one thing i keep thinking about recently is that i remember when ariana’s version of just a little bit of your heart came out there was some review of her album that talked about how it was one of harry’s first endeavors writing for other people and the song itself wasn’t remarkable or something to that effect because it made her look “weak” and basically said the song was bad because it painted her as a damsel in distress who’s just “a fool” for some guy, and just saying that you shouldn’t write that way, blah, blah.
and just….lmao seeing harry perform it. reducing that song to, when ariana sings it, “it’s making her look like a weak woman who can’t get away,” and seeing the emotion harry puts in it….like shit, that was personal experience. that wasn’t being like, “oh, let’s make her look like she’s not strong enough to let the guy go,” that’s…harry’s genuine thoughts about knowing he was never going to have all of the guy he had feelings for. and i just hope whoever wrote that review ended up seeing a video of harry performing it because i think that’s when you really get it, how much emotion there really is in that song.
