...poggers.
I FINALLY got new LED bulbs for my tank to replace the incandescent ones that came with the hood, and I am ASTOUNDED by the difference! :O (old is top pic, new is bottom!)
I had never thought too much about the type of lighting for the tank, as most of my plants are Anubias which have been doing fine for years! But Iām excited to see if this helps with growth in any way!
Lance spent the first few days after the switch trying to fight his reflection haha, but heās gotten used to the lighting and has chilled out a bit! xD

please just hold still for three whole seconds
Iām always so delighted when I manage to catch a bird yawn on camera
You missed a spot!
Here's a picture of my first ever attempt at a nature aquarium (had no idea aquascaping was a thing back then) It held my Spanish ribbed newts (pleurodeles waltl) I think I was 10 when I made this aquarium, and it was pretty shitty, atleast I did a lot of water changes but all the plants died, had the newts for absolute ages so I guess I got their care right atleast. I stopped and sold everything when i was 15ish years old and started again at age 22 with just some red cherry shrimp.
2,5 years after starting the hobby and learning a lot about aquascaping, golden ratio's, water parameters, lighting, keeping plants healthy, animal care. Just tying to learn everything in general, resulted in my latest aquascape and its a world of difference.
Now I'm not saying if your aquarium looks like my first that yours is bad or ugly, not at all. I just prefer the second and I thought it would be a nice comparison to show the difference in effort and knowledge. (this post its about the aquascaping aspect of keeping aquariums)
Also what did your first aquarium look like? Show me if you got picture's :D

When people try to argue against big tanks for Bettas becauseĀ ātheir fish got stressed in a big tankā and they had their fish in something like this
When they should have been in something like this:
Bettas are not stressed by large tanks. They are stressed by too much open space. They come from large floodplains and rice paddies, that are thickly planted but can reach 5 feet deep, and several hundred kilometers long. Itās not that difficult to throw a bunch of plants into a tank. Itās neglect for self amusement if you house them incorrectly on purpose, instead of doing all you can to better them.Ā
I never posted the finished result!
Found this incredibly funny but also educational. Donāt put your betta fish or ANY fish in a bowl. Minimum 5 gallons yāall!! If you canāt afford the minimum requirements, donāt get the pet šš¾šš¾šš¾šš¾ Im not being insensitive, pets are a luxury and if you canāt afford the things they need, you are torturing that animal.
My father built me a custom cage for Ziva this year for my birthday. Iām quite happy how it turned out. Itās 48inches long, 19inches deep and 26inches tall. Ideally I wanted to go 6 feet long by 2feet wide and 2 feet tall, but the house I live in has a hallway that would not allow me to get a cage with those dimensions into my room, and since Ziva loves climbing more than anything, we made sure to give her lots of room to do so.
I still need to install her hammocks and a few other climbing things, but for now this is where I am at.
She herself is a small dragon, not even 15 inches long, tips the scale at 210 grams on a good day. Her vet thinks since we donāt know her past sheās possibly stunted.
With this new cage thereās no screen to block any of her UV lighting and Iām very excited about that.
I do plan at some point to somehow also install a dig box for her as well I just need to figure out what I want to do for that container wise.

One of my favorite NANFs, the Sheepshead Minnow is very adaptable and very interesting behaviorally. A species of Pupfish, family Cyprinodontidae, they can actually live in water that has salinty 6 times that of the ocean.

The Navajo Nation and Hopi Reservation are extreme food deserts with only 9 g⦠Ethel Branch needs your support for Navajo & Hopi Families CO
āThe Navajo Nation and Hopi Reservation are extreme food deserts with only 9 grocery stores on Navajo to serve some 180,000 people and only 1 grocery store on Hopi to serve some 3,000 people. These communities also have high numbers of elderly, diabetic, and cancer-afflicted (i.e., high risk) individuals. These communities could be devastated by coronavirus and COVID-19. We want to help these individuals, especially the elderly and families with children, to gain access to the food and water (1/3 of Navajo residents do not have running water) they will need to weather this pandemic. The need is so great. Navajo regularly has roughly 50% unemployment (most of the residents are elderly or children; those who can work often leave the Nation to find jobs), and Hopi seems very similar though I donāt yet know their stats. Families from both tribes were just hit hard financially by the closing of Navajo Generating Station. Hundreds of jobs were lost, and the tribes themselves have lost revenue that could be used to assist tribal members. Please give if you can. Our goal will be to help the elderly (especially those raising their grandchildren), single parents, and struggling families by helping them buy groceries, water, and health supplies, and by protecting them (and their vulnerable communities) from exposure by engaging volunteers to make the purchases and deliver them to a safe transfer location for the families.ā
Now is the time to come together and assist those that need it most.Ā
