winter paused mid-pat-down and regarded lucille, whose sheet-toga made her look both utterly vulnerable and insufferably relaxed. she wondered if she looked the same with her hair frizzed, eyeliner stamped under her eye like a bad tattoo. she wanted desperately to demand the phone's whereabouts and walk out in one smooth flex, but their offer stalled her train of thought. "you have a milk frother?" she asked, narrowing her eyes suspiciously.

there's a twinkle in her dark hues that suggests she knows she's won. brims spreading as the corners of her mouth curl into a grin. she stands unceremoniously, the sheet billowing downward to find it's way back onto the mattress. "hot or iced?" mused in passing while swiftly making her way to her bedroom door before they decide to change their mind and turn back to searching for a not so lost phone. digits turn the knob, head twists to look over her shoulder, "do you like cinnamon rolls? i made some yesterday morning."

The moment the sentence left his mouth, he knew it wasn't helping. "I mean, we talked about it, but..." He rubbed the back of his neck, searching for the right words and finding none. "You never said that's what this was. I thought we were still figuring things out."

"I guess I was expecting something different." The words scrape from her throat as she fights a grimace that threatens to overcome her mirror. "When we were figuring things out my first thought wasn't to play tonsil hockey with someone other than you but I guess that just shows how different our priorities are." There's a defeated way in which she shrugs her shoulders. "I guess you've gone ahead and figured things out for us, then."

she'd been determinedly staring at a spot on the wall until she heard 'i got you something' - suddenly turning round to meet his eyes. "so you're solution to solving not wanting me to go to your games... is buying me off?" the words said with the sweetest smile she could muster, despite the dangerous glint in her eyes.

when finally graced with her attention, a part of him feels a shred of relief but he knows the war is not over. from the back pocket of his jeans he conjures a velvet pendant box s doesn't open it, just showcasing to her view. "if you don't want it i could always just throw it out." head slants in a questioning manner.

"you don't have to listen to my opinion, but i thought you should hear it." because she deserved somebody better. lucas liked to think he was a good judge of character, and there was something.. off about the other, even if he couldn't fully put his finger on it. "they didn't even say how pretty you look tonight, in fact, i don't think i heard them say a word that wasn't about themselves."

"oh i'm hearing it." it wasn't like she was oblivious to the way her current boyfriend treated her only offering attention when it's convenient for him. behaviors that were permitted because the small affections he would offer were enough to ward off loneliness. "i'm hearing that you think i look pretty." glides dangerously close to him on the sofa. "did i hear that part correctly?"

"i know it looked bad." taking a step towards her, before thinking better of it and taking a step back once more. "but i promise it was nothing. we were rehearsing for our scene tomorrow. it's her first on screen kiss, and some people find it strange to have their first staged kiss filmed."

the retreat co-signs every bad thought and assumption that she's brewing in that moment. "looked bad?" echoed him in disbelief, "i'm pretty sure you could have given her a tonsillectomy with how deep in there you were." arms shift to cross over her chest in a defensive stance. "so in this hypothetical situation where you were just helping her out why didn't you just tell me?"

pain fills doe-eyes as lonan's words register in milo's head. just moments ago, he was in bliss - - but now? "what…what about after you have dinner?" he proposes, sounding desperate. watches as the other gets dressed and he sits up in bed, feeling defeated - - feeling heartbroken. milo kept hoping he'd one day be enough, that lonan would stay. "when will that be?" words are soft as milo fiddles with the comforter that pools in his lap.

finally orbs lift to entangle with his and regrets it almost instantly. as much as lonan wore the facade of someone who was indifferent and callous, he cared deep down far more than he would like to admit, actually. there's that unfamiliar, sharp sensation beneath his breast that he would very much rather ignore as his thumbs fumble to secure the last button. "well, they'll likely want to talk for a while. it'll probably be late by the time i get home." words left unsaid too late for any distractions. "i can come over the following night." a lame offer that shouldn't be enough.

"of course i'm leaving," winter answered flatly, jamming her arms into the sleeve of a hoodie, then yanking the zipper up to her chin. the material definitely clashed with last night's sequined skirt, but it was better than nothing. "i have a brunch. i have emails. also, i don't have a shirt," she explained, raking a hand through her hair and bending to check for her phone, already feeling the irrational panic of being off-grid. "where did you put my phone?"

"um," uttered as her hands search around the duvet and sheets strewn haphazardly across the mattress pinky and ring finger brush against the device located under the other's pillow but she says and shows nothing to reveal that she had found it, "y'know i'm not sure." shrugs her shoulders as if she's done all that she can do. then, "you sure you don't want to at least stay for some coffee? i make a mean latte. i've got a fancy espresso machine it's even got a milk frother on it!"
