I do think it’s likely that (alleged) Thjazi-Shadow will not speak and will communicate solely in funny hand gestures, shadow puppets, and making jerk-off gestures behind Julien’s back when he’s being insufferable, because I have never seen a sentient shadow in any media SPEAK. It’s part of the appeal of them that they are silently expressive.

However this does not prevent me from thinking it would be hilarious if Thjazi can ONLY speak to Julien. Imagine being the funniest man in Araman and your sole audience is a man who hates you. This is also a curse for Thjazi.

I am posting this now to check back when it is revealed what is up with Julian’s shadow to see if I’ve caught a bear in my bear trap.

I think Julian’s shadow is Thjazi and that is where he hid his soul.

1. It’s been following Julian since the funeral in the form of a curse, which Thjazi could had had set up ahead of time.

2. It started out as antagonistic, reacting to Julian the way he has always reacted to Thjazi.

3. Episode 30 gives the shadow some agency beyond violence or being creepy. It holds Julian in place, can interact with paper (can’t wait to see what shocked it), can hold Julian up, and show him visions.

4. The vision it showed Julian was of Teor, one of Thjazi’s compatriots from the Falconer’s Rebellion. The shadow wanted Julian to go help him. Why would it want that if it didn’t have a direct connection to Teor?

There, bear trap set. Now I wait for whatever the reveal is. Impatiently.
