the people's heroes by Ee Shawn Via Flickr: The Chairman Mao Memorial Hall is located in the middle of Tiananmen Square, Beijing. Despite his wish to be cremated, Chairman Mao Zedong's body was embalmed and displayed in a glass case within the mausoleum. Construction started shortly after his death and was completed less than a year later on 24 May 1977. People throughout China were involved in the construction and materials from all around the country were used throughout the building.

Built in 1989, the 305.5-metre tall tower houses an observation deck, a rotating restaurant and a bar. Located next to a small park, cherry blossoms bloom during early spring, adding a delightful pink due to the city skyline.
