Eliza smiled at the officer who held the door for her as she walked in, hardly here to discuss the architecture of the place. She noted with maternal complaint that she could see Alex thriving in a place like this, and shook her head in amusement at the fact that of course she’d found herself a detective. Which was oddly enough the endeavor of today; to get to know the woman who attended herself to her oldest daughter and made her bloom in a way she hadn’t thought possible. “Ah, Detective!” she called out kindly as she spotted Maggie, figuring it was best to use the other’s rank within the walls; and never raising her voice. “I fear I’ve come to corner you. Alex told me this was your precinct,” she quickly explained, despite the phrasing unabashed.

THE small admittance is enough to bring a small smile to his lips. Any story regarding Kara and her childhood is something he’d always be willing to hear about but now it’s something else entirely. Inclusion? Trust? Whatever it was — it made Earth and the people around him feel like h o m e. ❝ I can only imagine the difficulty of trying to figure it all out at such a young age, ❞ he admits with an inclination of his head and a small wince towards the shattered glass. ❝ I’ve never done that while – ❞ Sober hangs off the tip of his tongue but for some reason there’s a small flush of embarrassment at the memory of breaking the glass in the bar. Mon-El instead focuses on her question, eyebrows furrowing ( it’s not an easy one to answer, once he manages to actually think about it ). ❝ Distracted is a very good way to describe it, ❞ the Daxamite offers a soft smile and diverts his eyes, shaking his head slightly as he absently scratches at his cheek. ❝ I just… Kara’s very lucky to have you as her Earth mother. ❞ The warm smile that crosses his lips is mean to be a distraction from his blatant deflection. Mostly, Mon-El can’t figure out what’s wrong or why he’s in this funk — it can’t be because he misses his parents ( he truly doesn’t ). But he can, for a brief moment, conclude that it does have something to do with Daxam.

Something that couldn’t replace someone else,” Eliza mused, bringing voice to what she’d always speculated; that Kara had eagerly accepted Alex into her life because her role as sister didn’t attempt to marginalize someone else before her. Alex had been the sister she never had, and thus, a sister that couldn’t replace a preexisting Kryptonian one. Skimming the lab report, she shrugged and put it back on the desk. She focused on Mon-El’s face, studying the uncertainty and trying not to made foregone conclusions of his words. “I try. It’s the best any of us can do,” she replied, quickly dismissing the deflection although he’d almost succeeded in bringing about an elaborate comparison. “She is also very lucky to have you, Mon-El. It might be difficult to gaze at the skies and see her being, well, HER, but you have to remember, she needs us as much as we need her. I suspect, in my scientific mind, that you’re the same.”
