"If father ever mentions the concept of marriage to me again, I will not be held responsible for my actions." The remark is stated simply as if she had been remarking on the new drapes in the dining room, and with as little interest. As fact, and nothing less.

Was there ever a time when the very idea had not made her sick? She couldn't recall.

"I would have been just as capable as taking over the SDC without a husband."

"You still owe me a rematch."

The statement is sudden, coming with no particular pretense. Winter doesn't even seem to be focused on Qrow, her bright blue eyes looking out at the horizon as she speaks. Still, a well-trained eye will likely not miss the hint of a smile ghosting over her lips. "I'll go easy on you."

The lines between friend and foe are blurry, these days, and Winter cannot recall whether this one is among the list Weiss has insisted are trustworthy or not. It was so much easier when her world was simpler, and her trust was dictated by what uniform someone was wearing.

She won't pretend to remember the girl. It wouldn't be believable if she had.

"Is everything alright?"

She understood why there was this tension between her and Winter. She’d failed her children time and time again. Unlike Weiss and Whitley, Winter and her has a slightly better bond when Winter was young. When Willow had more fight and life in her. When she wasn’t so broken by life. 

But that was a long time ago. 

“What about? Has work been stressful?” Willow looked at the dying bloom in Winter’s hand. It looked like her rose bushes needed a trim. 

“Come, I think Klein has brought out a carafe of coffee,” 

"You should be dead-heading," comes the response, instead of any show of sincerity from the eldest daughter. Her mother was trying, wasn't she? So why was there such a reluctance in her to do the same, to show any opening or kindness to the woman?

She had tried, once. Back then, back when she showed those open emotions more easily. When honesty had not needed to be forced out of her.

I am however back in Canada again and am definitely down at being home. The depression is settling in slowly and deeply, but I'm gonna do my best to just throw myself into other things to keep my sanity in check.

But yeah I am alive!

Oh, and also engaged.

HIATUS INCOMING -- So, for those who are not aware, I've been spending the last six months with Mal in the states. However, my time is coming to a close and I have to go home in a handful of weeks. Between that, waning muse, and my usual bouts of seasonal depression, I just don't have a lot of will to be here right now. I will be back !! But probably after I get settled back at home.

In the meantime, I'm still seeing messages / tags over here, but I'm going to be super low activity. You can still find me over on @calledkore, where my muse seems to be focused right now. Just gotta do what I can for self care. Love y'all. ❤
