John’s eyes may have been focused on the screen in front of him but his mind was a million miles away. Anytime they reentered space, it put the soldier on edge. — Nyota’s gentle touch jolted him out of his convoluted thoughts and his muscles instantaneously relaxed beneath her hand.
“Nothing you have to worry about. Space makes me uneasy.”
She chose not to speak after that, her hand drifted passed his elbow to to find a home against his wrist. His abhorrence for space always puzzled her. Why had he chosen a career in space exploration if it made him feel this uneasy? Unsafe. Regardless, the lieutenant stepped closer to him, her svelte frame finding it's place against his as she allowed herself the moment to indulge in the silence between them. Nyota had always put herself and her career before anything else. And yet as she stood there, her hands slowly fanning out to pull the chief medical officer in closer to her, she couldn't help but find herself starting to put him before other things. Caring for another person, putting their needs before her own, it was still foreign to her.
"Come sit with me. We have no obligations until the start of alpha. Mission reports can wait."
