I’m a self-taught artist and currently do fanart mainly but I also like doing character design! Currently trying to learn how to use blender. Very scary :(

Scythe leaned over her lover’s sleeping form. They looked perfect, even with the soot stuck to their oily hair. And she was leaving them.
Scythe gave herself one last moment to remember every detail. The curve of their nose that Scythe would kiss after a hard day’s work, their beautiful ivory horns that she would help clean, and the peeling calluses on their fingers and palms that she shared.
The deserter stepped back, staring at the canvas of the tent. She turned to her sleeping daughter. Scythe was leaving her too. Her beautiful baby girl, hardly eleven and her home was gone. She took one last look at Beehive. Her horns that looked like bee antennae, her long soft curls that were crusted with mud, the tear stains… Oh Gods – She couldn’t leave her. Scythe couldn’t leave her baby! Her baby needs her Mama–
Scythe panickedly packed the few things Beehive still had – she had told the church that only she was coming. What if they turn both of them away? Or made her leave Beehive? No – she would make sure that her baby got a new life, one with fresh clothes and plenty of food. Shoving Beehive’s belongings into the remaining space of the bag Scythe had stolen specifically for this. Everything was quickly packed.
Before she could change her mind Scythe bent down to pick Beehive up – she couldn’t do that. She had lost her arm. She had lost her dominant arm in the Scorch and was stuck using her clumsy left arm for everything. Scythe gently shook Beehive.
“Mhm… Mama..?”
“Shhhh… I need you to put your boots on sweetie. And you can’t wake your Papa–” Scythe helped Beehive out of her hammock. Leaving a note for Grappling hook while she wasn’t looking. Her baby didn’t have to worry about that, they were going to a new home. A new life after theirs had gone up in flames.
Scythe urged her daughter forward. “Come on honey bee. Be good a good girl for me and hurry,”
“What – Mama where –” Beehive was only met with shushing and a hand over her mouth from her mother.
“It’s okay baby we’re… going to a new home. One like your old one. But we can only get there if you’re quiet as a mouse and follow me,” Scythe offered her only hand. Beehive took it.
Scythe dragged her out of the tent and out of their old life.

Sand shifted under their feet as Scythe and Beehive approached the figure holding the reins of two oziphrages – all clad in teal. After nearly an hour of hiking with only the feeble moonlight that filtered through the ash to guide their steps – their gateway to a new life was in sight.
“Come on Bee – hurry, hurry!” Scythe quickened her steps, pulling Beehive along. They could no longer turn back once they were in the figure’s sight.
The stranger had large, dark blue horns that jutted to the sides of their head before sweeping up and back into points. They wore a teal button up under a vest the same color as their horns. No jacket, nothing to protect them from the cold night air. It didn’t seem to bother them though. The strangler looked at the pair with their one organic eye with an unsettling smile.
“Oh, I was told that there would only be one! It seems I was mistaken!” They spoke in a jovial tone. “You can call me The Broker! He/him! You’re Scythe correct?” The Broker extended a hand to Scythe, she reached out to shake it.
“Yeah…”
He turned his unsettling gaze to Beehive, who was cowering behind her mother’s legs. “And the little one?”
Scythe nudged Beehive forward, she placed a hand on her back to keep her from hiding. “Beehive. This is my daughter Beehive,”
“It’s lovely to meet you Beehive!” The Broker tried to shake her hand, only for Beehive to curl up into herself.
“Come on, honey bee. Don’t be rude and shake Broker’s hand,” Scythe turned to address The Broker who was shaking a frightened Beehive’s hand. “Sorry she’s a bit shy… she’ll warm up to ya’,”
The Broker watched as Beehive retreated behind her mother again. “Don’tcha worry about it! Now come on!” He gestured to one of the ozipherages. “The sooner we leave, the sooner we can return to the family!” He jumped onto the other ozipherage.
Scythe’s shoulders relaxed. She didn’t have to fight to bring her baby. She helped Beehive up into the saddle, it was a bit tough with only her clumsy nondominant arm but Beehive got settled after a moment. Scythe quickly pulled herself up with the grace of someone who had done it for years.
Once Beehive was settled in front of her mother, Scythe gave a signal to The Broker who took off into the sky. Their oziphrage quickly followed suit and the ground quickly dropped away.
The cold night wind pulled at the loose strands of Scythe’s hair. If she closed her eyes, Scythe could pretend that she was simply taking a late night flight with Beehive. Maybe she was taking her out as a treat for her spawnday or Grappling Hook–... she shouldn’t think about them. She was flying to her new life and Grappling Hook wouldn’t be there.
Scythe brought her focus back to the present. That was how they would survive this. Forget the past, it didn’t matter anymore, all that did was their new family.
