Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā this particular camera, his first and favourite, was rescued out of one of his brothersā boxes in the attic. when he was the only child living at home, he got to spend more time exploring his family through their things. the dining room was the only place they all gathered as ONE, but jude cannot recall aĀ s i n g l eĀ decent conversation that didnāt pertain to politics, school or what the neighboursā kids were up to. ā funny how thatās a universal experience, HILARIOUS: kids learning to determine their worth based on how well their competition fared ;Ā not on ones own accomplishments, but on their failures.
there are so many stories that old boxes will tell you better than the people themselves. and now his own boxes have joined the lot. as much as he tries to recall, he canāt remember what secrets he has left behind for someone else to discover. heās mostly worried about the box of scraps and old photographs that he seems to have LOSTĀ just before he could pack them up. nothing too concerning, except for if it gets into the wrong hands. some ripped out journal entries ā notĀ ā much. ā
he isnāt as skilled as his more talented brother, but maybe the reason why he obsessed with cameras so much was that roman would BOND with him over his curiosity. one simple question turned into a full blown obsession when he was rewarded with a siblingās attention. if he got lucky, roman would even ask him to tag along so he can hold up reflectors. the only time jude, or any of his brothers bonded with each other, was over their fatherāsĀ Ā d i s a p p r o v a l. such as things that are not REAL jobs, like photography and clinical counseling.
What was it that he said about counselors? The lunatics that parents send their kids to when they go āĀ out of control. ā A jab at his own sonās dossier of psychiatric evaluations. so naturally, the MORE that senator kane hated it, the more jude wanted it. the camera meant so much to him for many reasons, but most of all, itĀ wasĀ a symbol of his brotherās defiance, one that he looked up to. there was some sentimental value to his possession, but jude was barelyĀ letting go of it. he trusted woojin enough to let him borrow it, try it out. thatās better than it collecting dust.
Ā Ā Ā Ā ā you wouldnāt be taking away much from me. besides, iām just loaning it to you, like how youād borrow a library book. ā
woojin might be one of the only few people he GENUINELY enjoys the company of ( even in their shared silence ) and trusts without any reservations. none that he can think of, anyway. thereās no specific reason why, if heās asked to explain, and he canāt simply fall back on the reasoning that itās a trust built over years of knowing each other. but maybe itās woojināsĀ own confidence in him that he feels equally obliged to return ?Ā why else would a timid guy like woojin return to judeĀ ?Ā heās a barely decent advisor whoās only capable of doing the bare minimum JUST so he can keep his own boat afloat. Heās good at his job, but not astounding. a lack ofĀ j u d g e m e n tĀ Ā in the way heās so trusting around him is ENOUGH. there is no malice in woojinās intentions as far as he can tell. Itās the younger oneās simplicity and sincerity, maybe even his RESERVEDNESS that draws jude to him and adds to the trust.
but thereās an impending sense of DOOM looming over him. heās expecting for woojin to become disappointed in him because of howĀ s m o o t h l yĀ Ā this is all going. just the natural course of how things usually go.Ā ā ā but you absolutely donāt have to accept the offer if you donāt want to ! ā he doesnāt want to impose. another warm sip of his drink to wash down the fear of an inherited skill ofĀ exploiting, before it snowballs into an anxious, nagging thought. ā If youāre more comfortable with your own camera, thatās fine too. ā and another sip. ā maybe you can show me how to find a good subject to photograph, some time ? ā
Ā Ā Ā though the two of them gotĀ Ā alongĀ toĀ sayĀ theĀ least ( which is to say, if they were
Ā Ā Ā į“ į“ɓɓ į“
ÉŖį“É¢Źį“į“s, their circles would beĀ completely ļ½ļ½ļ½
ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½
ļ½ ) , it was
Ā Ā Ā strange to think that their histories had little in common. from all the į“ Ź É“ į“ Ź į“ į“ Ź
Ā Ā Ā psychology thatĀ woojinĀ hasĀ studiedĀ ( maybe in a DESPERATE journey to under-
Ā Ā Ā stand himself ;; ) it felt like h i s t o r yĀ && GENETICS were the strongest factors in
Ā Ā Ā determining howĀ Ā messed upĀ Ā you turned out.Ā
Ā Ā Ā but they seemed to have little inĀ common:Ā judeĀ had siblings to compete with, to
Ā Ā Ā try to OUTSHINE whereas jude wished that he couldĀ just ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½
ļ½ļ½ so
Ā Ā Ā hisĀ guardiansĀ wouldĀ stopĀ Ā talkingĀ Ā aboutĀ Ā him,Ā Ā toĀ him.Ā forĀ everyĀ dinnerĀ that
   D$VOLV$D into a DEBATE for jude, it was another one eaten in relative
Ā Ā Ā s i l e n c eĀ . he barely remembered his auntĀ && uncle speaking to each other &&
Ā Ā Ā even less to himāespecially if itĀ wasn'tĀ aboutĀ Ā Źį“į“ŹÉŖį“į“É“į“
ɪɓɢ him or exhaustedly
Ā Ā Ā asking himĀ whenĀ he'dĀ Ā stopĀ ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½Ā themĀ soĀ much.Ā evenĀ their at-
Ā Ā Ā tempts to get h e l pĀ wereĀ differentāthough,Ā admittedly,Ā theyĀ seemedĀ to have
Ā Ā Ā been BOTCHED either way: judeĀ with TOO MUCH && woojin with too little. in either
Ā Ā Ā sense, it felt as if in theĀ Ā P A C H I N K OĀ ofĀ life,Ā no matter what pegs the two of
Ā Ā Ā them hit on the way down, all the categoriesĀ were the same.
Ā Ā Ā but maybe to say that they wereĀ Ā (Ā S T U C KĀ )Ā inĀ theĀ same slot wouldn't be very
Ā Ā Ā reflective of the way that woojin felt about hisĀ relationship with jude. they were no
Ā Ā Ā more stuck together as two birdsĀ makingĀ nestsĀ in the same tree or two foxes in
Ā Ā Ā the same dens.Ā it'sĀ whereĀ they'veĀ chosenĀ toĀ live,Ā making the best of the land-
Ā Ā Ā scape before them. it's whereĀ they'reĀ Ā h a p p yĀ &&Ā Ā (Ā safe ), && woojin would say
Ā Ā Ā that he's ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½
ļ½ļ½Ā hadĀ oneĀ orĀ theĀ otherĀ in his life. but meeting jude, being
Ā Ā Ā able to spend time with himāyeah.Ā maybeĀ heĀ wouldĀ say that this is the closest
Ā Ā Ā he's ever gotten to having ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½ .
Ā Ā ā oh. well, ā he says, but the conceptĀ ofĀ Ā b o r r o w i n gĀ isĀ familiar to him;; the li-
Ā Ā Ā brary one ofĀ few (Ā safe placesĀ )Ā he'sĀ carvedĀ outĀ for himself on this campus, with
Ā Ā Ā his job giving him some INSIGHT to the quietest && most secluded places to hide.
Ā Ā ā as long as you're sure, ā isĀ theĀ wordingĀ thatĀ heĀ decidesĀ toĀ settleĀ on ā aĀ little
   WISHYćW4SHY, but he likes it forĀ thatĀ exact reason: it gives jude an out
Ā Ā Ā if he needs it, it lets woojin feel like he's not being too DEMANDING. even so, he re-
Ā Ā Ā sists the urge to make aĀ Ā d o r k yĀ librarianĀ joke ( so when is the due date going
Ā Ā Ā to be? )
Ā Ā Ā no sooner had he settled on whatĀ toĀ say,Ā though,Ā it jude is also trying to BACK-
Ā Ā Ā PEDAL && instead of finding it awkwardĀ asĀ mostĀ othersĀ are apt to, woojin finds
Ā Ā Ā himselfāc o m f o r t e dĀ , in some ways.Ā comforted to know that someone could
Ā Ā Ā be just as unsure as him when it came to favors &&Ā asking for H$LPāwhen is
Ā Ā Ā too much && too little?Ā butĀ woojinĀ offersĀ aĀ Ā smallĀ smile, Ā mostlyĀ hopingĀ to ease
Ā Ā Ā jude's nerves without having to say TOO MUCH ( &&Ā picking the į“”Źį“ɓɢ words in
Ā Ā Ā the processāeven if he feels like there's no such thing with jude ) .
Ā Ā ā we can bring both? ā he offers asĀ whatĀ heĀ hopes to be a happy medium. ā i can
Ā Ā Ā bring myĀ dslr,Ā youĀ canĀ bringĀ yourĀ 35mmāwe could... make a thing of it? ā the
Ā Ā Ā words sound STRANGE coming out of his own mouthĀ Ā ( who was he? thinking he
Ā Ā Ā couldĀ makeĀ Ā PLANSĀ &&Ā then ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½Ā toĀ them? )Ā butāwhy not?Ā especially
Ā Ā Ā since he liked spending time with jude so much as it was;;
Ā Ā ā not that you have to either, ā he adds, feeling the same rise of į“É“xÉŖį“į“Ź as he does.
Ā Ā ā iāalso haven't takenĀ photosĀ forĀ aĀ Ā longĀ timeĀ Ā now. so i can't promise i'll be any
Ā Ā Ā goodā" he thinks to say āĀ at helping you, ā but the truth isā ā at all. ā
