these are the tags from one of my older posts. but i feel the need to add onto this with a discovery i made in the dialogue of niko and kate’s hangouts.

Niko It isn't a difficult question if you don't care about the answer. What kind of a man do I want to be? I want to be a whole one. I do not want to be owned by anyone. I do not want to be controlled by the actions of others. I want to be able to make the right decision and it be my own decision to make.

and like. this is exactly what i mean!!! but its really interesting to hear it straight from niko's mouth. he *does* do awful things at the hands of others, but he wishes it would not be that way. but he doesnt think he can change, so he'll forever be stuck killing for money because realistically it's the only thing he's good at.

and i also think this stems from his hatred of what happened to him in the war. in his words, he was tricked into killing, and essentially had his innocence and purity ripped from him. if he had never joined the army, and had instead followed romans mother's advice and gone with him to america, he would not be broken as he is now. he could have done anything, but instead chose to fight and now he can never be anything but a fighter. its actually quite heartbreaking.
