Like many other POC, I have many friends of all races. And I appreciate the support of my closest and dearest, but I would urge ALL of our white counterparts (friends or not)... to do some of the work first before you want us to have a discussion. I'm not in the mood for comfort from White people, what I want is for you all to get your hands on a Tim Wise book, or The New Jim Crow book by Michelle Alexander or anything by James Baldwin. I need not to be consoled...I just need to know that you all see and recognize the bullshit and will call out those who refuse to see the urgency of our social and cultural affairs. If you really want to be helpful, speak up at work, don't entertain bad jokes (from anyone), remove the subtle language from your vocabulary like "..that's so ghetto ", do not ever ask to touch someone's hair...ever, purchase from Black business owners, when your job is looking for new hires ask if you can throw some good (diverse) names in, be the person in the room who raises the level of conduct and compassion when this subject is brought up.
