The Chaos of Inspiration

Hello! So on par with it becoming fall again, my love for writing, and Appetence, has been renewed. Yay! But because of this, I’ve been occupied with doing a re-read to reacquaint myself with the story again before posting any new chapters. 

That being said, it’s been roughly five years since I first started writing Appetence and have realized some of the older chapters need attention 😅 Mainly reworking awkward phrases, fixing grammar, breaking up text blocks, etc. However, in some areas, the work is a bit more extensive. I’ve been expanding on bits of world building, reinforcing foreshadowing elements that weren’t as apparent as I initially thought, giving more depth to certain characters, etc. At the same time, I acknowledge not everyone will want to do a reread. So that's where this post comes in! 

As I'm making my way through, I'll be updating this with a quick list of any notable changes made to each chapter. And of course, nothing that I am adding or changing will alter the basic plot in any substantial way. This is mostly just to make the world of Appetence and its characters a bit richer.

Unfortunately, I haven't really touched Appetence in over a week because I've somehow come down with the worst cold ever 😭 So once I get some energy back— and my brain feels more like a brain again and less like mush— I'll be able to devote time to a final read through and get it posted.

"Intensely sleep deprived"— call me out, why don't you? I'm kidding, but you know me too well at this point 😂😭 In my defense though, some of my best ideas come to me at 3 am when Appetence decides to haunt me, rather than let me sleep 🤷‍♀️

Ok, ok but in all seriousness I struggle to even write 1k and you’re over here writing 21k??? I bow down to you queen. I also have no idea who would complain if we got 21k in the next chapter lol. Not me and I’d be on the front lines fighting if we do have complainers 😤. Any way enjoy this meme

Though to be fair to this chapter, I was asked numerous times to write Vee's POV on what he all saw regarding Harrie and Draco and the wards— and it got a bit... intense asdfghjk.

As for Chapter 69 and when it'll be posted, welp. It's been a thing and I'm starting to see why people have Beta readers 😂😅 To give you an idea, this is where the word count is currently at, as of this morning. Yeah...... I desperately need to edit it down and cut some things out,  because I fully acknowledge 21k for a single chapter is probably too much of a time commitment for most people. However, I am terrible at that part of editing. I just get too attached to my words 😅

Though to answer your question, I've actually been working on two novels that I'm hoping to one day get published (fingers crossed). Obviously I have quite a bit on my plate in terms of writing, so I don't know when they'll be finished. But between Appetence + its edits, and the copious amount of other Tomarry WIPS I've been working on, I've been rather occupied 😂

I was wondering I know there is a tag saying magically powerful Harry Potter. So I’m sorry if this sounds stupid of me but will Harrie and Tom be equals? Like in power?

First off, thank you!! I'm thrilled you're enjoying Appetence so far 💕

Secondly, not stupid at all! I've talked quite a bit about the power issue before in some older posts/about Harrie and Vee becoming equals, and how that may look in the future. So if you want to dig around, there's some longer posts detailing my thoughts.

Though to answer your question now, to a degree yes. They will eventually be more matched in magical power than they currently are. Vee has always acknowledged Harrie's raw potential, even in the beginning chapters, and she's been slowly tapping into it, as evidenced by their recent duel and the wards. She's definitely a powerhouse in her own right. The only caveat, of course, is that Vee has the legendary Elder Wand and years of experience on her. So there will always be that aspect which gives him slightly more of an edge— although this isn't to say Harrie wouldn't be able to hold her own against him. For instance, going back to their duel, she does manage to disarm him— albeit with his yew wand. But still, that's pretty crazy when you think about it.

The thing though is that, by the very nature of their relationship, there will be always be some sort of power imbalance between them. Vee is the original soul and Harrie is his horcrux, after all. Not to mention the whole political aspect and Vee's power in that sense vs Harrie's. I have longer posts talking about this exact issue, but yeah. Given Appetence's story and the context of their relationship, there is no feasible way to fully erase the power imbalance, but only lessen it, if that makes sense?

Ooooh, this is a hard question 🫣 Especially since I like a few characters more in the books than in the movies— and some more in the movies than in the books. And I only get 10?! Damn. Okay. Let's see, in no particular order of favourites (except for the top two spots, because I'm biased):

Harry Potter (I think this one is pretty obvious ahaha)

2. Tom Riddle/Voldemort (Again, no shocker there)

3. Sirius Black (especially book!Sirius because this man is so morally grey and I love him for it)

4. Hermione Granger (both movie and book Hermione are amazing— but I love the level of unhinged that book!Hermione possesses)

5. Ron Weasley (albeit more book!Ron than movie!Ron. Movie!Ron sometimes pisses me off— but that's not his fault. He was done dirty by the screen writers 😭)

6. Draco Malfoy (weirdly I like him more in the movies. I think Felton did an amazing job portraying the foil Draco was meant to be to Harry's character, especially from the Half-Blood Prince onward)

7. Severus Snape (movie!Snape, Alan Rickman. Need I say more? 😂)

8. Newt Scamander (I know he's technically from the Fantastic Beasts franchise, but I love him all the same. He's so fun to watch, and I'm currently writing another Tomarry fic where he becomes a prominent side character)

9. Albus Dumbledore (a bit controversial in the Tomarry world, but I like Dumbledore from the stance of a complex, highly flawed, and manipulative character. His machinations are really interesting to me and to see how he justifies them in the end. So I think he deserves a place on the list, even if he's not technically a 'favourite'— in a positive sense— for me)

10. Narcissa Malfoy (admittedly, this might come from fanfic bias— because you guys know I love writing Narcissa. But even in the books and movies, I have an appreciation for her. She doesn't appear that often, but I still love her interactions with Draco and the lengths she goes to protect her son. Plus, she straight up lied to Vee. That takes some guts 😂)

This was so hard to only pick 10 😭 But looking at my list, I can't say it's too surprising, given the cast of Appetence ahaha.

this will definitely go up there as one my favourite pieces of fiction I’ve read in a loonnggg times 🩷 I’m on tenter hooks waiting for a new chapter. Before I get to your questions, I want to say to everyone that if I haven't answered your messages yet, I'm sorry! My inbox has gotten rather unwieldy lately and a quite a few have been buried 😅 However, please know that I appreciate every single one and that they bring me an indescribable amount of joy! I'll be trying my best to get as many answered as I can 💕

The edits are definitely coming along! 💕 I've been having quite a bit of fun working on them whenever I have the chance to do so. In terms of progress, there's been a lot recently— thanks for reminding me that I need to update my pinned post with said changes (I forgot that existed 😅 My bad adsdfhjk). As for the next chapter, things are also shaping up. A few weeks ago, I ended up losing ~3k words because my autosave glitched 😭 There was some emotional damage when I realised what had happened and I needed to take some time to chill out 😂😭 Ya girl was staring into the void for a bit asdfghjdsk.

As for what it's felt like going back to re-read, it's been surreal. When I'm writing from chapter to chapter, it's easy to get caught up in focusing only on what's happening in that particular chapter. So it's been a journey to go back, get a bigger scope of things, and see the developments since Ch 1. Re-reading has given me a better appreciation of each character's development and has been letting me see where they still need to improve. But take Vee, for example. Can I say— oh my god?? I forgot how big of an asshole he was in the beginning. Just major asshole 😂 Don't get me wrong, this isn't to say he still isn't one— but I like to think he has improved. I mean, his previous level of callousness towards Harrie— how short his fuse was, how often he physically vented his anger towards her(don't even get me started on him choking her in Ch. 26), etc— to him now showing regret for his actions? Remarkable. Outstanding 😂

And Harrie, too. She's grown so much and has become more confident in herself— and that's really clear in how she's been acting and defining her motives lately. This is why I'm so excited for this next chapter. Not to toot my own horn, but I think it just puts into relief the sheer degree of change both of them have undergone. And re-reading has given me all that more of appreciation for how this story is panning out 💕

Also, I just want to say you're too sweet 🥹💕 I'm always so touched to hear how much love you hold for Appetence, and how you're always looking forward to more! Your comments and messages never fail to put a smile on my face 💕

I’m like 20 chapters into appetence and it is SO SO good and definitely my fav tom riddle fic till date. I have been binge reading and pretty sure im gonna finish it all up pretty soon and since there are only 68 chaps posted I wonder if it will be completed? and ofc no pressure! As for your question on whether or not Appetence will be completed? Absolutely. Now, when will that be? I can't say 😭😂 I'm unfortunately the type of person who is at the whims of my Muse— which means I go through frenzied periods of writing multiple chapters at once, and then having to recover because I did not really sleep at all during said period. And even worse, I sometimes write out of order (for example, I have chapters 71, 74-75, and a few unnumbered chapters already heavily drafted 😅). On top of that, I'm working on some of other WIPs that I want to get posted this year, too. Basically, my writing process is ✨chaotic✨ and doesn't lend itself to structure.

So yeah. Tl;dr Appetence will be finished at some point (I have to— I mean, I have dreams about this fic and it haunts me at every waking moment 🫣).

Like seriously, all I can picture is Lucius having the same thought process and just crying a little on the inside every damn day. Because you know that man is chronically STRESSED from always having to spin Vee's antics in a positive light 😂😭 And honestly? I almost feel bad for him 🫣 Almost being the key word. It's more of a punishment, really, than a reward (and you know that Vee just revels in seeing Lucius struggle, the sadist he is ahaha).

Oh, what a question 😂 Unfortunately, Harrie is a bit hard for me to nail down with a fan cast 😅 Outside of how she's described in the text, it's quite difficult for me to find someone who measures up to my imagination.

That being said, I've definitely seen some fan art that's made me go oooo 👀 Like this one, for example, which is especially fitting for when her eyes flash red under the horcrux's influence. Or this one with the scales (because I admittedly love Harrie's scales, okay 😂).

If you want more realistic pictures, I do have an entire moodboard set up her ahaha. Although, it's mostly just general vibes 🤷‍♀️

I've also heard some pretty interesting fan casts from other readers! Danielle Rose Russell was a pretty popular one in the comment section, along with Sadie Sink (although she reminds me more of Ginny tbh), Ellie Bamber, and Elle Fanning. So everyone clearly has their own way of envisioning Harrie ahaha. I'm curious: do you have a specific person in mind??

The part "you'll make me wonderful" goes SO well because they are both using her no matter how much tom scorns Dumbledore for doing that to harry

While I've only watched Wicked once, I can absolutely see your vision 😍 The part about both Dumbledore and Tom using Harrie, albeit it for different purposes and in different ways, is so on point! Especially since Tom has been using Harrie's name and fame to solidified his own power + uphold his public image. Truly a "you'll make me wonderful" moment ahaha.
