the phrase “curiosity killed the cat” is actually not the full phrase it actually is “curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back” so don’t let anyone tell you not to be a curious little baby okay go and be interested in the world uwu

Blood is thicker than water The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.
Meaning that relationships formed by choice are stronger than those formed by birth.
Let’s not forget that “Jack of all trades, master of none” ends with “But better than a master of one.”
It means that being equally good/average at everything is much better than being perfect at one thing and sucking at everything else. So don’t worry if you’re not perfect at something you do! Being okay is better!
These made me feel better
Also, “great minds think alike” ends with “but fools rarely differ”
It goes to show that conformity isn’t always a good thing. And that just because more than one person has the same idea, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a good idea.
what the fuck why haven’t i heard the full version to any of these
“Birds of a feather flock together” ends with “until the cat comes.”
It’s actually a warning about fair-weather friends, not an assessment of how complementary people are.
I’ve always felt like these were cut down on purpose.
While we’re at it:
It’s not better to marry than to burn, which implies “better to marry than to go to hell”.
It’s better to marry than to burn with passion, which is “better to marry than to not get laid”.
You’re welcome.
Clint: What a week, huh?
Natasha: Clint, it's Wednesday.
I am about to delete my AO3 account
Hello all. I know that some of the people that follow me might also have read my fic, so I wanted to say this on Tumblr before I do it.
On Wednesday 1 February 2017, I will be deleting my AO3 account, along with all associated stories, comment threads (on my fics and anyone else’s), kudos, and bookmarks. But I will still be on Tumblr. I am not vanishing altogether.
I’m sorry to be doing this. Fandom has been a wonderful experience, and has done some really great things for me, but ultimately it has done more harm than good, and at this point I really need to make sure that I make a clean break from it.
I won’t go into details if you don’t mind. But thank you to everybody who said nice things about my stories, and I wish you all the best of luck in the future.
If anybody has downloaded any of the stories on this account, I would also ask that you please not make them available anywhere else. After the 1st of next month, I want them gone, as in permanently. See ‘clean break’ above.
Thank you.

Everyone has a role to play in stopping sexual assault. Whether you do something drastic or simple, helping a friend or an absolute stranger can make a big difference.
Being a good bystander is not as hard as it might seem, and there are tons of ways to do it. To prove it to you, we’re teaming up with It’s On Us (@its-on-us) and Tumblr’s Post It Forward (@postitforward) to illustrate all the amazing ways people have stepped up for their friends.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be collecting your true stories of successful bystander intervention and will be asking you to create art that helps illustrate how someone can step in to stop sexual assault. From January 24 through January 31, we’ll be highlighting some of those submissions right here.
Want to participate and inspire others to step in? Share a story of when you or someone you know intervened.
You can also share your own story as an illustration or submit an illustration of one of the bystander stories collected by It’s On Us by January 23 for a chance to have your art featured on Tumblr. Submit here!
To learn more about It’s On Us and to join the movement to end sexual assault visit ItsOnUs.org.
A wonderful partnership, a great cause. Continue taking care of each other, Tumblr.
It’s New Year’s Eve and I have 666 kudos on AO3. Proof that the world will end with 2016? Stay tuned.
I now have 667. And it is 2017. The world has not come to an end. Who’d’ve thunk? Oh well, happy 2017.

Reblogging for that last comment.
If you think about it, the process of singing the birthday song and cutting the cake is extremely satanic
no but seriously imagine it this way
a small gathering of people huddle around a object on fire, chanting ritualistically a repetitive song in unison until the fire is blown out and a knife is stabbed into the object
you must be fun at parties

i put “All I Want for Christmas is You” through a MIDI converter, and then back through an mp3 converter
the result is this garbage
I’m driving myself up the wall because I swear I can hear the vocal line but I don’t know how that could be if it was truly converted to MIDI. Unless you can replicate speech sounds entirely with modulated MIDI notes, in which case I’m actually impressed with this tire fire of an MP3.
There’s actually science to why this works! Basically the scattering of notes is the best the midi program could make of the natural fluctuations in pitch when someone sings or speaks, down to minute changes in different vowels and consonants. The midi plays an exaggerated version of those fluctuations and your brain picks up on it! The fact that the song is so familiar only helps in that recognition. If you search “speaking piano” on youtube you can find another example of this phenomenon, taken from straight speech rather than a song. It’s really cool
find someone who’s never heard the original and make them listen to this

When I read that Lucy Liu played the accordion, I was like “yeah right!” But then I found these pictures and the following anecdote:
Greg Germann, who plays [Richard] Fish, Liu’s love interest on [Ally McBeal], is an accordion aficionado as well, so he was surprised to learn of his co-star’s interest. “What are the chances of that?” he says. “Then we found out we both study with the same teacher, Milton Mann, this incredible octogenarian who only has three or four students. Occasionally, we take our accordions down to her dressing room and play. It’s me trying to keep up with her — that’s generally how it goes.” [x]
I feel like I’ve fallen down into this strange and oddly hilarious rabbit hole.
you have no idea how happy this makes me

Joanlock ramblings on 5.03
Sherlock: Studies have shown that there are health benefits for men who reside in a state of sexless antagonism with a life partner.
Joan: Ah, then you’ll live to be a hundred.
——– Well. What do we learn here? That Joan considers Sherlock and herself to be life partners. That plus they way the line is delivered gives it a sit-com like retort quality - wife/husband banter.
Also, why did Sherlock bring up that study (if it even is a real study) - I doubt he believes Gregson and Paige’s relationship is or will be sexless. The only sexless couple (or so they’d have us believe) are Joan and Sherlock. Therefore, I think Sherlock also has just stated that he believes he and Joan are life partners and it’s healthy (for him at least).
I think the Details-like staging of the conversation, their playing ball rather than hitting each other, emphasizes their growth into a unit, their own “marriage,” their own commitment to each other. Sherlock has come to appreciate the importance of that bond between them and he wants the same happiness for Gregson and Paige.
Sherlock basically tells Gregson, marriage didn’t work last time for you, doesn’t mean it won’t work this time. He is sort of paraphrasing what Joan told him when urging him to pursue a relationship with Fiona.
I could worry about this whole scenario, thinking the writers are planting seeds to bear fruit later in terms of Sherlock proposing marriage to Fiona. But a) rarely do the writers follow thru on these sort of details and b) Fiona was not even indirectly mentioned in this episode, or any episode so far this season. Of course, they can always pull a Mycroft(yech) and retrofit the story to suit their needs …
Anyway, long story short, this is what these past two episodes have given me: Sherlock Holmes and Joan Watson are a package deal, they are life partners - you can’t have Holmes without Watson or Watson without Holmes. I know are rough patches ahead but they’ll work it out together, they always do.
PS: PLEASE do not attach any Fiona hate to this entry!
