And it's that I have a fanon idea of how their dynamic works which is nothing like how it would play out in canon.

I thought I was staying close enough to the canon, but alas I was lost.

But, that's okay. I can have my fanon where they're addicted to each other and my canon where they're very back and forth if that makes sense.

Like, Omens Arc Frank doesn't always act like how canon Frank would to certain scenarios. But that's okay.

I suppose this is one of the many great revelations one has while writing fanfiction: that you don't always have to adhere to the canon details to write your fanfiction. The plot isn't canon, so why should the characters be?

For example, in the Arcane fandom, the number of people who headcanoned Viktor as trans TRIPLED after he became this inhuman being without male genitalia, so far as to refer to him with she/her pronouns and call him a woman.

This is transphobic. Your genitals do not determine your gender or pronouns.

Another instance is with yaoi and yuri couples, where the one deemed more feminine or masculine respectively is headcanoned as trans while the other partner isn't (or not nearly as much).

This is borderline transphobic, as it relies on stereotypes and bioessentialism.

People do this with race too. When an inhuman character acts more sassy, loud, tough or aggressive, they're significantly more likely to be headcanoned as black as opposed to their softer, less aggressive counterparts.

This is racist. I don't even have to tell you why.

It bothers me so much when obvious signs of bigotry are accepted because on the surface it looks diverse and loving.

TO BE PERFECTLY CLEAR, I DO NOT WANT US TO STOP HEADCANONING TRANS OR BLACK CHARACTERS. I want us to stop relying on incorrect stereotypes and biases to guide them. These are just trends I've noticed in online fandom spaces that bother me so freaking much and I feel like I'm going crazy because I don't see anyone else talking about it.
