A few scamps for my zine which I will be making over the next few weeks. 

The zine will be about the development of the video game industry in Japan, featuring early developments from arcade machines to post 2000 where I will comment on modern day video games.

The first fanzine is thought to have been “The Comet” Started by Chicago’s Science Correspondence Club.[1] This started the sci-fi and alternative culture stereotype that comes with Zines, leading to zines playing a role in the punk movement of the 1970′s. Some popular punk zines are Slash, Sniffin’ Glue (UK) and Punk which actually shut down when punk began to become popular.[2]

After the punk movement, Zines began to reappear in the 90′s with the riot grrrl scene.

Whatever riot grrrl became - a political movement, an avant-garde, or an ethos - it began as a zine. -  papermag
