prompt 616
Write a paragraph that starts with the sentence:
If youâre not careful, lust will shred your mind.
(You can substitute another word for âlustâ, like greed, jealousy, fame, etc)
If you arenât careful whispers will shred your mind. Not the kind that you hear from those who live off gossip. Or the semi-loud giggling of girls without mercy. Although, most likely they arenât talking about you. Or the words spoken behind the backs of raised hands. Hands that are meant to shield the wordsâ delivery from the ears of everyone but the person sitting right beside the speaker. Or a softly spoken sentence in a pitch black room, as you were tip-toeing for a light-switch. Â Or an intentionally non-silent prayer for you that serves only to aggravate. No. The whispers that come from an unopened mouth. The whispers that creep from the front of the head and slowly grow to blanket the entire mind emboldened by their lingered presence. These whispers that come at the worst time on the best of occasions. That appear when you need them least even as you embrace them for the relief they give you. The ability to forever cut short the boldest of endeavors, they grow in frequency. The more often they are not just heard but listened to, the more they reoccur. Occurring enough times to become commandments. The kind of commandments that can find refuge in words like âcanâtâ âdonâtâ ânoâ âstopâ âlaterâ âmaybeâ âtoo tiredâ âin a bitâ ânext timeâ. The kind of whispers that turn lions into sheep, leadership to meekness, confidence to weakness. The kind of whispers that will be heard the moment you decide to start a journey, chase your destiny, or achieve.
