Do any of the old Disney movies count? Because a lot of them were classics. I haven’t really been on an old movie feel yet, but I’ve definitely been listening to some old music from the 50′s, 60′s and 70′s, because you truly just can’t beat it. There’s just something about the old audio that hits different.

Aye, as long as they’re from the older days - old school animated movies are great. Totally agree on the music front. That’s why vinyls have become so big again, because that sound is so unique and makes everything sound better. Ye ever listened to Sister Rosetta Tharpe? Now there’s a legend. 

Yes. I never recorded there. But my father and uncles did have a studio they owned and I did a few songs there with my father. Oh, I know what you mean about Abbey Road.

Do ye still record in Miami, though? I know some musicians will go elsewhere to record an album, for whatever reason. Never made much sense to me, but I’m no a musician, so what do I know.

I was thinking maybe Patagonia or Peru. 

I guess this means that I’m missing out on really good films because I don’t think I’ve seen anything that old before, but now that you’re talking about it, I just might have to sit down and try to watch some old films.

Aye, ye are. Need to work on that, pal. A good starting point is checking out the movies on the AFI’s top 100 lists. Some absolute crackers there.

I’d have to say my favorite pre 1970 film would have to be Casablanca for sure. Who doesn’t love a classic love story plus Michael Curtiz is an amazing director so it’s pure magic if you ask me. I’ve been trying to catch up on my movies lately, I just watched Charlie’s Angels and it was amazing!! I should watch some old movies, they really are amazing.

Excellent choice - we love a good old fashioned romance. Although I find myself more drawn to movies like The Apartment where it’s got romance, but it’s a wee bit more subtle, ye know? I don’t know, that’s just me. If ye need film recommendations, of got them coming out me lugs.

My ex wife got me started on old movies.  There are some really good ones.  I loved the old kings and queens of Hollywood.  There was some attitude back in that day.  Alec Guinness was a great actor, especially back in the day.  I might have to check that out.

Good on ye ex wife. Oh aye, I’m forever crushing on Tony Curtis - an absolute dreamboat. He was - I never watched much of his filmography, apart from Star Wars, until the past couple of years and I’m glad I did. He’s outrageously good. Ye never know from one movie to the next which character he’s gonnae end up playing. I love actors who are like that - always full of surprises. 

I simply do not trust people who do not like The Beatles. Always said you don’t have to be a massive fan. But c’mon, everyone has to have at least one song that they love. If they don’t, then yup - trust gone out the window. He truly was. No one can do it like he’s done. I’ve seen Vertigo. But the one that has probably scarred me the most is The Birds.

People who say they don’t like The Beatles are saying they don’t like music, because their music is so varied that everybody’s gonnae like at least one of them. Oh aye, The Birds is terrifying. Never want to go to Trafalgar Square again after that - don’t want all them pigeons attacking me. I really love Rear Window - such a clever premise.

That’s no fun

Ye know what’s no fun? Us not going on a vacation. We should do something about that.

If I remember it correctly from what my father told me, they were told about living in the same house that Eric Clapton had lived in while recording one of his albums. And record at one of the nearby studios where he had also recordered. It seemed to help because the album was then a hit. I will.

Really? That’s so fucking cool. I think a studio having a wee bit of history really helps inspire musicians. I mean... look at Abbey Road in London - such an iconic studio, and any artist who records there can feel it, ye know?

 I love those old gem type of movies. I mean I admit i haven’t seen them all but you make a good point there – I might have to go on a binge after work is done. so I can get into this with you both. I haven’t seen that one but one of my favorites is a Christmas Carol ( 1951 ) . you know how the story goes but i always find those things interesting to see how actors take the role.

Don’t think anybody could ever see them all, but we can have a good go at it! I don’t think I’ve seen that version of it. I don’t think any would be as good as the Muppets’ version, but that doesnae mean I shouldn’t watch all the versions I can.

I’ve never heard of it nor seen it. This makes my inner classic movie buff rightfully ashamed

What?! Christopher Pineapple, ye should be ashamed. The post-WW2 Ealing comedies are excellent, and have a few big names in them from the time. Especially Alec Guinness. Get on it, pal.

this is not one of those classical movies.. but seeinng as i’ve grown up as a huge beatles fan ‘help!’ and ‘a hard days night’ - are some of my most favorite movies ever. then of course ‘psycho’ and ‘casablanca’… i mean there is an endless upstream of classical movies you just have to love.

I’d say they’re classics, even if they’re no the awards season favourites sorta classics. Plus who doesnae love The Beatles? Ye watched any other Hitchcock movies? I’ve watched a few of them now, and he’s a master of the craft.

Yes. Their music wasn’t doing as well as the previous one and they were told about a place in Miami and why didn’t thy try recording there. So they did, and the rest was history. Thats true. I might do that at some point.

Really? I didn’t know that. Must been a hell of a recording studio, eh? I think ye should. Better do it soon if ye wanna really make the most of the snow on the ground.
