The first Clipper had the misfortune of being released shortly before Packard abandoned civilian manufacturing to focus on wartime production during World War 2.  What should have been a successful first few years of a new model, was cut short.  When the Clipper returned, it had a new style that was not as well regarded as the original.  It was believed that the Clipper damaged Packard’s reputation as a luxury car company, so in 1956, one year after Packard was bought by Studebaker, Clipper became its own brand.  But just one year later, Studebaker turned all Packards including the Clipper into rebadged Studebakers, effectively ending the Clipper brand.  A year after that, all Packard production ended forever.
