What up, G!?

Things are looking up at Wrigley.

I first started watching baseball games because I wanted to see ONE home run, so I decided to watch a Cubs game one night.  But of course, it would take OVER A FULL WEEK of Cubs games to actually get to that point, since the Cubs, at the time, were having an incredibly LONG home run drought.. and thus, my journey as a Cubs fan started.  You know, It really wasn't a bad time to become a Cubs fan though, 2007.  It was 2007 when they actually won the NL Central division, which they then followed up the following year campaigning for the best record in the league.  LIFE WAS GREAT FOR A CUBS FAN.  They actually got me to join my high school softball team with absolutely NO experience. But, as I look back now, with the Cubs finishing up what would be their fourth of fifth consecutive losing season, I now realize HOW FREAKING PRECIOUS THOSE YEARS WERE.

WITH THAT SAID, I do know that things are changing.  I can't even begin to explain how excited I was when I heard that Tom Ricketts was hiring Theo Epstein.  EPSTEIN. This is the guy who gave the Boston Red Sox, not ONE, but TWO championships, after a really long championship drought..  The Red Sox' similarities to the Cubs were so many that it was hard for ANY Cubs fan to dream that he would do the same in Chicago.  I didn't know HOW he was going to do it, but frankly I didn't care, and I still don't.  I JUST WANT ONE.  But the only catch is, that it was going to take a LONG ASS TIME. 

WELL, THREE YEARS LATER, and I can finally see the light out of this extremely deep shit hole that the Cubs were stuck in.  Baseball is a weird sport, where it doesn't take a season to change a shitty team to a championship team, like how the NFL is.  Hell, like how the NBA is.. stupid Miami.  But I really do see the progress in the Cubs, and after following the team the last couple of years, I don't think I've ever been so excited for ANYTHING. Ever.  The way it was done was so methodical, and so GENIUS!!  The Cubs are doing CRAPPY right now, but soon the players that I'm really excited to watch, KRIS BRYANT, JAVIER BAEZ, ADDISON RUSSELL, ALBERT ALMORA, ETC., will be tearing the daylight out of Wrigley Field!  And you combine this with the coming Wrigley renovations that could bring revenue to the Cubs that could help them get even more stud players in the future? WELL, DAMN.

Yesterday, the Landmarks Commission, or whatever the hell they're called, accepted the proposed Wrigley restoration project (finally!!! FUCK YOU ROOFTOP OWNERS.)  This doesn't mean the rooftop owners won't sue, but it's SOMETHING.  This is ALSO the same day that Anthony Rizzo won the Final Vote ballot and will be representing the Cubs at the All Star game next week with Starlin Castro!! (#VOTERIZZO worked! WOOH.)  TO TOP IT OFF, one of these hyped Cubs prospects, Arismendy Alcantara, led the Cubs to VICTORY!!! It was a REALLY good day for the Cubs.

While I wait for the future glory days, maybe I'll take a trip down to Des Moines to see the kids.  Maybe even to Mesa, Arizona for spring training!  I don't have a problem listening to Cubs games on the radio while in the car, just because Pat Hughes is so great to listen to! Somehow he makes everything better through these dark Cubs seasons. You know you have a Hall of Fame announcer when he can do that.  Anyway, this post is really just for my fellow Cubs fans out there who understand what's going on with the club.  It really is hard to describe what the Cubs are doing to my friends right now since they're laughably GOD AWFUL (for now.)
