Newspaper Blackouts by Austin Kleon
Hey friends,
I’ve been a little quiet over here because I’ve been working on an art show that starts this Thursday in Denton, TX. If you’re in the Denton/Dallas/Ft. Worth area, you should come. There are 30 new pieces and I’ll be talking about my process and my book, Steal Like An Artist. Details here.
One other thing: sometimes I post poems right after I make them on Instagram and Twitter. If you want to follow along: @austinkleon
Thanks,
—AK
In love with blackout poetry
10 things i hate about you, julia stiles, funny, movie - inspiring picture on Favim.com on @weheartit.com - http://whrt.it/ZqGBYx
I get played with and dropped. I can’t even begin to talk about how shattered my heart has become. I can’t give it out fully anymore because if I do someone’s going to walk off with it and just never come back! And you know what? It’s not even their fault. It’s mine. I gave them my heart and they took it. I offered it.

Because I'm a coward I write my feelings out using characters
Tonight, you’re mine completely.
He stood before you, his eyes flitting away as soon as they met yours in a nervous disarray. You smiled softly, casting your look downwards also as the silence set in. “You look beautiful,” He finally said. You felt your face flush at the compliment. “Thanks,” You wished your hair would fall in front of your face to cover your blush. You even wished that your bangs would magically grow in a second. Anything to hide your embarrassment. He ran a hand through his hair. To end the awkward silence you said, “You must think my hands are ugly then,” He quirked an eyebrow upwards, “What?” The thought had sounded better in your head. The words came tumbling out as you fumbled to explain, “I heard that if someone thinks you have pretty hands, they think you’re ugly. So it must be the same the other way around, right?” A crooked smile appeared on his face, “That can’t be right.” You tilted your head curiously. The way you looked right now was much more than beautiful. “Everything about you is perfect.” A slight pink tinge spread across your cheeks. It was strange. How much his words affected you.
You give your love so sweetly.
You were afraid it wasn’t real. You held up your hand and asked to see his. He put it against yours gently and you felt your heart race at his touch. “Your hands are small,” You said jealously, “They’re nearly as small as mine,” He chuckled, “Does that bother you?” Your lips pursed, “Maybe a little,” “Ahh,” He sighed playfully, “The jealous type, ehh?” Your nose crinkled in annoyance. You hated to be the jealous kind of person. It was an ugly thing. You answered, “Only when I have a good reason to be,” He smirked slightly, hinting at something other than just the hands, “Well I don’t see a good one in this situation,” You cocked your head to the side, “And why is that?” His hands enclosed yours as he intertwined them, “I’m yours,” The blush returned. Or was it that it never left? His hand wrapped around your slim waist as he pulled you closer to him. And just like that they were dancing. Dancing to the music in the background. Your smile dropped when again doubting thoughts resurfaced. You couldn’t help but wonder if this was all just a lie. Or a dream. If it was a dream…could you never wake up? If it was a lie…could they just pretend for a while? You couldn’t help the sigh.
“Do you even know how to dance?” You asked him. He was always surprising you. “I learned a while ago. My mom used to get lonely when my dad was on business trips,” He told you, “She loved to dance.” You smiled, “I don’t know how to dance, you know,” He laughed, “There’s so many things I have to teach you,” His grip tightened, “But for now - just trust me,” Trust? How can I be sure of you? “What are you thinking about?” He asked after you fell silent for several minutes. “A good reason why I should trust you,” You said with a lighter tone than you meant. He looked you dead in the eye and said, “Because I love you,” You stared back at him, “How do I know you’re not lying to me right now?” “My love for you isn’t a lie,” He told you firmly. “I love you.” “I…” You choked on your words. “—even if you can’t say it back yet,” He swooped in to your rescue, “I love you,” “How about tomorrow?” You asked meekly, almost afraid to ask. “Tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that.” He said for emphasis. You hesitated before slowly nodding. “You know you can tell me anything, right?” He told you, “I want you to be able to trust me,” You nodded again against his chest as you slowly leaned into his embrace. “And another thing,” His voice dropped to a whisper. “You don’t need an excuse to hold my hand,” You let out a gasp, surprised at his correct intuition.
Will you still love me tomorrow?
You still weren’t sure. But you knew that he loved you right there and right then. And that was enough for you.

Hey you. Guy who might be interested in me:
I don't like to be Led on Abandoned Lied to Confused So if there's a chance you'll do either of those Don't even waste your time
I'm doubting you again
Often times, people tell me not to doubt myself. Often times, i tell people not to doubt themselves. Doubt is always portrayed as the enemy. But what people don't realize is that doubt isn't the opposite of certainty. I think of doubt like how i think of drawing. Certainty draws the contour lines. Doubt fills it in with a thousand different shades You need doubt to complete the picture I guess what I'm saying is Its okay to have your doubts
I miss the sound of his voice
The Ending of More Than Summer
It was a strange feeling
Nostalgia
But how could that be?
I was nostalgic over a love that hadn't even existed
I yearned for the memories that had not yet been created
I yearned for the milestones we had not yet passed
I yearned for the mutual feelings that had not yet started
I yearned for us as if it had begun. As if it had ended.
It was a strange feeling.
The heartache of an unrequited love. Â
