It makes me sad when I look at Ace Attorney fandom stuff from 10-15 years ago and see how much more comparatively chill and accepting they were of different ships from the most popular ones back then. It wasnāt perfect or free of discourse, obviously, but at least fans could mostly get away with shipping that stuff without getting called horrible people, unlike today where the Ace Attorney fandom is determined to bully anyone who dare ship the Unacceptable Stuffā¢ļø out of the fandom (ESPECIALLY on aatwt my goodness). I know this isnāt just me because Iāve seen even certain older fans note this and say stuff like āWow Iāve been in the Ace Attorney fandom for years and back then there used to be so many Narumayos and ppl who shipped so-and-so in het Iām so glad these are no longer acceptable weāve come so farā WRONG. The fandom has turned into a hivemind who think itās acceptable to unperson others over ships and will sooner sympathize with one who harasses another over a Bad Ship than the one getting harassed because how dare they ship outside the sacred stuff. You really think itās a good thing the AA fandom environment has gotten tyrannical about what youāre allowed to ship? Old Ace Attorney Shipping Fandom was FAR from perfect, but if your reasons for why it was bad or worse than now are āships I dislike were allowed to existā hoooooo boy.
Well said. Back in the days, i feel like internet was also a different kind of place. You could be cringe and ship whatever you want without nobody telling you what to do. Performative activism wasn't at its peak yet : now if you like a hetero ship you are probably homophobic (no joke, i've seen ppl calling narumayo and shippers homophobic on twitter)
Same goes to cykesquill while aurametis is depicted as superior : "why would you ship this when you can ship this???" Oh i don't know, maybe because we are all different? maybe the world doesn't have to cater to your likes? maybe it's time TO GO OUTSIDE and see how is the āØļøreal worldāØļø

Ultimately, I believe ace attorney is a tale about love. How far are you willing to go for the people you love? But also, how far are you going to fall for them? Most of this love is platonic, not even romantic in nature / could or could not be seen as such, but really the crux of the matter is that regardless, it all stems from a place of deep affection and/or adoration. Phoenix both became a better person but sacrificed and risked so much because of love, even compromising his integrity and morality at some point. First love for his lost friend, then love for a girl who made him feel adored, then love for his lost mentor and her sister which he couldn't leave alone, then love for a child he needed to provide for. Miles completely and utterly destroyed himself but later glued back the pieces together in order to become better because he felt guilty for his beloved father's death, and later felt guilty for disgracing his legacy. But also his love for his friends and family gave him courage to make himself better. He charters private jets at the drop of an hat and surrenders his badge and breaks the law if need be. Franziska's love for her father made her ruthless and amoral, but her love for her little brother made her a better person. She assists in his and Phoenix's absurd plan to play at defense attorney, helps save Maya, then assists Miles in his cause for Kay. Lana's love for her sister made her throw her morals out the window, ruining the life of many people. But her love for her little sister also made her realize her mistakes and atone for them. Iris loved her sister despite it all and that corrupted her into betrayal, but she also loved Phoenix, and that gave her the courage to realize her mistakes and atone for them. Love is the reason for most plot points - it leads the storyline. It can cause both positive and negative outcomes and I really appreciate the realism in that. The characters truly care for each other, there's just so much love in AA.
It's not pedophilia or inherently predatory to ship an adult woman character with an older adult male character.

I absolutely love that rivalry dynamic with both of them testing each other only to bring the best of them. Edgey learning how to trust again thanks to Phoenix. Phoenix having support from the best prosecutor out there... yeah I'm a big sucker for good development character.

Well I feel personally attacked! /j Honestly harassment isnāt cool especially towards shipping. I dislike Cykesquill because Simon and Athena are siblings to me and Simon knew Athena when she was 11, a minor. That being said I know that most Cykesquill shippers disagree and thatās fine. I have read a couple of really good Cykesquill stories and I enjoyed them. I still do dislike the ship though.
