Brave Yezidi Hero freed his girlfriend from ISIS captivity

They meet each other 2 years ago in Shingal at the most important Yezidi holiday “feast in honor of God”. On the pilgrimage, Ali (22) and Viyan (20) saw for the first time. “I knew from the beginning that Viyan is the right one,” says Ali. “I fell in love with her that day.”

When ISIS raided their villages last August, Ali had to work on a building site. At night, he is called, someone told him that ISIS attacked Shingal. Viyan and her family were kidnapped. “I wanted to fight. From the moment when I realized that they’ve abducted Viyan. I went to Sherfedîn (Yezidi Pilgrimage) because I knew that Heydar Shesho had established a Yezidi unit which I wanted to join. I wanted to free Viyan, at any price.” For months he is fighting in the mountains against ISIS, his thoughts always with Viyan, always in the hope to liberate her.
