I know this is not really the place for this, but I am in desperate need of help. On July 3rd a storm came through and knocked out the power for an entire night and day. We are currently experiencing a heatwave. At this time, I was doing everything I could to get my rat Dust somewhere cool because the temperature became far too hot for him (85°f, 29°c). No family was available to help out and I did not have any friends who still had power.
I ended up having to resort to finding a hotel room to bring Dust to. Because of the holiday, hotel room fees were insanely expensive. I was only able to find a single open room at a single open hotel. It cost me $342 for one night. Fortunately the power was restored during the night while I was there.
This was the last of my remaining money and I am unemployed. Dust is my everything. I will do anything in my power for him because I've never loved anything in life as much as I love this little rat. That's why I sat on my porch with him where it was cooler on the first night and didn't sleep at all. And that's why I booked the hotel room for him as soon as my phone had charge. I love him more than anything.
That being said, I am currently scrambling to find money in any way that I can. I will be searching for quick work and trying to sell some belongings even while this ko-fi is up.
If you have anything to spare, I ask that you please consider helping out. I know it is pathetic to come online asking for money but I am panicked. I just need enough to afford his food, bedding, and medicine for however long until I can find a steady income.
I am so sorry, and thank you.
A little info on Dust. He is 2y and 3mo old. He is solo because of aggression towards other rats not resolved by neuter. I know rats are not supposed to be alone. For a while I contemplated humane euth, if that would be kinder to him than being without a rat companion. But he did not want to go. He did not show any signs of distress or depression, so I pushed back the appointment. His behavior never did change. He remained the happy, energetic little sweetheart he always was. And now he's made it beyond the average rat's lifespan, and made it through this horrible situation with the power. I am so thankful for him. I am so glad he is okay.
