         (    ↻    )    vivienne taps her index finger against her bottom lip as she observes both pieces that aria just presented her with.  “  hmm  …  ”  she hums lightly,  head tilting to the side.  “  i totally get what you mean like the red does scream christmas party but the black is a little more versatile and understated. i want to be an enabler and tell you to get both but how experimental are you feeling  ?  i think the red would look so good. and i think you could make it work outside a christmas party setting. red isn’t just reserved for the holidays,  y’know  ?  ”

as  vivienne  talks  ,  aria  turns  herself  back  to  the  mirror  ,  holding  up  each  top  as  if  the  constant  swapping  will  make  it  easier  for  her  to  decide  .  "  you're  a  bit  of  an  enabler  ,  do  you  know  that  ?  "  she  teases  ,  a  laugh  pushing  past  her  lips  as  she  once  again  turns  to  face  her  friend  ,  tucking  both  hangers  under  her  arm  so  she  can  continue  to  browse  the  rack  for  some  pants  to  go  with  them  .  "  i  might  repurpose  it  for  one  of  those  little  christmas  events  in  town  this  weekend  ,  i  heard  something  about  a  holiday  sweater  contest  ?  if  those  jumpers  are  decorated  anything  like  the  way  some  people  have  their  houses  then  i  think  we'll  be  in  for  quite  the  treat  ⸺  are  you  going  to  anything  ?  maybe  i  can  come  pick  you  up  and  we  can  grab  lunch  and  carpool  or  something  .  .  .  or  does  that  make  me  sound  way  too  much  like  a  suburban  mum  .  .  .  "

he  can’t  help  but  laugh.  he’ll  admit  he  didn’t  really  mean  a  walk,  but  he  had  figured  aria  would  have  guessed  it  would  be  more  of  a  run  based  on  calum’s  outfit—his  brooks  running  shoes,  the  running  shorts  (  despite  the  cooler  temperature  ),  and  the  nike  dri-fit  shirt.  doug,  his  russet  golden  retriever,  is  happily  running  beside  them.  “what  even  is  hot  plates?”  he  asks  between  breaths, glancing over at the redhead beside him.

"  hell  on  earth  ,  honestly  the  only  reason  i  go  is  so  i  feel  like  i  have  a  good  enough  reason  to  not  have  to  do  stuff  like  this  ,  "  the  stuff  in  question  is  implied  by  the  way  she  struggles  to  both  keep  her  pace  and  speak  while  not  sounding  like  she's  basically  gasping  for  air  .  she  follows  just  barely  behind  calum  for  a  few  more  steps  ,  once  steady  run  now  dulling  into  more  of  a  speed  walk  as  her  stamina  starts  to  fade  .  "  okay  wait  ,  wait  .  .  .  let's  take  a  break  for  a  second  ,  do  you  really  wanna  pass  up  this  view  ?  "  she's  not  even  being  entirely  dramatic  when  her  feet  finally  stop  in  their  tracks  ,  hands  on  her  hips  as  if  they'll  aide  her  in  catching  her  breath  while  her  eyes  dilate  at  the  setting  sun  perfectly  balanced  on  the  distant  mountain's  snow  covered  peak  .  "  ooh  ,  maybe  instead  of  hot  pilates  i'll  be  nice  and  make  you  exercise  with  me  over  there  somewhere  ,  "  she  says  ,  head  nodding  in  the  general  direction  of  the  mountains  .  "  have  you  ever  been  ?  like  ,  snowboarding  i  mean  .  "

🖌    “   eh   .   ”   he   didn't   see   the   need   to   say   she's   welcome   ,   it   was   heavily   implied   as   one   of   the   pros   of   having   andré   as   a   friend   .   he'd   always   been   an   acts   of   service   kind   of   guy   .   “   alright   ,   let's   not   get   cocky   .   plus   ,   when   have   i   ever   not   listened   to   you   ?   ”   thinking   about   it   for   a   couple   seconds   ,   the   only   times   that   came   to   his   mind   were   the   ones   where   their   opinions   diverged   .   and   ,   most   of   the   times   ,   he'd   change   his   mind   during   those   discussions   and   agree   with   her   ,   but   continue   to   defend   his   original   point   only   to   be   annoying   .   “   o - kay   ,   first   off   :   i   would   never   do   that   drunk   .   i   did   ,   however   ,   intend   to   do   it   fully   sober   .   still   do   .   you   can't   take   that   away   from   me   .   ”   and   there   it   was   ;   an   example   of   a   moment   in   which   andré   would   not   listen   to   aria   .   “   plus   ,   what's   the   fun   of   having   a   bunch   of   drunk   people   in   the   same   room   if   you're   not   giving   them   the   opportunity   to   act   stupid   ?   which   reminds   me   :   karaoke   .   ”   yeah   ,   they   needed   a   full   on   karaoke   room   .   he   frowned   at   her   question   .   “   well   ,   obviously   .   and   you   act   like   that's   not   something   you   see   every   time   you're   at   the   house   .   they're   just   abs   ,   they   can't   hurt   you   .   ”   he   jokingly   slapped   his   abdomen   ,   a   little   harder   than   intended   and   then   spent   the   next   few   seconds   trying   not   to   let   it   show   that   he'd   felt   a   small   bit   of   pain   . 

all  she  can  bring  herself  to  do  is  roll  her  eyes  ,  can  already  picture  having  to  try  and  talk  a  drunk  dre  out  of  risking  his  life  trying  to  slide  down  the  stairs  on  a  mattress  .  "  i'll  be  sure  to  have  a  doctor  on  speed  dial  just  in  case  ,  "  her  words  appear  playful  ,  but  she  does  make  a  mental  note  to  remember  the  name  of  that  emergency  medicine  doctor  her  dad  had  a  connection  with  at  uw  ,  just  in  case  .  mention  of  karaoke  makes  her  groan  with  displeasure  ,  "  karaoke  ?  i'm  starting  to  think  you  don't  even  want  me  there  ,  "  she's  usually  not  this  much  of  a  hater  ,  but  karaoke  mixed  with  ,  knowing  dre  ,  an  open  bar  ,  sounded  like  one  of  her  worst  nightmares  come  to  life  .  "  karaoke  can  be  fine  so  long  as  it's  outside  ,  or  in  a  room  on  the  opposite  side  of  the  house  so  it  doesn't  mash  up  with  whatever  other  music  you  and  asa  are  playing  ,  "  a  hand  reaches  up  to  scratch  her  head  just  as  andre  smacks  his  own  abs  ,  a  laugh  much  louder  than  she  intended  escaping  her  mouth  just  before  she  slaps  her  hand  over  it  .  "  abs  of  steel  ,  huh  ?  "  she  teases  ,  already  pulling  up  her  phone  to  see  what  kind  of  cute  pajama  sets  she  can  find  online  .  "  maybe  me  ,  you  and  asa  can  wear  matching  pjs  ,  we  can  get  some  shorts  with  giant  a's  on  the  ass  ⸺  oooh  wait  .  .  .  that  could  be  cute  ,  actually  ,  maybe  we  can  get  some  slippers  too  "  and  just  like  that  ,  she's  already  scouring  etsy  in  a  frenzy  .  "  should  it  be  ,  like  ,  three  a's  on  all  of  them  ,  or  just  one  on  each  ?  "

“you  just  looked  so  busy  and  into  whatever  you  were  typing  away,  i  didn’t  want  to  disturb  you,”  he  teases  right  back  with  a  small  smile.  as  they  walk,  he  slides  his  hands  in  his  pockets,  removing  one  to  press  the  button  to  call  the  elevator,  only  to  return  it  a  moment  later.  “gyros  have  pita  bread,”  he  confirms  with  a  nod.  “my  favorite  one  is  lamb  with  feta,  onions,  and  tomato.  you  also  have  to  put  the  fries  on  the  sandwich,  too.”  his  stomach  is  grumbling  at  the  mention  of  the  sandwich.  “well,  falafel  uses  pita  too,  i  think,”  he  adds  a  moment  later.  now  that  he  thinks  about  it,  calum  isn’t  sure  he’s  even  ever  tried  falafel.  he  isn’t    sure  he  even  knows  what  it  is.  they’re  out  on  the  street  now  and  calum’s  bringing  a  hand  up  to  shield  his  eyes  and  he  looks  both  ways  before  determining  the  correct  direction.  “like  alcoholic  cider?  or  do  you  mean  apple  cider  flavoured  treats?  WAIT.  there  was  this  place  i  saw  that  was  selling  apple  cider  donuts.  we  have  to  go  there.”

"  so  basically  ,  you  don't  know  ,  "  can't  help  but  tease  him  a  little  as  he  stumbles  over  his  thoughts  ,  hand  mirroring  his  in  lifting  to  shield  her  eyes  from  the  sun  that  somehow  seems  brighter  against  the  cement  of  the  sidewalk  .  "  well  ,  we  definitely  can  find  alcoholic  cider  but  i  was  talking  about  those  apple  cider  donuts  ,  too  .  i  looked  it  up  ,  it's  not  too  far  of  a  walk  from  here  .  .  .  or  maybe  we  could  go  get  our  gyros  and  then  walk  back  and  you  can  drive  us  to  the  donut  place  ,  "  she  turns  to  look  at  him  ,  a  smile  spread  across  her  face  that  tells  him  no  matter  what  he  has  to  say  ,  he's  going  to  be  driving  to  that  donut  shop  .  "  have  you  even  eaten  today  ?  i  wasn't  sure  if  you  were  ,  like  ,  on  call  or  something  when  i  texted  ,  i  feel  like  you're  rarely  off  in  the  middle  of  the  day  like  this  ⸺  it  was  a  pleasant  surprise  ,  "  she  says  ,  following  his  direction  to  their  lunch  .

distaste becomes evident on thaddeus' expression, something which he neither considered veiling or softening since arriving ten minutes before. instead, he stands there with an outward sense of doubt as his peripheral follows the organized commotion around them, his uncertainties growing every time a passing crew member plugs one thing in  &  unplugs another. what was this all for? sure, aria explains the concept of whatever production this podcast of hers may be, thaddeus half recalling the detailed emails margaret had prepared him with prior  &  the other half questioning the fine print, but the technical definition of a podcast is audio recordings. he at least researched that much. so why are these people making a show of it? why the spectacle beyond the nature of what a podcast is traditionally meant for?  “define what good press is to you  &  i'll define what podcast means to webster's dictionary,”  thaddeus smoothly replies, the clasped hands behind his back tightening their hold as his shoulders square  &  his gaze meets margaret who had entered from the side. she gives him a look full of warning  &  thaddeus can only turn his attention away, eyes landing on the laptop aria scrolls through as though he has an inkling of what's on there. he doesn't.  “regardless,”  throat clears  &  he steps toward what he assumes will be his chair, hands unclasping to splay over the back of it,  “i am here. and we are on schedule. my time is as valuable as yours, so whatever was agreed upon before my arrival should remain as planned,”  he nods,  “i will do the interview.”

it's  almost  like  the  universe  is  torturing  her  with  the  impossible  task  of  not  rolling  her  eyes  .  she  wasn't  sure  what  to  expect  ,  but  surely  didn't  assume  him  to  be  this  pretentious  .  peripheral  view  watches  as  he  surveys  the  area  around  him  ,  a  passing  thought  making  her  wonder  if  he  was  always  like  this  ,  or  if  this  behavior  was  brought  out  by  the  fact  that  he  was  in  an  environment  outside  of  his  terrain  .  "  you're  the  one  stalling  ,  sit  down  and  we  can  get  started  as  soon  as  everything's  tested  and  ready  to  go  ,  "  eyes  finally  look  up  from  over  her  laptop  ,  hand  reaching  out  to  grab  her  mug  of  tea  and  take  a  sip  while  the  first  portion  of  their  meal  is  wheeled  in  on  a  tray  and  placed  in  front  of  them  .  "  and  for  your  information  ,  podcasts  include  audio  and  video  now  ⸺  come  out  from  your  dungeon  every  once  in  a  while  ,  "  her  sentence  trails  off  just  as  her  production  crew  gives  her  the  signal  that  they've  begun  recording  ,  her  head  nodding  towards  the  chair  thaddeus  is  leaning  on  the  back  of  . "  please  ,  sit  ,  "  she  encourages  ,  waiting  a  brief  moment  to  wait  for  him  to  do  so  before  smiling  at  him  ,  giving  him  a  warm  introduction  into  the  mic  .  "  before  we  get  too  carried  away  ,  let's  start  with  our  appetizer  ,  "  perfectly  on  cue  ,  hands  from  her  production  team  remove  the  cloche  from  atop  their  plates  to  reveal  a  beautiful  arrangement  of  baked  brie  with  honey  and  thyme  along  with  soft  ,  fresh  bread  for  them  to  eat  it  with  .  "  you're  a  bit  of  an  underground  seattle  entrepreneur  ,  i'd  say  .  i've  done  my  research  ,  but  the  more  i  read  the  more  i  just  found  myself  curious   on  what  exactly  house  of  yes  is  ,  and  how  you've  curated  that  space  now  that  it's  under  your  management  .  "

✒    he   sat   back   down   after   returning   with   her   cup   ,   placing   it   gently   in   front   of   aria   .   needless   to   say   ,   that   wasn't   the   only   thing   he   brought   .   there   were   now   two   croissants   on   their   table   as   well   ,   that   he   couldn't   help   but   buy   once   finding   out   they   were   fresh   out   the   oven   ,   steam   still   visibly   coming   out   .   “   wait   ,   you're   a   genius   .   a   new   year's   pajama   party   would   bang   .   make   it   like   that   one   scene   in   the   princess   diaries   .   and   maybe   turn   it   into   an   actual   pajama   party   with   mattresses   and   all   for   people   to   sleep   over   if   they   don't   wanna   go   home   while   drunk   or   can't   find   a   designated   driver   .   ”

"  oooh  ,  thank  you  ,  "  pleasant  surprise  of  a  freshly  baked  croissant  brings  a  smile  to  aria's  lips  ,  carefully  pulling  apart  the  layers  as  steam  seeps  through  the  cracks  .  "  see  what  happens  when  you  listen  to  me  ,  i'm  full  of  great  ideas  ,  "  it  almost  brings  her  too  much  joy  to  be  right  ,  blowing  on  her  croissant  before  she  takes  a  bite  .  "  i  think  the  mattress  thing  is  a  good  idea  but  you  also  need  to  be  careful  of  drunk  idiots  ,  such  as  yourself  ,  trying  to  slide  down  the  stairs  on  a  mattress  surfboard  ,  that  sounds  like  a  lawsuit  just  waiting  to  happen  ,  "  she  could  picture  it  too  clearly  ,  her  head  shaking  at  the  thought  .  "  but  ,  as  long  as  you  keep  most  of  the  mattresses  ,  like  ,  in  rooms  ,  it  should  be  alright  .  but  i  do  think  they're  a  good  idea  instead  of  people  trying  to  buy  those  hundred  dollar  ubers  to  travel  two  miles  after  midnight  ,  "  she  says  ,  unfortunately  speaking  from  experience  .  "  ugh  ,  if  we  have  a  pajama  party  are  you  gonna  be  walking  around  with  your  shirt  off  all  night  ,  "  honestly  ,  she  wouldn't  be  surprised  to  see  that  even  if  it  wasn't  a  pajama  party  ,  but  at  least  this  time  she'll  know  to  expect  it  .
