Solo RPG's are in their heyday! So, here's an intro to them.

Solo RPG's even had a category in the ENNIE's this year, it's never been a better time to get into them! To help, Sam Robson (@dungeonofthedragon) has written an introduction to this kind of game, for KiwiRPG Week 2026 - a week where we celebrate Aotearoa New Zealand's games and game designers.

Catch Sam and Sero create a solo RPG live on stream with the audience's help on the KiwiRPG Twitch channel on Tuesday 7th July, 1pm-4pm NZST / Tuesday 2am BST / Monday 9PM EDT. That same RPG will be played on stream later that day!

Use a deck of playing cards to travel the land and heal dangerous revenants while avoiding becoming one yourself. Each time your deck is depleted, take a rest and write to the mysterious Umbral about the day's events. Is it becoming more human the more you write to it?

This game is a different kind of power fantasy: one where we can save the world with kindness and understanding. Take on the roles of witches leaving their village for the first time to help people, spirits and places in ways big and small.

Much like these witches, Seasons of Magic has a long way to go! For now the core rules are available as a free playtest at the link below. I hope you enjoy making some witches and having adventures!

a game about relationships, joy, and overcoming birthday struggles!

'you are a kākāpō and it is your birthday' is a solo-journaling game about being the world's only flightless parrot, and knowing that anyone else would mess up your birthday party, so you have to throw it yourself!

You'll create your kākāpō character, lay out your forest relationships, and use those relationships to overcome problems that crop up in throwing the best party ever.
