
Half an hour to change out of her work clothes had turned into much longer after being offered to split a couple joints in the back alley with the other person on shift. Leah was always late regardless if there was a reason, but particularly when things like that came up. It wasn’t until she pulled her phone out to show her co-worker a video that she realised the time. She arrived just as her phone buzzed in her bag, hands too comfortable in the pockets of her jeans to read it while she looked around for Amiri. He was hard to miss and usually Leah could follow the eyes of other girls, or guys, gazes to find him. “Making friends?” She teased on approach, ever-so-slightly bloodshot eyes on the stranger making eyes at him. First thought on how much nicer the other looked brushed away when she picked up on the disinterest on Amiri’s face. “I’m so fuckin’ late, I know. Please don’t be mad,” Leah offered as an apology, wedging her way unsteadily between him and the other while peering up expectantly.
Amiri’s eyes fell on the door when he heard it open, feeling an undeniable pull towards the blonde as she walked inside the bar. It was amazing how everyone else’s eyes either were on him or her, but their eyes were on each other. Amiri was the attractive man that women lusted over at the bar, while Leah always attracted the wandering eyes of men and women. “I’m a friendly person.” He mused when she spoke, smiling at the other woman as Leah managed to wiggle her way in between them. “Yeah, you are late.” Amiri shrugged, his hands wrapping at her waist, pulling her closer to him as he leaned again the pool table. “You can make up for it later.” He whispered at her ear, placing a light kiss at the skin below it, his eyes locking with other woman who was still here. She evidently took the hint and walked away, leaving the two alone. “You scared her away... maybe I was trying to find us a threesome partner?” Amiri teased, pulling back from the embrace and meeting her gaze.
@wavinthruawindow
Amiri leaned against the pool table of the bar, talking some girl who’d struck up a conversation with him about different type of beers. “Yeah, I’m not very much into IPAs...” He nodded, glancing over his shoulder, looking for a particular blonde. Leah was supposed to join him almost an hour ago after she finished up at work, yet she wasn’t here. Amiri glanced back over at the girl, who asked if he wanted another drink. He declined, busying himself on his phone as he texted Leah, asking if she was on her way.

As he turned to her in full, Sara’s hazel greens instantly snapped to the cast wrapped around his forearm in surprise and disgust. Mostly because she immediately knew what it meant; he’d been hurt and hadn’t told her, and now he was acting like it didn’t even matter. Not like it was her prerogative to know, but immediately Sara was mad she hadn’t been informed, a shimmer of worry vibrating down her spine as she wanted to demand what had happened next.
Looking to people next to them who were staring, (maybe they were his friends, she didn’t know), she glared. “Go away this isn’t a free show.” She snapped quickly before crossing her arms, turning her narrowed gaze back to Baxter. Quickly, she did a whole scan, looking for other clues of what might have happened. “Busy? Baciami il culo.” She hissed. “I’ve called you like a hundred times. If you were over the whole thing you could have just said it in a text.” She realized quickly that her expression might have read pouty, despite her trying to keep her cool. She didn’t like being dumped, especially with no warning.
Baxter kept his hands by his sides, allowing Sara to have her meltdown, nodding for the girls who’d been checking out his cast and flirting with him to leave. As the girls flocked away, it only left him and the fiery brunette, who looked like she was ready to bite his head off. But instead of fearing for his life, a small smirk played on Baxter’s lips. “I thought you could have any guy you wanted? And be constantly entertained by the rich and famous?” He scratched at his chin with his good hand as he pretended to think. “It seems like you... missed me?” Baxter whispered the last word in fake shock, always knowing that Sara obviously wanted him.
“If you really wanted to see me, you could have found a way... unless you’re just proving the point that you a. don’t listen to me when I tell you things and b. don’t care enough to ask anything about me. Face it, Sara... you don’t know anything about me because I don’t matter to you... but now that I wasn’t up your ass, you’re looking for me? Some asshole broke my arm and you’re salty that I didn’t fuck you in like three weeks? I’m sure you’ve had other men filling those needs.” Baxter wasn’t yelling or using a harsh tone, though his words cut with honesty. He didn’t tell Sara much about himself because she never bothered to ask. She didn’t care about anyone but herself.
Baxter looked down at his cast for a moment, thinking about the pain that rocked him to his core when the bullet entered into his forearm. It gave him shivers, getting out of his mind for a moment as his gaze fell back on Sara. “I’m not done with you, not by a long shot... but don’t be coming over here, hot on heels, getting mad at me for not acting like a boyfriend and giving you attention when you don’t give two fucks about me. We both know I’m not one of those fuck toys you boss around.” His voice was low as his good hand reached forward, gently grabbing at the material of her soaking wet dress, pulling her a bit closer to her, standing a whole head taller than the brunette.
electricinndigo:
+ @embalnced .
If there was anything Sara definitely couldn’t live without, it was attention and lately, the only attention she’d really been seeking was that of someone who seemed to be otherwise ignoring her. In a way, part of her could understand why. She worked herself raw sometimes to paint herself as the ultimate tease and usually, it worked until it didn’t. Sometimes, it had boys and men alike crawling back to her at every hot and cold mood switch and then sometimes, it had them screening her calls and dumping her via Snapchat. But then there was Baxter and he was different, he had been from the very beginning and it took all of Sara’s pride to pretend like she knew how to handle it.
In her mind, it was hard to say what they were. When he was around, she just wanted to tell him not to fall in love with her and to give her space —– but when he gave her space, all Sara wanted was for him to crack open her window and crawl into her bed or blow up her phone until her message box was full. She was hard to be with, she knew that, but only as hard as any girl with daddy issues. She figured it was part of why he liked her sometimes, the challenge and the chase. There was something secretively mysterious and exciting about their affairs, about the way they kept each other’s lives so separate that when it came down to it, Sara slowly had begun to realize just how much she didn’t know about Baxter. About who he was when he wasn’t around her, where he lived or what he did in his spare time. In fact, selfishly, she’d never bothered to ask. The first weekend she hadn’t heard from him, she’d barely batted an eyelid. But after the third, Sara started to get needy and angry when he didn’t reply to her messages. No posts on Instagram, no new Snapchats… It was as if the line between them had just gone dead and beyond that, she had no way to contact him. It was like he’d never existed at all.
Until one Saturday night, a rich friend of hers was celebrating a birthday in their grand home with partying hard into the middle of the summer break. The air was sticky and so it wasn’t long before people had thrown themselves into the pool, dousing each other in beer and slinking down to underwear while music penetrated the entire atmosphere. Sara was having fun, but only of the mediocre kind, because she couldn’t help but feel distracted. What if something had happened to Baxter? It wasn’t in her nature to worry about things like that, but she wasn’t entirely heartless. Her arms were laced over some old school friend’s shoulders, his hands ranging between her hip and a red cup while she tried to forget that he was kind of annoying and mostly really stupid. But he was a solid eight on a bad day, so while her eyes scanned the party as if she was bored, Sara tried to appear at least a sliver interested in whatever grind technique he was trying to pull off. All up until her eyes found a familiar figure hanging back from the poolside, a gaggle of girls all “oohing” and looking at something he was holding. Whatever it was, Sara couldn’t really see, but she would know Baxter’s profile anywhere.
“Ew, okay, get off.” She snatched her hands back from the friend suddenly, tucking them to her front as she pivoted her shoulders towards Baxter across the way. If looks could be murderous, then Sara’s gaze was something out of Twin Peaks. Smoothing down her slinky little black number and pushing hair back from her shoulders, Sara then strode right on up to him, caring little for the girls that glared at her when they were bumped out of the way. Italian heat pulsing in her veins, Sara pushed at his shoulder hard with a feirce demand. “Where have you been?”
Baxter had been keeping a low profile of lately, purging himself of social media and not trying to draw any attention to himself. After a major disaster during a routine shipment pick up, Baxter landed himself with a bullet in his forearm during the fight. He was going to be okay, but it did break through his bone, thus fracturing it and landing him in a clunky cast. In retrospect, Baxter knew that the only person who cared about him deeply enough was his mother. She was dying from cancer and Baxter had a whole private hospital set up in the small, but gorgeous house he’d bought them. A majority of his money and time went into taking care of his mother, but now that he was the one in trouble, his mother still managed to take care of him a little.
Sara had crossed his mind a few times, but he knew to keep his distance based of the situation. But also, Baxter felt like she didn’t care because surely if she needed to find him, she could find a way. So, as weeks passed, his arm continued to heal as he tried to keep a safe distance from the second woman in his life that he cared too much for, knowing it was for the best.
Baxter should have expected to see Sara when he went to the pool party, but she really hadn’t crossed his mind because it didn’t seem like her scene. When he and his boys arrive, girls flocked to the handsome, mysterious rebel, wanting to touch his cast or another hard object on his body. Baxter was enjoying himself, always loving his ego stroked by a group of girls... until they all flocked away like a storm was coming in hot.
He felt the shove on his shoulder, sensing Sara’s electric vibe before she even had touched him. Baxter turned towards the brunette, his cast hanging by his side. “I’ve been busy.” He chuckled, used to seeing Sara so worked up and dramatic. “Its not like you’ve been looking for me.” Baxter lied, knowing that she’d been blowing up his phone but ignoring her was supposed to be the best thing. He obviously loved Sara, very much... and she was incapable of that emotion.
