MUST  HE  FEAR  WHAT  TIMES  YET  TO  COME  WILL  THINK  OF  HIS  TRANSGRESSIONS  REGARDING  THE  WILL  OF  THE  BROTHERHOOD  ?  REGARDLESS  WHETHER  OR  NOT  HE  MADE  ATONEMENT  FOR  EACH  OF  HIS  BETRAYALS  ?     ‘     you  will  fail  trying  to  suit  everybody.  even  among  people  you  consider  your  equals.  troublemakers  will  always  be  frowned  upon  and  vilified  but  in  the  end—  they  may  be  the  ones  who  will  change  the  world.     ’     with  some  luck  altaïr  will  be  able  to  grow  old  and  try  his  best  to  inherit  as  much  knowledge  and  experience  as  possible  to  his  children  and  grand  -  children.  torn  between  his  deep  respect  to  allah,  to  whom  a  part  of  himself  belongs  to,  and  his  own  yearning  to  return  to  earth  upon  dying,  he  can  not  worry  about  whether  or  not  history  books  will  remember  him,  whether  or  not  his  descendants  and  successors  will  have  something  good  to  tell  about  him.     ‘     i  am  evidently  no  friend  of  the  templar’s  ways,  but  i  am  well  aware  they  have  their  reasons  and  i  suspect  they  have  deep  faith  in  what  they  are  doing.  as  far  as  i  am  concerned,  it  will  be  fate  which  decides  whether  or  not  it  allows  any  of  us  to  follow  our  path.  in  some  cases  however,  punishment  follows  swiftly  anyway.     ’

WHETHER  IT’S  A  CURSE  OR  BLESSING—  HE  IS  THE  OFFSPRING  OF  AN  ENTIRE  LINE  OF  DECENT  DESTINED  TO  FOLLOW  THE  SAME  PATH  OF  THE  CREED.  his  family  has  never  been  known  to  wear  a  crown,  nor  for  prosperity.  they  do  not  reign,  but  pioneer.  centuries  in  which  the  brotherhood  has  been  taken  place  within  the  holy  land  and  prospered  regardless  of  the  crusades  creating  confusion  among  the  people  and  their  faith.     ‘     then  maybe  i  begin  to  understand  why  my  father  never  has  been  carrying  his  father’s  name  and  bequeathed  the  name  ibn  la'ahad  —  son  of  no  one  —  to  me  as  well.  i  would  not  want  my  children  to  carry  my  name  and  inherit  the  mistakes  i  have  done.  the  curse  which  would  come  with  my  name.     ’     though  altaïr  knows  his  children  will  be  born  into  an  order  as  much  as  he’s  been  there  since  he  saw  the  light  of  day.  no  matter  how  much  he  may  be  known  to  rebel,  has  been  thinking  about  leaving  the  order,  he  can  not  quite  claim  it  to  be  a curse  when  it  allows  him  to  travel  across  seas  and  continents.  to  take  a  step  away  and  improve  his  knowledge  of  the  world  every  now  and  then.  looking  at  a  man  who  pretends  to  a  throne,  whose  family  fought  wars  to  raise  a  claim,  he  suspects  their  worlds  could  not  be  any  more  different.  it  inspires  an  inquisitive  nature  of  altaïr  in  which  he  perks  up  with  raised  eyebrows  and  turns  his  body  towards  the  man  wearing  a  crown  of  red  gold  wrought  with  points  looking  like  flames.     ‘     what  kind  of  legacy  do  you  intend  to  inherit  to  your  daughter  ?     ’

THE  TRUTH  IS,  UNLESS  YOU  DO  NOT  REALIZE  THAT  CIRCUMSTANCES  CAN  NO  LONGER  BE  CHANGED,  THERE  IS  NO  MOVING  FORWARD.  years  of  submitting  to  the  creed  under  the  aegis  of  rashid  ad-din  sinan  has  taught  him  valuable  lessons  along  with  results  which  he  can  not  undo  nor  unravel.  even  though  he  knows  the  brotherhood  requires  guidance  to  prevail,  he  wonders  if  they  must  not  adjust  their  set  of  beliefs  to  avoid  an  immediate  deadlock.     ‘     i  know,     ’    altaïr  breathes,  voice  low  and  quiet  which  only  implies  how  sore  and  tired  he  truly  feels.  he  has  never  been  known  boisterous  when  all  he  learned  was  moving  with  the  shadows.  confidence,  however,  if  not  even  over-assessment,  used  to  be  something  he  goaded  himself  with.  now  it’s  restless  fingers  which  repeatedly  touch  the  blade  he  has  taken  off  from  his  forearm.  his  jaw  clenches  upon  realizing  whose  blood  he’s  looking  at.  immediately  he  can  recall  the  overwhelming  scent  of  burnt  flesh.  brothers  and  sisters  fighting  whether  or  not  they  must  stand  down  and  witness  how  their  own  mentor  burns.  beyond  shock  upon  his  death,  they  consider  it  a  disgrace  that  the  body  will  not  be  returned  to  earth.  what  else  was  altaïr  supposed  to  do  ?  he  has  been  called  the  crazy  one,  but  saw  madness  in  his  mentor’s  eyes.     ‘     something  tells  me  i  am  going  to  dedicate  my  life  to  the  brotherhood  but  i  will  never  quite  witness  the  fruits  of  my  endeavors  to  change  it  for  the  better.     ’    to  move  forward,  he  will  take  a  look  at  what  his  ancestors  once  intended  upon  establishing  the  brotherhood.  if  anything,  he  knows  that  his  mentor  steered  them  far  away  from  their  origins  which  is  something  altaïr  intends  to  improve.     ‘     how  do  i  know  whether  or  not  i  am  becoming  a  puppet  to  the  artifact  ?     ’

WHICH  REPRESENTS  THEIR  MOST  PROBABLE  FATE  MUCH  LIKE  A  THREAD  SPUN,  MEASURED  AND  CUT.  but  altaïr  has  always  been  refusing  to  resign  himself  to  expectations  placed  upon  him.  branding  himself  as  one  who  rebels  and  who  keeps  disturbing  the  peace  where  others  see  no  reason  for  change.  one  who  sees  things  differently,  who  isn’t  fond  of  rules  and  who  does  not  pay  as  much  respect  either  to  authorities  nor  to  religious  faith  as  others  desire  him  to.  does  he  want  to  die  for  the  creed  after  everything  he  sacrificed  already  ?     ‘     what’s  truly  worth  knowing  is,  whether  or  not  that’s  something  you  want.  do  you  want  to  die  with  your  sword  in  hand,  fighting  a  war  which  is  probably  not  even  yours  ?  or  would  you  rather  grow  old  and  be  buried  with  a  sword  which  has  not  seen  any  blood  for  decades.     ’     it  might  surprise  many  to  learn  how  much  altaïr  yearns  for  quiet  days  in  which  he  can  walk  away  from  responsibilities  and  busy  himself  with  hundreds  of  books  he  desires  to  catch  up  with.  he  does  not  rue  the  day  in  which  he  attached  the  hidden  blade  onto  his  forearm,  knows  he  does  not  mind  to  imagine  dying  with  the  blade  still  attached,  but  he  has  no  desire  to  walk  and  die  in  the  shadows.  he  favors  knowledge  over  death  and  wants  to  have  enough  time  in  which  he  can  write  down  his  own  lessons.  lessons  he  made  from  his  own  mistakes  as  well  as  his  realizations  walking  forward.  for  now,  however,  he  allows  the  scar  on  the  corner  of  his  mouth  to  stretch  along  with  the  curl  of  his  lips.  he  imagines  gold  hair  losing  their  brightness,  becoming  more  bland  and  dusty  until  they  turn  into  grey.  some  of  which  he  can  already  witness  every  time  they  see  each  other  again  after  month  of  separation.  he  reaches  out  to  take  a  hold  of  jaime’s  sword  hand,  running  his  fingers  across  his  knuckles.     ‘     i  want  to  grow  old  before  i  fall  asleep  and  never  wake  up.  i  want  to  be  given  the  time  and  peace  to  read  books  and  to  write  down  my  own.  above  all,  i  want  to  see  my  children  grow  and  have  their  own  families.  i  do  not  want  to  be  alone,  however.     ’

ALL  THAT  IS  REMEMBERED  OF  THE  PAST  AS  PRESERVED  IN  WRITING.  he  cares  not  about  being  perpetual  after  death,  (  does  not  feel  driven  to  become  a  legend,  )  but  they  know  he  made  an  oath  which  runs  deeper  than  his  blood.     ‘     we  both  know  i  will  die  carrying  the  blade  and  my  sash.  i  wish  i  would  possess  the  humility  to  say  when  i  have  seen  enough  for  one  life,  but—  i  want  to  die  the  way  i  have  lived.  what  would  you  wish  for  ?     ’
