Prestel has reissued this visual archive of nearly 200 images of modern architecture by award-winning photographer Nicolas Grospierre in a new travel-friendly format.

Nicolas Grospierre’s Modern Forms project is being exhibited at NGV International as part of Melbourne Design Week and features brand new work taken by Grospierre in Australia. Presented as a series of geometric shapes, the bold architectural forms photographed by Grospierre are an expression of modernism’s achievements and failures in delivering a better world.

“Photographer Nicolas Grospierre’s Modern Forms, meanwhile, is a paean to an eastern European version of Modernism which, while not called Brutalism, certainly was. The east began to reconsider this architecture before the west, a phenomenon tied to the “Ostalgia” that emerged almost as soon as the Berlin Wall fell. Grospierre’s bleakly beautiful photos capture this ambivalence, while finding a surprisingly common architectural language in cities from Tel Aviv to Tbilisi.”
