It seems that our Country is a favorable environment for the development of the informatic cloud. It has been proved by an international study by Business Software Alliance, an organization which includes the main protagonists of the hitech worldwide scene. The survey, named Cloud Scorecard, at its first edition, focuses on three fundamental points to obtain a good penetration of the cloud computing and excellent results from it: security, interoperability and free commerce. Italy, third in Europe and sixth in the world, preceded by Germany and Japan, offers ever more advantages and opportunities to be “hit” by the informatic cloud not only to public administrations, but also to private companies. It is a rich soil on which we can still work a lot, especially to improve the accessibility of the broadband and the safeguard of data and contents. The research was focused particularly on this matter, which Italy distinguished itself for.

Cloud computing: Italia al 6° posto nella classifica mondiale

Il nostro Paese pare sia un ambiente favorevole allo sviluppo della famosa nuvola informatica. A rivelarlo uno studio internazionale della Business Software Alliance, un'organizzazione che riunisce i principali protagonisti mondiali della scena hitech. La ricerca, denominata Cloud Scorecard, alla sua prima edizione, si focalizza su tre punti fondamentali per ottenere una buona penetrazione del cloud computing e ottimi risultati da esso: sicurezza, interoperabilità e libero commercio. L'Italia, terza in Europa e sesta nel Mondo, preceduta da Germania e Giappone, in testa, offre non solo alle pubbliche amministrazioni, ma anche ad aziende private, sempre più vantaggi e opportunità per essere “investite” dalla nuvola informatica. È un terreno fertile su cui ancora si può lavorare, soprattutto per migliorare l'accessibilità della banda larga e la tutela di dati e contenuti, questione su cui si è concentrato lo studio e per cui l'Italia si è differenziata rispetto ad altri paesi.

“New Bit, New Business”. This is the theme of the 32° edition of the BIT, international fair of tourism, which has animated Milan last weekend, with stands from every corner of the world. With “new” they mean in particular the new and more impressing role that internet and social media especially are playing in the touristic field. Indeed, websites, Facebook pages, Twitter, Youtube Wikitravel and travelling blogs are creeping in, giving advices, organizing departures, even last minute. The list of guests includes many important names such as Giulia Eremita, country manager for Trivago.it, Vittorio Deotto of Tripadvisor and Michele Aggiato for Zoover. They are all representatives of an ever growing bond, which sees as its core the main theme of online reputation and of commercial opportunities offered by sites and blogs of travelling experiences' condivision.

BIT 2012: IL TURISMO SI FA SOCIAL

“New Bit, New Business”. Questo il tema della 32° edizione di BIT, Borsa Internazionale del Turismo, che lo scorso weekend ha animato Milano con stand da ogni parte del mondo. Con “new” si intende in particolare il nuovo e sempre più imponente ruolo che stanno assumendo internet e i social media in particolare nel campo di viaggi e turismo. Stanno prendendo infatti sempre più piede siti web, pagine Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Wikitravel, blog etc che affrontano il tema del turismo, danno consigli, organizzano partenze, persino last minute. Ospiti dell'evento nomi importanti quali Giulia Eremita, country manager di Trivago.it, Vittorio Deotto di Tripadvisor o ancora Michele Aggiato per Zoover. Tutti rappresentanti di un legame in continua crescita che vede come fulcro principale il tema della reputazione online e delle opportunità commerciali offerte da siti e blog di condivisione di esperienze di viaggio.

Last days' news: in Russia is boom of social networks. According to a Vtsiom Institute's survey, the number of users of the most popular social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, has registered a remarkable increase, leading the percentage of internauts using social media from 52% of 2011 up to 82% by the end of 2011. This peak is mostly due to the use of the web, especially of the social media, as a tool to protest and express the discontent for the politic and governmental situation of the country. By the end of 2011 they were already discussing the matter, stressing the role of social networks as the engine of the anti-Putin protest. In an interview, the Russian Attorney General, Yurij Chajka, confirmed this tendency, revealing a control by the same Power of Attorney, aimed at holding down extremist movements which could cause damages even to the same population. But the web still is an instrument through which we can express freely our opinions, even politic ones.

Notizia degli ultimi giorni: in Russia è boom di social network. Secondo un sondaggio dell'istituto Vtsiom, infatti, il numero di utenti dei più popolari social network, quali Facebook e Twitter, ha registrato un notevole aumento, portando la percentuale di internauti che usano le reti sociali dal 52% del 2010 all'82% nel 2011. Questo picco è dovuto principalmente all'utilizzo di internet e in particolare dei social media, come strumento di protesta per esprimere lo scontento per la situazione politica e governativa del paese. Se ne era già parlato alla fine del 2011, evidenziando il ruolo dei social network come motore della protesta anti-Putin. In un'intervista il Procouratore Generale russo, Yurij Chajka, aveva confermato questa tendenza, rivelando un controllo da parte della stessa procura, volto a frenare movimenti estremisti che potevano arrecare danni anche alla popolazione. Il web però continua ad essere uno strumento in cui si può esprimere liberamente la propria opinione, anche politica.

A disputed issue about social media in India. The government is going to actuate a selection of the web contents due to a denunciation from the same Indian citizens. Represented by the journalist Vinay Rai, the people of the biggest democracy in the world has stressed the invasion of the web by an ever growing number of blasphemous contents, which go against their religion, offending the public decorum. In order to avoid scandals, the government has assured that these contents are going to be controlled and blocked. Google and Yahoo have already started to eliminate the anti-religious elements, other social networks will soon follow their example. However, another part of the population is worried for the risk of censorship. Is selectivity the anteroom for the obscuration of the web and its contents? The Indian Communication Minister, Kapil Sibal, assures that there won't be any consequence of this kind, but only a control aimed at defending the religious belief and the same population.

India: il popolo censura i social network

Questione controversa riguardo ai social media in India. Il governo si sta infatti muovendo per attivare una selezione dei contenuti pubblicati in rete a seguito di una denuncia arrivata dagli stessi cittadini indiani. Rappresentati dalla voce del giornalista Vinay Rai, il popolo della democrazia più grande del mondo ha sottolineato come il web sia stato invaso da un numero sempre maggiore di contenuti blasfemi, che vanno contro la loro religione ed offendono così il decoro pubblico. Onde evitare scandali, il governo ha assicurato che tali contenuti saranno controllati e bloccati. Google e Yahoo si sono già attivati per eliminare quegli elementi considerati anti-religiosi, altri social network seguiranno presto il loro esempio. C'è però un'altra fetta di popolazione che ora lamenta il rischio di censura. La selettività è l'anticamera dell'oscuramento del web e dei suoi contenuti? Il ministro della Comunicazione indiano, Kapil Sibal, assicura che non ci saranno conseguenze di questo tipo, ma solamente un controllo mirato a difendere il credo religioso e quindi la stessa popolazione.

Just in these days (to be exact, from the 13th to the 17th Februrary) it is taking place the most important event in the world of social media, precisely the Social Media Week. Several world capitals are involved, from Hong Kong to London, from Paris ad Sao Paulo, Miami or New York. During these days, they will be the scenery of meetings and conferences, all about the world of digital. Among that cities, it should have appeared also Rome, like in 2011. Last year, indeed, the event had a great success, thanks to a crowded schedule (over 150 appointments in a week) wholly dedicated to the social world. The Social Media Week was repeated in Milan in September 2011, an event in wich we have taken part actively, through the Digital Breakfast. Unfortunately, this year Rome isn't directly involved in the important initiative,due to organizational problems, but negotiations are already ongoing to assure Italy the participation for the next years.

Social Media week: Roma è fuori

Proprio in questi giorni (per l'esattezza dal 13 al 17 febbraio) si sta svolgendo l'evento più importante nel mondo dei Social Media, la Social Media Week appunto. Sono coinvolte numerose capitali mondiali, da Hong Kong a Londra, da Parigi ad San Paolo, Miami o New York, che in questi giorni saranno lo scenario di meetings e conferenze tutte sul mondo digital. Tra queste doveva comparire anche Roma, come avvenne nel 2011. L'anno scorso infatti l'evento ottenne un grande successo, con un programma fitto di appuntamenti (oltre 150 in un una sola settimana) tutti dedicati al mondo social, e replicò con la Social Media Week tenutasi a Milano a settembre, a cui abbiamo partecipato anche noi. Quest'anno purtroppo, a causa di problemi organizzativi, Roma non sarà direttamente coinvolta nell'importante iniziativa, ma sono già in corso trattative per assicurare la partecipazione italiana per gli anni futuri.

The financial crisis menaces the radio? Twitter and Facebook mobilize to save them. It happens in South Africa, to be precise in Cape Town, in a quarter which has been the heart of the Apartheid and now is the headquarter of Bush Radio, the first African comunnitary radio station. Facing the threat to suspend the radio broadcasting for shortage of founds, the fans got moving and through the social media have made themselves heard, reaching the ears of the sponsors, who understood the importance of the information tool. It has been a while since Bush Radio, like other radios, has began to exploit the possibilities offered by the social media to reach a wider public, dealing with current and relevant themes, from the HIV virus, the drug abuse, to the criminality and the poverty which are more and more widespread. This way, the social network has come an information and expression tool fundamental for a society such as the South African one, still subject to serious problems difficult to solve.

I social networks salvano la radio in Sud Africa

La crisi economica minaccia le radio? Twitter e Facebook si mobilitano per salvarle. Succede in Sud Africa, per la precisione a Città del Capo, in un quartiere che è stato il cuore dell'Apartheid e che è ora sede di Bush Radio, la prima stazione radio comunitaria africana. Di fronte alla minaccia di sospendere le trasmissioni per mancanza di fondi, i fans si sono mossi e tramite i social media hanno fatto sentire la propria voce, giunta fino alle orecchie dei finanziatori che si sono resi conto dell'importanza dello strumento di comunicazione. Da qualche anno infatti Bush Radio, come altre radio, ha iniziato a sfruttare le possibilità dei social media per arrivare ad un pubblico più vasto, affrontando temi di attuali e fondamentali per la popolazione, dal virus dell'HIV, l'abuso di droga, fino alla criminalità e alla povertà sempre più diffuse. Il social network diventa così uno strumento di informazione ed espressione di importanza rilevante in una società come quella sudafricana, ancora soggetta a problematiche gravi e difficili da risolvere.

More and more confidence is put on social media. This is what emerges from the Edeleman Trust Barometer, a worldwide research on the trust people has in institutions, governments, public and private companies, NGOs and media. Social networking and microblogging websites have exceeded traditional media of information and advertising, growing up of a 19% only in Italy, allowing the whole category to reach the 59% of trust, clearly higher compared to the 40% of last year. The reference points aren't charismatic leaders anymore, but common people, colleagues, friends and most of all academics and experts who can boast the primacy of trust in several countries. Probably thanks to the openness and freedom of expression allowed by the most democratic medium of information at our disposal, precisely the web.

Cresce la fiducia nei media, merito del web.

Sempre più fiducia riposta nei social media. È questo ciò che emerge dall' Edelman Trust Barometer, ricerca condotta su base mondiale, che ha come oggetto la fiducia che il popolo ha in istituzioni, governo, aziende pubbliche o private, organizzazioni non governative e nei media. Siti di social networking e microblogging hanno superato i mezzi di informazione e di pubblicità tradizionali, crescendo del 19% solo in Italia, permettendo così alla categoria dell'informazione di raggiungere il 59% del trust, rispetto al 40% dello scorso anno. I punti di riferimento non sono più leader carismatici, ma gente comune, colleghi, amici e soprattutto accademici ed esperti che possono vantare il primato di fiducia in diversi paesi. Probabilmente merito dell'apertura e della libertà espressiva concessa dal più democratico mezzo di informazione a nostra disposizione, il web, appunto.

After many years of outward absence, the Italian mathematician Massimo Marchiori is back on top of the IT scene. Back in 1997 he invented what later would become, through the expert hands of Larry Page, the most used search engine in the world. The Italian genius now launches Volunia, a third generation search engine, ideated and developed in absolute secretness. The start-up was born in 2008 and has a DNA completely Italian, like other lucky projects. The presentation has taken place yesterday, Monday 6th February 2012, live in streaming from the University of Padova, cradle of the project. The beta phase counts the opening of the website, which already includes 12 languages, to a random selection of Power Users registered to the program. Volunia is not only an updated or advanced version of Google, but a “different vision of the Web”, like its same inventor defines it. “Power users, you will find less engine and more Volunia!” is one of the slogans with which they intend to promote what eventually could be a real revolution of the web.

Nasce Volunia, innovativo motore di ricerca interamente italiano

Dopo anni di apparente assenza dalla scena informatica, torna a far parlare di sé il matematico italiano Massimo Marchiori. Il genio che nel 1997 inventò quello che poi sarebbe diventato, nelle mani esperte di Larry Page, il motore di ricerca più utilizzato al mondo, lancia ora Volunia motore di ricerca di terza generazione ideato e programmato in totale segretezza. La start up nasce nel 2008 e ha un DNA totalmente italiano, come altri fortunati progetti. La presentazione è avvenuta OGGI/IERI, lunedì 6 febbraio 2012, in diretta streaming dall'università di Padova, culla del progetto. La fase beta prevede l'apertura del sito, che comprende già 12 lingue, a una selezione random dei Power Users già iscritti al programma. Volunia non è solo una versione aggiornata o avanzata di Google, bensì una vera e propria “visione diversa del web”, secondo le parole del suo stesso ideatore. “Power users, troverete meno motore e più Volunia!” è uno degli slogan con cui si intende promuovere quella che potrebbe diventare una vera e propria rivoluzione del web.

Do you remember the scandal caused by the news that CIA was controlling social networks? We talked about it here. Now it is in good company. The 19th January, the FBI has indeed presented a Request For Information (RFI) allowing the access to informations available on the web. Through a social media application, the agency is going to be able to have access to traffic data that will be used to control, identify and prevent possible crimes. It could almost look as the plot of a science fiction film, but after the 11th of September the American citizens have seen and allowed an ever growing encroachment of the privacy by governmental authorities for precautionary purpose.

A common hope among the people of the web is to mantain the right to have a free and public discussion over these uses of the net.

L'FBI presto controllerà i social networks

Vi ricordate lo “scandalo” suscitato dalla notizia che la CIA controllava i social network? Ne avevamo parlato anche noi qui. Ora è in buona compagnia. Anche l'FBI ha infatti presentato, il 19 gennaio scorso, una “Richiesta di informazioni” (Request For Information) dichiarando di voler usufruire delle informazioni che può reperire quotidianamente sul web. Attraverso un'applicazione social, potrà infatti avere accesso a dati di traffico che serviranno a controllare, identificare e prevenire eventuali reati. Potrebbe sembrare quasi la trama di un film di fantascienza, ma dopo l'11 settembre i cittadini americani, e non solo, hanno visto, e permesso, una sempre maggiore invasione della privacy da parte delle agenzie governative a scopi preventivi.

Speranza comune al popolo del web è di continuare ad avere una discussione libera e pubblica su questo tipo di utilizzi della rete.

From the 1st of March, Google is changing its privacy policy to provide a more customized service, suitable for the user, as well as to maximize the profits of Google Ads. Apparently, it won't change that much, but you will soon notice that your new Google page will be custom-made, reflecting your preferences and past experiences. Google, indeed, is exploiting all it knows about the users to make their research as specific as possible and to expose them only to the advertisements they are more interested in, increasing that way the possibility of their success. On one hand, this change benefits users and companies, on the other hand it seems it will impinge their privacy without any way out but that of giving up the most popular online search engine. We have to wait until March to have the final verdict.

Google annuncia un cambiamento nei privacy settings

Dal primo marzo, Google cambierà la sua privacy policy per fornire un servizio ancor più personalizzato e adatto all'utente, oltre che massimizzare la resa dei Google Ads. Apparentemente non cambierà molto, ma vi accorgerete presto che la vostra nuova pagina di Google è fatta “su misura per voi”, rispecchia le vostre preferenze ed esperienze passate. Google infatti sfrutterà tutto ciò che “sa” sull'utente per rendere la sua ricerca più mirata e per esporlo a spazi pubblicitari che maggiormente gli interessano, aumentando così le possibilità di successo. Questa novità da un lato favorisce certamente imprese ed utenti, dall'altro pare invadere la loro privacy senza via di uscita se non quella di abbandonare il più grande motore di ricerca del web. Aspettiamo marzo per il verdetto definitivo.

Facebook, Twitter and the social media as a possible solution to help Italy come out from the crisis. This is the long term vision of Giuseppe De Rita, President of Censis, the Italian Institute for the socio-economic research. On the occasion of the yearly report that takes a look to the Italian situation, indeed, it has been stressed the new role that social netwoks are acquiring: a scenery where to build up that kind of socialization that public institutions lack. The picture is clear: by now social networks are used by the majority of Italian population (the 53,1%), l'87,4% if we talk about youngs. Their use is diversified: from information (they are replacing TV news and the press) to social relationships, just to end with economics and advertising, the last frontier of social media. A virtual world that is offering us a real and possible way out from a crisis that is plaguing our society for too long now.

I social networks: l'ancora di salvezza italiana?

Beintoo, the Italian start up which opened the series of meetings Digital Breakfast as the first guest of EarlyMorning, won the important international award of LeWeb2011. The Starup Competition, hold in Paris from the 7th to the 9th of December, has seen over 600 participants, and only one of the 16 finalists was Italian. The study of an App which exploits the gamification's strategies to do advertising on web platforms and social networks, and at the same time allows to the user to get bonus to be used in real life. The jury has been fascinated by the creativity as well as the problem solving techniques which have allowed to obtain a double advantage, for users and companies. Antonio Tomarchio, CEO of Beintoo, declares that winning this competition, very important and renowed in the world of the Web 2.0, is only the beginning for Beintoo, that is growing up leaving its headquarters in Italy, a country that offers different resources in the digital economics. Beintoo conquista LeWeb2011

We are honoured to have been chosen by the Council of Europe to collaborate to the development of Edgeryders, an online platform which aims to revolutionize European policy making.

Ivan Vaghi, social media strategist at EarlyMorning, has taken part to the Strasbourg international meeting  on the 15th and 16th of November 2011. The objective of the project, developed under the patronage of the CoE, is to leverage the Edgeryders web platform to engage citizens, institutions and poliicy makers in Europe, also using gamification-inspired techniques.

Siamo onorati di essere stati scelti dal Council of Europe per collaborare allo sviluppo di Edgeryders, una piattaforma online che mira a rivoluzionare il modo di fare policy in Europa.

Ivan Vaghi, specialista di EarlyMorning sulle dinamiche sociali nel web, è intervenuto in occasione del meeting internazionale di Strasburgo (15 e 16 novembre). L'obiettivo del progetto, patrocinato dal CoE, è quello di sfruttare la piattaforma web Edgeryders per avvicinare cittadini, istituzioni e sistema politico in Europa, usando anche approcci ispirati alla gamification.

Vengeful librarians. This is the name that has been assigned to the team of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, best known as CIA, responsible of checking out Facebook, Twitter, Amazon and many other social networks of the world. The Open Source Center, the organism of the CIA headed by Doug Naquin from the little town of McLean, in North Virginia (as far as we know), has been created following the necessity to gain further control over the public's thoughts and political orientation most of all, as a way to prevent any other possible attacks against the American Government after the 11th of September.

By now, the mechanism has been improved and it's reaching every corner of the globe; it has been adopted by many other International and Government's agencies, which have declared to follow our online conversations, blogs, posts, tweets and updates.

The suspect that even in the Middle East the web was under control turned out to be justified when at the end of Gheddafi's dictatorship magazines began to spread the news about his habit of “spying” his subjects. Someone can think that it is just a way to violate our privacy, someone that is just another way to prevent and defend us, the only important thing is that the CIA and the other agencies don't abuse of their power.

La CIA ora ti segue su Facebook

Bibliotecari vendicativi. Questo è il nome assegnato al team della U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, meglio nota come CIA, responsabile del controllo di Facebook, Twitter, Amazon e molti altri social networks a livello internazionale. L' Open Source Center, l'organo della CIA diretto da Doug Naquin dalla sede di Mc Lean (per quanto ne sappiamo noi), piccola cittadina del Nord Virginia, è nato per soddisfare la necessità di un maggiore controllo soprattutto su pensieri e opinioni politiche della gente, come modo per prevenire qualsiasi ulteriore possibilità di attacco contro il governo americano dopo l'11 settembre.

Al momento, il meccanismo è stato migliorato e sta raggiungendo pian piano ogni angolo del mondo. È stato adottato da molte altre agenzie governative nazionali e non, che hanno dichiarato di seguire le nostre conversazioni online, i nostri blogs, posts, tweets e aggiornamenti.

Once upon a time, there was a world where to buy something, you went to the shop looking for it, frequently asking opinions to an expert. Once upon a time, there was a world where to find a job or to recruit someone the only way was an interview where the candidates showed their best cards.

Nowadays, thanks to the coming of internet and most of all, of the social networks, this world is disappearing, leaving the stage to a virtual way of life. Our decisions are more and more influenced by the social media. Starting from the (often online-) shopping we do after having consulted Facebook, Twitter, blogs or brands' websites, making consumers' comments and feedbacks becoming more and more important for the success of the brand, reaching even the online-recruitment of new employees by companies. The 91% of them take a look to their future colleagues' profile on the most popular social networks, and not only on the CV published on the famous online job-network LinkedIn. So be careful to what you post on your own profile, it could change someone else's mind!

C'era una volta un mondo in cui per trovare lavoro o assumere qualcuno, l'unico metodo era il classico colloquio durante il quale i candidati giocavano le loro carte vincenti.

Five breakfasts for a worldwide look to the digital communication.This was the main theme of the EarlyMorning encounters held in occasion of the Milan Social Media Week, from the 19th to the 23rd of September, 2011 Five meetings to explain the new opportunities offered by the social media in every field of our society.

In what ways digital communication is changing our social relationships? Examples of the influence exerted by the new medias on interpersonal relationships within a professional context or in our everyday life have been exposed through concrete cases, with the precious intervention of experts from all over the world to clarify the processes that have lead to the actual situation.

Five cues from which to start reflecting on the future role of social media and modern communication technologies in everyone's life, presented through the analysis of the situation in different countries and contexts taken as a model to explain the current tendencies and trends in the social system.

Digital breakfasts per gente digital

Cinque colazioni per uno sguardo internazionale sulla comunicazione digitale. Questo è stato il filo conduttore degli incontri, organizzati da EarlyMorning, tenutisi in occasione della Social Media Week di Milano, dal 19 al 23 settembre 2011. Cinque meetings per spiegare le nuove opportunità che i social media offrono in ogni settore della società contemporanea.

In che modo la comunicazione digitale sta cambiando le nostre relazioni sociali? Esempi dell'influenza che i nuovi media esercitano sulle relazioni interpersonali, in contesti professionali come nella vita quotidiana, sono stati esposti mediante casi concreti, grazie anche al prezioso intervento di esperti da ogni parte del mondo per chiarire i processi che hanno condotto alla situazione attuale.
