âI like trouble. Itâs kinda my thing. Luck and unluck.â He said as he twirls his cane around before he smashed it against the ground. Well the bottom part.
"Fair enough." He personally didn't like leaving things to luck but to each their own suppose, especially if it was something that could be used to oneâs advantage. He smirked a little, one corner of his mouth curling slightly.
âJust keep in mind that Iâm not the type who feels like I have to repay that kind of stuff when you know what youâre getting into.â
âAnd why do you wish to stay out of their way? Are you afraid they might do something to you? And why get all nervous?â He asked as he walks closer to him. âDonât tell me your afraid of me now?â The man asked as he appeared next to him and whispered in his ear.
âHey, personal space!â He sidestepped away from the other, waving a hand in the space between his movement had made. âDonât mix up caution with fear. I donât delude myself by thinking theyâd just ignore what I do if they happen across it, and I prefer not putting myself in situations where Iâm outnumbered.â
This was why spirits of any kind were so annoying. They latched onto things they had no context for and pushed, usually until something gave. He wouldnât let this one get him off-balance, not when he needed to stick around to finish this nightâs harvest.
âYou wonât be. Trust me.â He said as he steps back and gives him his space,âand if that happens then Iâll help out. You I mean.â
âThatâs quite a promise.â He arced an eyebrow, not that it was very visible from beneath his fringe of hair.
âYou donât have a reason to do more than we traded for, not to mention if I get in that situation itâs likely that anyone willing to step up for me will also be in trouble.âÂ
A trap is laid for moonbeams in a place filled with their traces. -eleventhagent
A few unfortunately stray too close and are caught up, flickering and crying out in their own language for help.
âShh, donât panic now, itâs fine.â
Carefully he empties the trap is into an enchanted storm lantern traded from a fae for the express purpose. It might be a little less space than theyâre used to, but at least theyâre not separated.
Little by little, his list of items still needed grows shorter. Viva la Resistance.

âThatâs a piece of cake for me. I just need to get old nick drunk and he will speak like crazy.â He said with a smirk.
âSounds great! Just donât be too obvious about it - I just want some ahead warning, no need to make them suspicious.â
âIf you donât mind me asking. Why do you want this information?â He asked as he looks at him and crossed his arms.
âWhy? Because Iâm done underestimating the opposition.â He grimaced and licked his lips nervously, shifting weight from one foot to another.
âThe more I know about their comings and goings the easier itâll be to stay out of their way. Or at least Iâll have an ahead warning.â

âI work outside their little club. I have problems of my own. Plus I donât particularly work for anyone. He may have revived me but Iâm not his bitch.â He said as he slams his cane to the ground,âlike I said. I have my own issues. One of them is finding my killer.â
That sounded actually promising. Result of extraterrestrial meddling or not, this guy did have a right to be on Earth, and as such doing what he did best might not be out of the questionâŚ
âYour killer? I might be able to help with that. A little âyou scratch my back, I scratch yoursâ type of deal. Figuring out stuff is kind of a specialty.â
âDo tell what it is in for you?â Patrick asked as he looks at the man and slowly walks to him,âbecause last thing I remember was youâŚcritiquing my inhumanity.â
âAh, uh, sorry about that. I did warn you earlier about the whole foot in mouth thing, but it wasnât really meant as criticism. Just, one of the pretty key details about being human is mortality, and I get the vibe growing old isnât something you need to worry about anymore.â
That among other things, but he shouldnât really dig any deeper a hole for himself to fall in.
âI donât really want anything that big. You could easily keep enough of an eye on those moon-sworn guardians to be able to give me some warning whenever they seem to have something big going on. Youâre a similar type of being so it shouldnât be that much of a chore.â

âI wasnât trying to disguise myself first off, second, I am human. I was just reborn into the guardian of luck. My true name is Nicholas Leonard Patrick. I added the Saint part when I came back.â He explained as he sat down.
âNews flash - humans donât get reborn. Not into humans anyway.â He let out a dry, cynical laugh before gesturing upwards to the sky where thick clouds blocked the moon. (He wouldnât even be out here if the whole night wasnât supposed to be overcast - heâd learned the hard way where disregarding his paranoid ticks led.)
âYou say youâre a guardian. Please tell me youâre not affiliated with the ones that work for that whackjob on the moon?â

Patrick noticed the sand and rolls his eyes before he mutters,âshow off.â
Patrick then noticed a couple walking towards the pond. He takes his cane out and aims it at the couple before the cylinder part of the cane turns black and black dust shoots out. Hitting the man. Before long, the man fell into the pond with the girl and they started laughing before they look at each other and they kiss.
He watched the otherâs antics passively, even with some disappointment. He really should have just accepted the fact after hearing the name - when had he ever attracted anyone normal?
âSo youâre not a human after all. Good disguise, you managed to get me hoping that the name was just your parentsâ idea of a homage.â
Around them, attached to childrensâ windows all across the block, tiny mechanical dreamcatchers came to life one by one and began funneling minute threads of dreamsand away from the main flows.

âBloodied sky huh? Never heard of such an effect.â He said as he slowly stood up and groans as he cracks his back,âughâŚim getting old quicker then I thought.â He joked as he looks down at the man.
âAh, might be a different term in proper English, I never did bother to learn all the idioms. So many dialects of it all around the world.â He smiled, shrugging apologetically.
No sign of his target quite yet, but the night was still young. It would show up, just as soon as the children in the apartment complexes in the area started falling asleep. In the meanwhile he couldnât resist responding to Patrickâs joke with a grin.
âShould cut gown on all that wheat and get more fish in your gut before your back gives out, grandpa.â
âIâm not that old dear boy. But thank you for the advice.â He said as he laughs a bit and looks at him before looking around. Something seemed off.
âAnd I havenât been young enough to be a boy for a while, so guess that makes us even.â He laughed flippantly, eyes catching a flicker of something golden threading silently between the tall buildings.
Dream sand. It was slowly snaking its way from window to window, just a hair-thin thread for now, but soon there would be a lot more. The Sandman was hard at work, somewhere.
