Meredith was always someone Delilah admired and loved with every beat of her heart. The two were close since day one and even though, Meredith never said so, she know she was her favorite. Meredith was the main reason Delilah decided to move to New York. Meredith is a successful actress and Delilah want’s to become one too one day. As the brunette was looking at the ice rink, right after the competition she heard a familiar voice calling her so she glanced back to face Meredith. “Oh, isn’t it my favorite person calling my name?” The Brit said while smiling as she approached her aunt “I was just competing! Got third place but my roommate got the first place and beat a girl who was totally rude so I am happy! How are you, luv?”  

“Favorite person? I’m honored.” Not that Meredith didn’t already know that, she was flattered. Delilah was the loveliest. Such a sweet-natured person that it made her wonder how on earth they managed to be related. “I saw you! I’m so proud you, sweetheart. You were amazing.” She smiled, holding out the hot cup for the other. “Honestly, I’m incredibly impressed. I don’t even know how to skate properly, and god knows I’ve tried.” She supposed she could allow herself to suck at something. “How are you liking New York?”

Winter in New York always brought a smile to the director’s face. The city was always full of life, millions of people making their way through tight streets and toward their dreams, but with the twinkling lights and the faint scent of evergreen in the air the city took on a new sense of camaraderie and cozy warmth. It just felt like Christmas and for the first time in over a decade Meredith was there with him, taking in the sights and indulging in his need to always have a cup of hot chocolate in hand.

He hummed happily, his smile smug as he soaked in the sights that winter fest had to offer. He was glad that he had been able to convince her to come out with him, though the idea of staying in with her had almost been tempting enough for him to abandon his quest to show her off to the world now that they didn’t have to hide. “You’re single-handedly keeping Rold Gold in business,” He joked with a laugh, “do you think our little peach will come out asking for them or disgusted at the sight of them? My mother always said she couldn’t get enough watermelon when she was pregnant with me and we both know how I feel about that.” He said with an exaggerated scrunch of his face.

It was easy to joke about their child when they were like this, happy and together. It only got difficult when she fell asleep or had a meeting and he was left alone with his thoughts and a half-finished nursery.

He shook off his thoughts so that he could focus on the carriage in front of them, the white horses seeming a little bit cliché but undeniably intriguing, besides, he had never been one to deny Meredith much of anything.

“How could I possibly say no when you put it like that?” He asked with a wink before he turned toward the carriage driver to arrange their ride through the park.

“Ladies first, love.”

“You know what? I think I am. They should thank me.” The actress said in jest, her mischievous smile meeting her eyes. It was true. The amount of pretzels she’d consumed in the space of the past three or so months was impressive. She’d never been much of a fan of them until this pregnancy, and luckily she had a man who made sure she got her fix of the salty, crunchy heaven in a snack. “Really? I always thought Watermelon was your favorite fruit.” Of course these words were said as a joke -- she was well aware of Matty’s distaste for it. “I guess time will tell. I will make sure they try it once they’re old enough to eat it. I’m hoping they don’t like it so I won’t have to share.”

Truthfully Meredith had never felt more ready for anything in her life. Thankfully she had her daughter to thank for that, plus her age was a bonus. When Claudia came along, Meredith was a struggling actress at the cusp of her big break and she was thrown in the deep end with Julian as they were two very young, in love and clueless individuals unsure of how big of a deal their impending parenthood was.

When she got her yes, she flashed him a smile before offering a fainter one for the coach as she got herself into carriage. She waited for Matty then, shifting slightly, her right hand absentmindedly resting against her small bump.

Having their relationship and pregnancy out publicly was such a relief. She wasn’t sure how much longer she could keep herself from being able to tell the world just how in love she was. After decades of speculation, Meredith Roche and Matty Cooley were an item. Shamelessly so and as in love as ever.

Now throw a baby into the mix and just about everyone was thrilled with the announcement. Years of ‘will they or won’t they?’ could be tossed in the rubbish. Even if it took just over twenty years for it to finally happen, this was a love that was meant to be.

Strolling through Winterfest hand in hand with her beau, Meredith couldn’t think of anywhere she’d rather be. She rarely braved the crowds in the city for New Years, usually having plans of her own that involved working overseas or holidaying somewhere with her daughter. All were excellent ways to spend the time but something about celebrating the holidays and ringing in 2022 with the man she loved and their unborn child felt like bliss. 

“I’m glad you got me out. Otherwise I would have been sat in bed eating a whole packet of pretzels again.” She joked, turning to gaze upon Matty with an adoring look across her features. He was so wonderful in every single way, and sometimes she felt as though she didn’t deserve him. He was the nicest guy in Hollywood, meanwhile she was the ice queen with a look that could kill. He brought out the very best in her. She was truly the luckiest woman in the world.

Being pregnant again hadn’t been something she’d ever planned for, assuming she was done at one child, but she was over the moon about this baby. Her future with Matty and their baby was so bright and it left her giddy about what was to come.

Making the way through the crowds, the blonde noticed the carriage rides, stopping in her tracks for a moment before facing him. “How about a carriage ride, hm? That’d be romantic, don’t you think?” Grinning, she tugged him towards the available carriage. “And I need to sit down for a bit, I think.” Just over 14 weeks along, the fatigue was hitting her like a truck.

Two large cups of Hot Chocolate in hand, Meredith looked through the hordes of people to find a particular familiar face. Her niece, Delilah. She was thrilled to find out the young woman had made the move from London to New York, and having always been close to her, she knew it’d be fantastic to be able to have extra bonding time with her not only for herself, but for her daughter Claudia too.

After several moments of searching, her icy blue gaze caught sight of her. Finally. She didn’t think she could wait much longer to get into the hot chocolate, her winter coat and several layers of clothing still didn’t do too much to keep the New York chill from reaching her body. “Delilah!” The actress called out before quickly hurrying into her direction. “The line was ridiculously long, so these better be good. How are you, my darling?”

“You are lecturing me on dramatics? Really?” Provokes Julian, arching up his eyebrows while staring down at her. Out of the two of them, he would not be taking that crown. Not in this instance, at least. He could change his mind at a later one. He was, after all, dramatic. “I don't–” He begins, but she’s already removing the item from her neck. Reluctantly, Julian accepts it with a sigh. “Thanks.” Beginning to wrap it around his neck, he frowns dubiously at Meredith. “You’re overheating? That a pregnancy thing?”

Matty: Aww, why?

Matty: Is it because Dana offered you a job last time?

Matty: I think that was supposed to be a compliment, my love.

MEREDITH: I took it as a compliment!

MEREDITH: Truthfully I think I’m better than some of the dancers there anyway.

MEREDITH: Maybe when I’m not pregnant and feeling perpetually bloated. 😪

MEREDITH: I have to admit it is a lot of fun. Very sexy too.

Annoyance settled perfectly well on Julian’s slightly frozen features as he looks over at the blonde. Needless to say, he didn’t like to be questioned. Especially when it came to his dramatics. “I run hot, Meredith.” He explains sharply, resisting the urge to add on a quip about her knowing that very well with a hint of mischief that would’ve been just too dangerous. “I have a sensitivity to cold weather, so yes, I could be dying of hypothermia.” Still a long shot, but he’d be damned if he were to admit to it.

location: an elevator, 5pm

The weather had been bad when Meredith had arrived but now everything seemed intensified within the space of an hour -- the lightning was bordering on deafening and the sound of torrential rain pouring down broke the silence surrounding her, the claustrophobia setting in the very moment the elevator jolted suddenly. Out of all the things that could happen to her that evening, did being trapped with Julian Canova have to be it? It wasn’t that she didn’t like his presence, because she did... most of the time. Things had been purposefully distant recently, the only times they’d really ever cross paths was when the actress came to see their daughter, and to be honest, this distance lessened the tension when they did see each other, and with her pregnancy to Matty, she hoped things could remain this... relaxed. No petty arguments or incessant competing. Just two people co-parenting as best they can.

“Fuck.” She grumbled under her breath, a clenched fist banging onto the metal door, obvious that it had no hope of opening. They were stuck. Just their fucking luck. “I feel like I’m going to be sick.” She was never usually fazed by enclosed spaces, but mixed with her morning sickness and mood swings, she wasn’t in the right frame of mind to be there. All she wanted to do was go home to her other half.

“Are you getting any signal? I have none... at all. AT&T had one job. For fuck’s sake.”
