Esteban Granero ( Pozuelo, Madrid, 1987) , alias El Pirata, is considered one of the most charismatic players in the Spanish league. Six months after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament, he has played a lot of rock & roll at home ( “test subjects of my friends”) , he is ready to play again, “I look better than ever, able to play at home without fear,” says exclusively for Rolling Stone.
-With six months out, what do you do?
To enjoy the solitude time with my girlfriend and other friends, also with books and records.
I have listened to the music of my friends, mostly. The Delantera Mítica of Quique González, and Leiva’s Pólvora, who were kind enough to send to me months before publication.
Less than I should. On a stretcher and exercising, it is hard to concentrate.
-You’ve been on many teams , which locker room was worse in listening to music?
I can not say one: Getafe was the Andalusian flamenco and not appealo me; Real is the rock in the traditional shows; The Queens Park Rangers was a nightmare. French songs with people shouting a lot and sounds very angry …
Too commercial for my taste.
-“The Pirate reads” ; “The Pirate listens music” ”weird” . Does it bother you? Xabi and you are special in footballers?
We are the few, but I believe we are not alone.

It is for aesthetics. Xabi and I are more alike in the way we dress, but Victor shares the similar musical tastes and he is a great guy.
-In Madrid, you were one of the most supportive mourinhistas. Why?
First, he is my coach and as a professional player, I have to go with him to death; and second, because I respect him. He is a coach like the top of a pine tree, who has gained a lot and evan if I was not with him.
Have conviction. That’s something few people holding. If more people convinced of their abilities, we would do better in life.
-Did you play in the Real Sociadad even though you had to reduce the salary?
I did it for the love. Talking to a club is like talking to a girl: eyes have to know with whom is watching you.
-Are you one of those who declare “anti-modern football”?
No. Football has changed and is now more commercialized, but in the UK, for example, it works as before. I am very romantic in all aspects of life.
-Where do you want to travel?
I would love to live in Donosti, it’s the early twentieth century… or the Russia of the Tsars.
-If you had the chance with the Delorean ‘Back to the Future’, what concert would you go?
-That you can go without Delorean, he is still active.
