i figure i might as well say something about this, but the responses to batboy hitting delila have been very interesting. there seem to be a lot of people interested in rehabilitating batboy when the whole point of the scene was to depict a dead in the water relationship that both parties weren't interested in ending until it got really bad. i didn't write that scene for people to take sides and i made sure to present it as neutrally as possible because abuse and violence in relationships is wildly complicated. zuzuri is the one who witnessed it happening, but zuzuri is lovely to write for in the sense that his perspectives on tragedy and sadness are astronomically different than that of the other cast members due to what he is and what his significance is to the text which can make the scene very subjectively offputting.

like. if i had made batboy 100% in the wrong and delila some uwu baby who is completely incapable of defending herself, that's way more sexist and misogynistic than presenting her as an adult with autonomy who made a series of bad decisions that lead her to staying with someone she was completely incompatible with. but then again, i don't really expect any of you to have nuanced opinions about women, because the internet and society at large have normalized sexism to a degree that it can show up casually and unchallenged in media without it drawing any backlash
