a fresh danish from the little old lady at the farmer’s market made getting up early on saturday mornings worth it. today, she had given reed an extra pastry on the house - cherry-almond flavored - confirming the crush that he thought the danish-lady had on him. unfortunately for reed, he had a nut allergy, and although the treat smelled heavenly, it wasn’t worth the risk of going into anaphylaxis. “hey!” he called out to the first person he saw far enough away from the danish stand so his old lady friend wouldn’t be offended. “want this?” he gestured to the brown bag with the pastry in it, “while it hurts to give it up, i’m willing to part with it for the sake of your happiness.”

     Cian couldn’t figure out which was worse in his mind. A permanent label of destruction on his father’s business or the fact that the family name was tarnished. Of course, everyone knew this business was the true pride and joy in the O’Riley household. It was Killarney’s way to escape the disappointment he held in regards to his family. But to Cian it was just a cruel reminder of how much his father didn’t care for him and what a sick joke to be now in charge of the business. He’d let the place rot if it wasn’t for the regulars who Cian had grown used to having around. 

     Instead of figuring out what to do next as he should be doing, the idea of drinking away into a decently sized stupor sounded much more entertaining. He was bitter, angry, and looking for a way to not be reminded of anything. His steps were out of line as he walked back to his truck, keys jingling his hand before they fell to the ground. Before he could pick them up, someone else already did. “Hey! What the fuck you doing?”

des went for their tray full of drinks and came around the table and handed one out, swallowing hard as she passed the drink over to the person. fewer and fewer people were talking about anything else but the runes. des didn't know what it meant for them, but they were determined not to let it get in the way of anything. what could they do about a bunch of paint?

IT’S BEEN TWO DAYS SINCE THE RUNE ARRIVED ON HER DOOR. the first day had been spent trying to cover the damn thing up, after the paint  ( or blood )  dried off and the branding is revealed. when it proves too hard of a task to complete, the second day is spent researching how much a new door is  ( more than you’d think ) .   on the third day, it’s a quiet morning at the store when she sees a figure through the window walk towards the door and eventually stop, hanging around without going inside. it’s only when she hears what sounds like gas escaping does she think to get up and see for herself. by the time she gets the door open, the hooligan had scampered away—and the door has been decorated once more, with a spraypainted outline of the rune along with two lines attached diagonally to the bottom of it. really, it looked like the rune was just a stick figure, which she assumed was the point.

Anthony had stuck to beer. At least, he promised himself he would when he entered a local bar and took a seat. Quickly pouring through the small menu, he had settled on some new, trendy IPA beer that he had heard a lot about. He’d learn what the hype was about, at the very least.

So, he took a sip, and he immediately let some slip past his lips – some back into the bottle, and some dripping down his chin and onto his shirt.

josie  had  lived  a  MILLION  lives  since  she  left  home  but  if  there  was  one  constant  that  clung  to  her  like peanut  butter  to  the  roof  of  her  mouth,  it  was  slowness.  in  a  city  so  brimming  with  life,  a  moment  of  lethargy  was  hard  to  come  across  ━  josie  learned  to  savor  those  moments,  few  and  far  between  as  they  were.  it  had  been  an  UNCHARACTERISTICALLY  slow  evening  for  the  red  eye  &  josie  took  great  solace  in  being  able  to  ready  herself  for  the  impending  evening  traffic.  swabbing  down  her  work  station,  the  towel  once  palmed  in  her  hand  is  since  hung  over  her  shoulder.  on  the  balls  of  her  feet,  the  blonde  rummaged  through  varying  clear  &  brown-hazed  bottles  from  an  overhead  shelf.  bottle  in  hand,  sights  trail  closely  behind  the  gait  that  leads  her  newest  patron  over  to  the  bar.  a  cheeky  look  plastered  itself  on  her  visage,  as  she  lurched  toward  them.  ❝  hey,  what  can  i  get  started  for  you,  DARLIN’  ?  i’ve  got  a  new  cocktail  i’ve  been  itching  to  try  out  if  you’re  game.  ❞

          aiyana give a small smile towards the barista as they handed her back her change. the only thing she had been craving was the toasted almond latte from this particular coffee shop for some reason. she put back in her air-pods, only to immediately take them out when she heard the familiar static like voices. unsure if it had to do with her … banshee senses or if someone had actually said something. “ - did you say something?” saying out loud to the person next to her, eyes flickering around quizzically. 

Dahlia knew she was late to her shift, but she hadn’t planned on a sketchy babysitter that didn’t show up. She hadn’t planned on showing up tot he diner with both kids in tow. At least they had something to keep themselves occupied with crayons and coloring books. She would likely give them her phone before the shift was over, to keep them out of trouble. While she was clocking in, she came out to notice the kids had somehow cornered some poor soul in a booth. “We will give you this one in a lifetime drawing for five dollars.” The smaller of the two kids pipes up excitedly, “It has stars and and glitter!” Dahlia did her best to usher them away with an apologetic smile. “Sorry about them. Kids go sit in your booth, your pancakes will be out in a few minutes.”  She gave them a pointed look as they did a retreat back to their booth. Her head shook as she took out her notepad to get the person’s order. “Didn’t realize I was raising little art representatives.”

Nishith had a routine he followed at the night of the full moon. It was practically robotic up until when he felt the impulsive beast rake up his spine. It was unfortunate that the full moon was on the worst day it could possibly be. Monday. It wasn’t just a bad case of the Mondays either, with each new body that ended up on the metal table. The clock ticked prominently above the door, while he tried to calculate the day light left. 

He slid the body he was working on into the freezer, and made his jog out of the medical examiner building. Nishith had to get to freedom before the transformation began. It was his unlucky day when the night cloaked over the park he had ran through. His knees buckled, and his paranoia was heightened in the moment. The movement caught his attention while he raked a hand through his hair.

“Trust me. You don’t want to be here.” The words barely crept from his lips with strong heaves of air awaiting the pain.  His joints started to contort under the sanctuary of the moonlight, and his first scream would soon follow. This was just the beginning.

        Black painted finger nails wrapped around the drink in front of her. She could never perfect the way that the city made drinks. All she drank back home was Cambodian beer… which never satiated her alcoholic needs; but she settled for it. Putting the extra dry martini to her lips, eyes looking around the bar she hadn’t stepped foot in years, realizing she felt so out of place.

       It was like a pit that was stuck in her stomach, a constant feeling of nausea. Everything she had left behind, her son.. her then husband && the pack that allowed her to finally feel like she had sense of belonging. It was just a lot, the urge to flee again was still somewhat present. 

      Feeling someone approach her, she continued to face away. “No, I don’t need a refill and no I don’t really want to make small talk.” Head then slightly turning toward the other.
