All The Luck in The World is a graphic novel exploring a variety of superstitions from different countries and cultures. The book is illustrated with a vibrant colour palette which is accompanied by my own handwriting typeface.
My final book on ISSUUĀ
Major Project Evaluation
Overall, Iām extremely pleased and proud of the body of work Iāve created for my major project - itās been quite a journey. IāveĀ really enjoyed learning about different superstitions and their origins, theyāre really interestingĀ and Iāve had a lot of fun along the way. I think Iāve definitely broadened my skillset in this project, Iāve learnt about different areas of visual communication and can now recognise how I work most successfully in my work flow. In addition, Iāve learnt that initial stages of experimentation are vital in developing a chosen visual language and this stage really helped me. Thereās been a few times where creative block has hit, but I now know that exploring with hands on techniques such as Lino printing help me to step back and to progress from this.
Itās been a strange time to say the least and I never thought Iād be submitting my final major project from home. Consequently,Ā Iāve not beenĀ able to do any test prints as I donāt have access to a printer at home. In addition, I had hoped to experiment with riso printing for my final outcome, but this had to be changed since moving home for the lockdown.Ā
I think my final graphic novel feels fun, energetic and vibrant and Iām really pleased with how the spreads and illustrations have developed over the course of the project. Creating a typeface from my handwriting is something Iāve been keen to do for a long time and I think it works really well alongside my illustrations. I've really enjoyed the journey, Iāve worked really hard on this project and I think itās paid off. In the future, I could expand this book and illustrate more superstitions.
The three years have been great, Iāve had so much fun and learnt a huuuuge amount! See you on the flip-side AUB x
I did some more research to double check if the asterisk was in the correct place and found that it goes after the word itās adding more information to/correcting, so Iāve changed this appropriately.
āSome ofā is too low, easy to miss and doesn't feel connected.

Final spread
Having the information on the left page feels much more successful in introducing the rhyme. In addition, the lines and dots to the illustration from the number helps them to feel more connected.
This is followed by the superstition of saluting a single magpie and the origin behind this.Ā
Development of spread
After looking through the different superstition pages in the book, I felt this page needed some more colour as it had a lot more white space than the other pages. I decided to do this through a grey, hand coloured background and pops of colourĀ on the captions.
I thought this was much more successful than the previous layout. Having said this, the text felt a bit awkward at the end andĀ I thought it would be more successful at the beginning.Ā
Mocking these designs up has really helped bring them to life. I think my favourite design is with the blue background as this provides a bit of consistency between this touch point and my website/social media.Ā
The illustration on my website has a blue background and I think I actually prefer this on the business card too. Iād like to use card stock that has a nice texture - slightly raised.Ā
The back: Think this layout is working successfully. My name and occupation is clear. Iāve used my handwriting font to keep it consistent with how my name is written,
Initial Design
This illustration has become my logo and featuresĀ heavily on my social media accounts andĀ website. My name is how its written on my website too, I thought having consistency would be successful.Ā

Think having my name beneath the illustration works more successfully than it was in the previous design.
I think it would be nice if my name was either embossed or printed in gold foiling.Ā
Square is quite nice - is different to a traditional size. However, not sure how easy this would be to hold.Ā

Really love the colours and shapes but in particular I love the use of the gold foiling. If I get pick up a business card and it as attention to detailing, like gold foil, Iām more likely to keep in/pin it on my pin board.Ā

I love the typeface on this business card. Itās eye catching and feels fun. Its indented onto the back which is a nice touch. I personally like tactile things and plan to look into the execution of printing for my own cards.Ā
Not entirely sure if I like it being portrait - I think landscape is easier and nicer to hold.Ā
Business Card Inspo: Marina Cardoso
Love the riso printed front - is eye-catching and almost a mini print in itself. Name on the back is prominent and large which I think is successful as its important to know who's business card youāre looking at.Ā

1. Having the two rows at the top and bottom of the page seem to emphasise the amount of empty white space there is, which I think it making it feel quite vacant.Ā
2. Think this may be the design thats working the most successfully at the moment. Having no illustrations on the right hand page is working nicely.
Think this is working successfully: Iāve limited the types of illustrations Iāve used on the left hand page as having lots of different shapes and colours felt quite chaotic and untidy.Ā
I think this layout lends itself to having the 3 below the text on the right hand page too.Ā
