Emma stood in the Swimming Pool car park. It had been a whole term and summer holiday since she'd been back here. Her mum had thought it a good idea that she be sent to Australia for some work experience and health. Whilst she was there she had worked five jobs, studied, exercised and dieted as a part of her self reinvention. It was hard, and for the first few days, all she wanted was to go home. But after the first fortnight she was right at home and used to her new routine. Before she had left she had been 90kg with wide legs, stretch marks and pale sickly skin Now she had returned she was 75kg with toned tanned legs, a lightly brown face, dashed with freckles and a flat toned stomach. She couldn't wait to meet up with her crush, Theo, who was quite athletic himself and very fun to be with. Before she'd do her best to look inconspicuous whilst she waited near the swimming pool for him to head to the Market where his dad worked. Then she saw him. He was striding across the car park with his usual blue headphones and messy chlorine soaked hair rustling with the breeze. Emma quietly waited outside the market for him to come back from dropping off his swimming kit. He waltzed out of the gateway and stared. His Amber eyes glanced up and down Emma, from her glossy black, tight covered legs to her short messy, curled chocolate hair. "Emma?! Where? What Happened? When did you get back?!" He stuttered. Emma scoffed and retorted "Yes me. Australia. A lot of work and exercise. Monday." Theo quickly recovered and they started casually strolling up the lane to school. Emma, who used to struggle walking this lane and holding conversation in tandem (walking in general really!) was now, strolling effortlessly and throwing sarcastic remarks over her shoulder. Theo couldn't help but stare. She was definitely the same person but the better, almost perfect version. When they arrived at the school gates, almost everyone was staring at Emma. These were people who never used to acknowledge her existence, but now, now she was more than acknowledged, she was admired. During the long period of time that passed during the walk, Theo had been able to adjust to Emma's new self. After strolling through the corridors, Emma and Theo got to their lockers. Stood by the block of lockers were Joe and Lisa who were, not unlike Theo, astounded by Emma's new appearance. "Woah who, actually what, are you?" Said Joe who was quite pink in the cheeks. "Yeah what have you done with Emma?!!" Lisa said. Lisa couldn't help but feel jealous, she had been playing sports and exercising her whole life and never seen a difference in her body yet, Emma can waltz off to Australia for a while and then come back looking like a playboy bunny. Joe was just confused, he had always seen Emma as someone who didn't care about appearance or figure and she seemed to like who she was, but now it was different. Joe and Lisa used to find it difficult to read Emma, she kept her body and her mind obscured as some kind of safety blanket, now it was wide open. Emma had tossed aside the blanket and let her thoughts and feelings free, as well as a tightly tucked shirt and well fitted skirt that didn't hide her new body. Something had changed in her face and eyes as well, a new glow of confidence and control. She knew her limits and accepted them too.
