the   cortez    is   a   tomb  ,    coffinâs  lid  strapped  down  tight  by  the   claws   of  some  darker   force     âââ     but  holidays  bring  about  a   breath   of   fresher  air  ,    an  inhale  of    (  over   )    indulgence     &    an   exhale   of  vague  pain  ,    regret  in  belated  sigh  .    liz  is  an  observer  of  it  all  ,   high  in  her  blue  parrot  perch  ,    gaze  cast  over  the  goings  on  but  rarely  partaking  .     accused  look  devolves  into  something  softer  ,    something  in  the  breadth  of  the  contentedness   one  feels   when  spending  time  with  a  dear  friend  .    of   course   she  has  tales   to  spin    ;    she  is  nothing  if  not  a  little  nosy  .         â       what  would  you  like  to  hear  ?    the  kids  who  got  too  tipsy    &   fell  out  a  sixth  story  window  ,    or  the  drunk  who  convinced  himself  he  was   clint  eastwood     &      spewed   dirty  harry  references  all  night  ?      â
â     NEVER WAS MUCH OF A     dirty harry fan.     always preferred the dollars trilogy,  myself.      â     this is mused mostly to herself,  not necessarily expecting agreement nor debate in her nostalgic trip to the sixties.      â     did you at least indulge his immersion into spaghetti westerns  ?     i should think a cowboy   â   drunken or not   â   might be quite the charmer if given the chance.      â     she leans forward now,  the countess all ears for a tale of debauchery and mischief   :   she is as fascinated by the laughs as she is by the tears,  tastes them both with a palate of wonder.
